- It's the Half-Life Beta remade into a mod.
Absolute Zero is a mod that aims to recreate the beta version of half-life when it was still in development. A lot of the game has been changed in the mod. It might not be the most accurate thing but its cool either way. As of right now, it's only in beta, but will be released in October of 2020. The beta only has part of the game available to play.

You can literally feel the DNA of Quake 2 in that one.
It was more Quake 2 than this. iirc, at one point there were no friendly NPCs, like in Quake.
Especially the blood effects and dust/particle effects.
Guess that's why they called it Quiver.
goldsrc sprouted from quakeworld, not quake 2

9:31 i love how gordon is doing tricks with the shotgun shells while climbing a ladder
you love it with all your heart?

The bigger question is how is he climbing a ladder while twiddling around with the shotgun shell
he's holding the shotgun in one hand, a shell in the other, and he's going up the ladder with only his legs
@@memedude8303fully possible believe it or not

To add context to the German censorship option at 0:46, the soldiers were turned into robot's and if you shot a friendly enough times, they don't die. They just sit down and shake their head at you every time you interact with them.

Fun fact: The corridor at the beginning of Absolute Zero is present in c0a0d in the retail version of Half-Life, but the player cannot access the corridor until c0a0e, where it appears completely different.

LamWarp there was keycard functionality, you would’ve gotten from a guard’s corpse

10:47 they shoot while walking!
Impossible!
Just like the human grunts in black mesa
@Rixo
It’d be a huge pain on harder difficulties considering the HECUs hit scan you.
@Shiixo No. The HECU grunts being unable to shoot while moving is their main weakness. If they could, the game would be so much harder.

So simple words, the game is still there and had a same goal, just a slight direction in structure.

He sabotaged the whole thing, he was the cause of this entire game. Besides, why would anyone want to play "gordon freeman goes to work to do a science experiment"?
The "TTS system" I would think is just an earlier version of Vox. IIRC Vox isn't really a TTS synth, but a library of prerecorded words from a synthesizer that the game can string together to say things, so long as the words it wants to say are in the library.
A bit late but you can use /speak text and use the vox to generate phrases steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=595080353
Isn't that what text to speech is? Like Siri, Google translate, or those talking donations that livestreamers have?
@@Ryan-op7yd They are both "text-to-speech" but different manners;
Old ones like Vox have just a library of words and they make up sentences from it.
Newer text-to-speech have the IA to know what sounds to make in order of speaking, thus giving a whole new possible outcomes and different accents/tones.
@@Ryan-op7yd Old Text-To-Speech, which is VOX in this case, just selects an assortment of audio files and makes a sentence from it.
Newer Text-To-Speech uses Neural Networks / AI to make it speak and sound more natural and fluent, such as Siri.

2:31 So, it seems Gordon’s original design had two large horns protruding from his forehead.

6:39 that beat doe 💀
Wow just wow, this was very interesting thanks for making this video. plus those Panther eyes are traumatizing XD
4:13 wow nice perfectly cut explosion
And the mod's dead :/-
Well, it was the work of one person, or a few people, I can understand why; hope that it receives more traction now, and the mod resurrects either by the guy, now with a bigger team, or a different team
I mean it's basically the same old HL1 just everything is less detailed to have an aesthetic.
@@8166PC1 ...No
It is more rough, yes, but it had ideas and concepts that were scrapped, cut or reworked for many reasons, it's not just forcibly low-res HL1. It's still something fascinated to see, even more for people who wanna work in game developing areas; to see how the developers thought of something and a lot of things that were taken out of that project and put on another one, or at least considered
But I understand you not having the same mindset as me surrounding this
They REALLY put the moves on Gordon Freeman ,Jesus if the entire HECU was capable of these moves then Gordon would have been dead long ago
that guy with the minigun was a cut mini boss his entire model was removed and his face was used in the other grunts faces
The text to speech system is a custom thing. It has a bunch of voice files for individual words and you can assemble them into sentences. Its surprisingly large, it knows way more words than it needs too, but its only useful within half life as its vocabulary is still quite small
3:29 the reason why the barrel could be so big is black mesa was a nuclear missile site. So maybe the idea was repurposed silo tubes. (Hints why you are close to the surface in this one as well.)
'' Shut down, Attemping Shut down, it's not, it's not shutting down, *AAAAAAAAH!* ''

WHY DO WE ALL HAVE TO WEAR THESE RIDICULOUS TIES?!
9:30 that shotgun shell animation was sick someone loved their job
The MP5 in this one actually sounds more suppressed than in the final version we got. And I prefer this one's reload animation for the Glock. 😋
Heeeeey, the "attempting shutdown" line actually makes WAY more sense here than in the original! Like, here's he tries to shut the *portal* down, not the machine itself! While in the end product it doesn't actually make much sense
Honestly the Panthereyes aren’t that big of a problem. *The headcrabs however...*
The shocked facial expressions make perfect sense after the accident occurs.
Yeah. Valve probably had different expressions in mind?

there was a dead scientist with a crowbar near the canyon when you climb up the ladder.
Just a side note, in October 2020, they announced HL:AZ is officially dead. RIP.
1:56 H- h- helmet ?
13:17 the rooms so empty its just got storage in the front of it and then just FUCKING nothing, the place they take gordon based on the map is at a door all the way back to the beginning of the map its the only door that the player doesn't go through
7:43 Even as a zombie, Otis still wants snacks
12:12 when half life 3 will come out
It sucks that this mod has stopped development. It’s a really cool concept and it was a lot of fun to play
I'm glad they stick to the decade defining grunge and realism look for the final build, the cheesy yet grounded atmosphere of this one resembles something like a prototype of Halo, which the decade wasn't ready for until the early aughts.
The ignorance of "why is it that small by default" lol resolutions... that's why.
VOX is not a text-to-speech engine. It's all individual words that are stored as .wav files being played in sequence, voiced by Michael Shapiro (The Gman voice actor).
Correction: according to Combine OverWiki the words used by VOX were recorded using a vocoder, not by human voice
@@DojoKanojoCho A vocoder is not a TTS engine. A vocoder is basically an editor for pre-recorded human speech. It's presumed either Michael Shapiro or Kelly Bailey did the voice, and then used a vocoder to synthesize it into the in-game voice.
Perfect editing. Perfect amount of text, perfect amount of gags.
Perfection.

The climbing sounds and animations are like the ladder is attacking you. And the faces of the scientists are just hilarious!
6:26 - that was one of the scrapped enemies, the Panther Eye, I guess. There's even a promotional image of that in the Half Life wiki where it is grabbing a scientist by the arm, surrounded by HECU.
It's weird to think where we would be if this was what valve released.
A world without Steam
Too bad that technology limited some features from being added at that time, some of these are really cool and would've made the game a lot cooler if they were added.
At 5:36 there should be a dead guard at the start of Unforseen Consequences, if you go up a zombie should be eating the body and there should be a security card.
The crowbar underwent zero changes. Why?

Because of some of the additions I'm seeing in the beta version, there should be a mod to add some of this stuff into the full retail version. Example is the HEV suit tells you what gun you got. I would actually love that feature in the full retail version.
There's a deathmatch map that does this for some of the guns. Vacant Town
There is a mod called Half-Life: Restored, but I haven't played it so I can't tell you if it's any good or not.
