      That is the sign of a true musician who lives for his or her craft. The whole band is like this. A true musician is not wrapped up in his ego, because he doesn’t need to prove anything. The majority no-talent pretty faces have to due to their lack of talent. And of course this industry is so full of posers who couldn’t produce a single note without ten different effects or producers that makes these guys stand out even more. I am 60 years old and am a product of the 60’s-70’s musically. But I truly appreciate their musicianship and the fresh sound, especially given the music vacuum that exist here is US.

    Way back in 1978 I bought Judas Priest's Sad Wings of Destiny album. It was completely different from the music my dad listened to, and since then I went full on hard rock/heavy metal. I drifted away from it as I grew older until I stumbled upon Jinjer. They brought me back to this genre in a spectacular way. Their musicianship was (and is) extraordinary and it was like coming home after being gone for a long time. On top of their excellence in their craft I loved how Eugene and Tatiana presented themselves, they seem to be such down to earth, wonderful people. I wish Vlad and Roman were more comfortable with their English, I would really like to hear what they have to say as well. Thanks for this, and thank you Eugene! We love you all and I'm excited for the new release in a way I haven't been anticipating an album drop in a LONG time!

    • @eqgilethan

      Absolutely agree with every point! Concerning Vlad and Roman, I've seen videos of them talking about their equipment and while they may not be quite as fluent as Tatiana or Eugene, their English is fine. Hopefully we'll get more interviews with all four of them in the future, to make Vlad and Roman more comfortable and get a few questions directed at them.

    Great first question! That reminds me of a gig I did many years ago with a great local swing jazz band - it was a swing dance in the Masonic Temple in Detroit, and we were cranking out the ol' standard Sing Sing Sing - well, we were grooving pretty hard, the crowd was really into it and had formed a dance circle, and we started improvising riffs during the "Kupra" drum solo to extend the dance - and going into the coda, the circle collapsed and the whole crowd was jumping and yelling and like a magnet just was sucked toward the stage - wowzers! What a fantastic experience.

    Man, opening with that first question was great, and it really resonated with me. That feeling of the connection to the audience is one of the best things as a musician. Some of the best gigs I've played is when it feels like everyone is on the same team. The audience are there to have a good time, and to take in your music, and we are there to provide that soundtrack, perform with our friends, and just make it more like a party than a gig.

    What a great interview. It was so nice to see two people that love music connect the way you did. Eugene and the whole band are really so humble for being so other-worldly skilled at what they do. Like yourself, this wasn't the kind of music I would have naturally gravitated to... but from the first listen, it was undeniable to me that there was something profoundly special about what these 4 people accomplish together. Thanks for expressing the gratitude so many of us have for what they do.

    Love the comment about Yes - that really hit it on the head for me; I'm an old "classical" rock guy from back in the day, and listened to all those artists and saw them all live. And so now my list of music goes something like: Yes, Genesis, ELP, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Return to Forever,Jinjer. Some how they just fit right in there....!!!! Two of my most favorite albums of all time, are Close to the Edge by Yes, and Micro by Jinjer. It's like somehow they are connected. (wow - hope all this made sense to someone...!) Great interview!!

    • @EvilBonsai
      @EvilBonsai 4 года назад +1

      Seeing your list, I would wonder what you would think of an album as Rage For Order by Queensryche. They were the first "progressive" metal band I started with, then later Fates Warning (and now, of course, Jinjer.) Sure, younger I was absolute enamored with Debbie Harry/Blondie, Pat Benatar, and John Williams Star Wars OST. To this day still love women singers, soundtracks, and progressive metal.

    • @skullduggery1616
      @skullduggery1616 4 года назад +2

      @@EvilBonsai Yea! For sure! I had Queensryche Empire (used to jog to it in my walkman), used to practice my drums to Blondie album (saw them live in Dallas - killer drummer), and had all three (original) Star Wars soundtrack albums on vinyl and cassette (for the car). No shit. I saw Gentle Giant 3 times, Yes 7 times, ELP (only once!), Pink Floyd (only once), Queen 5 times, The Who (with Kieth Moon!) and Jinjer once in Dallas! Peace brotha!

