i don’t think these metaverse people realize that you can not artificially manufacture a virtual singer sensation like hatsune miku. she wasn’t even supposed to be a pop star, she was marketed to musicians because that’s exactly what she is. an instrument. she only became a virtual star because of the incredible music vocaloid producers created with her. there’s also the factor of hatsune miku having a great design and a voicebank that’s nuetral enough that it can be used for any genre.

The reason Vocaloid is so popular is that all the music used in it is community made and events are entirely community driven.
Every song used is done by some random joe who wanted to make their own songs and Vocaloid was that avenue that gave them, figuratively and literally, a voice to share these songs under. And these songwriters grow as more people get a hand in the software which is pretty easy to get. All this and the fact you can find these songs cropping up day after day on Niconico then other video streaming services like RUclips during it's golden years, Vocaloid's rise to prominence is the sort that only happens once in a million years.
Polar goes entirely against this philosophy, almost mockingly so and it's failure to reach any sort of popularity outside of ridicule is exactly the treatment she deserves.

Ryo, wowaka, Deco*27, mothy and the dozen of other big names in the Vocaloid community are random people the same way Brittney Spears is a random person.

Miku was never marketed as a "virtual diva". She, like Sweet Ann, KAITO, MEIKO, and the first few voicebanks that came before her, was made to become a musical instrument - a digital piano that instead of outputting notes it gives out human vocals instead. Only did she become a character because of the mascot Crypton gave her as part of their "Character Vocal" series.
You know people, anything related to anime and they'll eat it up. _That's_ precisely what happened to Miku and the singers that came after her. Miku's mascot became a prominent figure to her name that people turned her into what she is now: a virtual diva. The funny thing is that KAITO and MEIKO's Vocaloid 1 boxart weren't supposed to be them at all, but because of Miku's uprising, their boxart mascot became their identity. But everything happened because of the community. Literally the only thing that wasn't from the community were the Project DIVA/Mirai games because those were from SEGA (which subsequentially helped shaped Miku's identity even overseas).
Polar is none of that. Her creators think she can just make an appearance in public one day and expect everyone to accept her the same way they did to Miku... boi are they wrong. It's not as easy as it looks.

@@DrizzingSakuras Yup, Miku was really the first japanese Vocaloid to be seen as a "character vocal". Before the Miku boom, Vocaloid was just a music program meant for song demos. Asami Shimoda said in an interview that this is how Crypton explained the program to her, aka a vocal synthesiser for producers to make demos aimed at real singers before the recording sessions. Post Miku boom, and thanks to the fandom connecting the boxart illustrations to characters, they are in this weird limbo between character vocal and singer avatar, but are officially recognised as characters.

The thing that gets me is the advertising of Polar of her being the first virtual idol. There is nothing wrong with creating another virtual idol/pop star but the fact like they act like this is brand new and the content is bland and out of touch each virtual singer, band or group like Vocaloid or KDA have something that makes them stand out. In particular Vocaloid is accessible to anyone and everyone around the world could shape and mold the characters to whatever fits the theme of the song while Polar and by extension FN Meka tend to use trends and pop culture references to get famous it is only for a short period and not for the long run. I hope this comment makes sense

Rather than start from the bottom like all creators, Soul Publishing wants to skip to the top without any of the work and expecting Polar to be a hit like Hatsune Miku, Gorillaz, or any vtubing company like Hololive or Nijisanji. It's entirely possible for a "virtual influencer" or "popstar" to work... but that requries a person behind them that has grass roots knowledge, not a content mill company.
Vtubers, KDA, Vocaloids, Gorillaz, etc. all work as virtual popstars, singers, etc... and the commonality is that they aren't just ran by a content mill company that does clickbait and basically abuses the YT algorithm to push hacks, crafts, etc. that at best mildly okay but not a hack to outright dangerous at worst.

I can't get past the fact that she was made by a bunch of middle aged suits at some media company looking for the next market they can tap into. There's no passion in it at all and she will be dropped as soon as she fails to make the zero-effort quick cash payout they're after. The people involved either work for the company itself or are contracted out through Fiverr for only a few dollars per video while the 1% continues to suffocate free expression online for the kind of little fish that made online video sharing sites so great in the first place.
Media companies control a disturbing amount of video based content online. They're the reason children from birth are parked in front of a screen watching Spider-Man and Elsa videos. With that tint over everything these companies make, I see no reason to be forgiving whatsoever. They can all burn.
