The mafia is like the military. Men, mainly young men follow orders of old men. You keep your mouth shut, you do your job and you are an asset to the team. The mafia often is represented as just criminals however it is more than that. The mafia is a masculine outlet for young men where they can exercise and showcase their masculine tendencies as well as their darkside. It gives young men and all men a sense of belonging as well as a mission. Military veterans often miss the military and or combat due to their lifestyle while the clear objectives, missions and orders. Many men in life live quite the lives of desperation aimlessly. It is simple psychology why men are drawn towards the mafia. It is a highly masculine organization regardless of societal norms and standards.

Maybe the tipping thing is an Italian thing because my dad and grandpa always tipped and taught us to tip well. My grandpa used to say, "You like to get paid good, don't you?" So, I tip well, and I tip almost everybody. I'm not a bigshot, and I'm not a wiseguy by any means, nor do I want to be a wiseguy. I was just taught that way from old school Italians to be generous to people who serve you. They remember you and treat you better from then on. We go places now, and servers who have known me are always extra nice to me and my wife. She doesn't even know that I have made relationships with these people no matter who they are when she isn't with me. It's just a good way to be. Plus, I used to work the bar scene in the city when I was younger, and we all hooked each other up in the places we worked whether it was free drinks or skipping the lines at the door or whatever. When my wife and I first started dating, we would go out on the town, and I wouldn't spend a dime. I didn't have any money anyway haha. She thought I knew everybody and was famous or a bigshot or something. Nope. I just knew all the bartenders, bouncers, door men, and hostesses at all the bars downtown, and we looked out for each other. Those were good days.

"...hurt people when they had to be hurt..."
The more of these Wise Guy videos I watch, the less I am able to comprehend how they can function day to day with such odious consequences always hanging over their head. I get that there is a code of honor about not hurting civilians and families. But, to my limited insight, it seems one could run afoul of some bad people even if you yourself did not step out of line.
Anyway, thanks for this video. It is a fascinating view of a closed world.