    I was at the second show in Munich and it worked out so well, it was almost like in the living room, It felt empty, but on the other hand I thought you adressed me personally! I hope you didn`t feel disconnected there. To us in the audience it was a surreal, almost unreal situation. Not being allowed to stand up, every table only halffilled and a mass beer (1l!)in a glass in front of me! When were you ever allowed to have beer in glasses at a concert?! Kind of a mixture between Oktoberfest, concert and - well seeing all people in black - happy funeral (!?). Weird! I`ll never forget! Thanx!

    Great conversation... it was worth the wait! Eugene was delightfully enthusiastic and vulnerable and I'm especially touched how he admitted to leaving behind a negative alcohol-fueled lifestyle to move forward with a positive inner journey.
    Funny how we also learned more about David in this piece... Yes' "Heart of the Sunrise" does indeed define the Progressive Rock genre in my mind along with "Close to the Edge" which is to me the most enduring album of that era / genre. I keep forgetting you are 10 years younger than me, so it shocks me to hear the "Brain Salad Surgery" was your first exposure to EL&P... having started off myself with "Tarkus", followed by "Pictures at an Exhibition" and of course "Trilogy" which I had on 8-track tape. Jinjer definitely brings back the energy of those bands (both of whom I got to see live in 1977) raised exponentially.

  • @hal1971

    Great interview! In an interview, Tatiana was sceptical of the "pisces" viral thing, She tought that if you are not a metal fan in the begining, you cannot really get into Jinjer. But, i've seen a bunch of reactor really got into Jinjer and become fans. She should watch the second, the third, the fourth reaction to there song by reactor. They all say the same thing, that Jinjer is unbelievable.

    Jinjer is Legend. And I absolutely love the Bass playing of Eugene. In the past I played Bass too and singing in a lot of Bands from Punk to Death Metal. But my bass playing was never even close to being of such a quality level as what Eugene does. Truly love it. Although I don't listen to much extreme metal anymore, but jinjers are always ... an inspiration.
    You should listen to something different, some smaller Band's may be, lots of great stuff there.
    Listen to the Crimson ghosts - don't follow or nearly free or the Other - We're all dead or a party at Crystal lake or Dreaming of the Devil or to the Bloodsucking Zombies from outer space very cool Band with Vienna calling or Radio active.... and so on.

    Excellent interview good job David. I’ve literally seen hundreds of interviews with Eugene and still haven’t heard anyone ask him the question that I’m curious on what his answer would be. From YES to RUSH to Foo Fighters to Band-Maid to Jinjer... for me, it's all about the foundation of progressive rock. Of course, the Beatles had it. There's many other bands that have it, even The Warning have it... but it's about combining genres to create a sonic journey with cleaver, intelligent writing with a hard hitting groove and from the heart that creates freedom in my soul. And I think Dave and Eugene covered that in their excellent meeting-of-the-minds interview. Thanks, guys! Now for Tati, huh, Dave? I just love what she has to say about anything.

    What a great conversation between two musicians. Thank you for sharing.
    I like you was not previously into metal music prior to hearing Jinjer. For the last few months of seeing plenty of reaction videos of yours and others and watching their videos last night I just bought two of their albums on band camp because I feel like I've been listening for free for so long and I've always felt artists should be compensated for their work. It was hard not to buy all at once...i really like getting into one album at a time. Sorry for the ramble but I just wanted to share that I appreciate what you do and that if it was not for you and a few other reaction videos I've been watching lately I'm not sure I would have discovered Jinjer (another recent favorite is Billie Eilish)

    Hey, emotional metal song suggestion. Band: The Ghost Inside. Song: Aftermath. Highly recommend this one and would love your reaction/comments. Please blind react to the video and song, but feel free to do some light research on the tragedy they experienced to further understand the context and depth of the song. You won’t regret this, I promise.

      They were back in the day when Jinjer was finding its way to the greatness. Actually I suspect Tati was the reason for getting Eugene in the band.
