Benjamin Zander (conductor)
Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra
November 2, 2015, Symphony Hall, Boston
Dave Jamrog Audio/Video
The best part is how many of the players have tiny smiles while playing - you just know they know they are crushing it
They were concentration faces
Yeah I did this in my school we had like a shatin got talent in hongkong cuz im Cantonese I performed on stage with little smilies people thought I was smiling bc of joy but I said nah bruh I was concentrating
I am playing Glinka in an orchestra, I am a bassist, I can confirm that the pure joy this brings me when I play is is impossible to fathom
it’s rare we get the melody lmao

Bravo, Michael Glinka! 👏👏👏
Memory eternal to a genius of Russian music!!
I prefer this version over the other ones, it's speed is just perfect not too fast or slow
My junior high all county (7th-8th grade) played this and it was a lot of crying practicing 🥲
What an impressive performance by a youth orchestra. Great job.
I can really feel the energy in this. The music makes me want to move along with it
This performance is absolutely ASTONISHING!
The energy, the expression of joy on the players' faces, and that gem of music educator as a conductor -- what a great mixture.
I love Mom
"Mom" is a popular U.S. TV program. This is it's theme music.
@@renzo6490 Thanks.
Zander is an incredible man to behold. He is in his moment and there's probably no better place he'd prefer. These young people with so much enthusiasm and determination, bring feelings of hope and goodness back to me I thought I had lost long ago. Bravo to you amazingly talented and courageous youth! You are the breath of life.
Benjamin Zander is truly able to animate the music and allow the orchestra to follow
exactly!
over 80 yrs old wow
i’m happy to see that Benjamin Zander is the conductor! he’s an amazing instructor
A beautiful piece of music! Come fly the friendly skies.
I have a mental picture of Martin and Douglas flying GERTI to some exotic location. Superb.
When this began, I felt a thrill that lasted throughout!!
Zander is a genius, a treasure and a magician.
I just discovered this guy, while searching for a crisp version of the R & L overture. My lands, this chap blows the doors off the hinges! Lovin every minute of it.
My God did they nail that! Fantastic performance. Timpani dynamic perfect throughout.
Be proud girls & guys. You should be.
one of the greatest conductors of our time...he made these kids sound like Berlin Phil!!
This overture reminds me of Beethoven's 'Egmont'. Exuberant performance!
Amazing and wonderful! It took me a moment to realize that this is the Boston Philharmonic Youth orchestra and not the Boston Philharmonic! Wonderful playing.
Bravooooooooooooooooooooooo Maestro Zonder, you create with this young group a fantastic energy. If Glinka would be in life, he would be HAPPY to see your work.Thank you !!!!!!!!!!
My Goodness me sir! I’ve had tears in my eyes since the first note. I recognized immediately your joyful style and profound understanding of music, which always mesmerize me in your master classes. You always say to young musicians to live life fully and to spread joy into the audience. I really hope you'll live forever and, most and foremost, I hope that you are fully aware of how much happiness and joy you are spreading, all over the world, with your invaluable teachings. Only you and Yuri Simonov (another admirer of my exquisite countryman and brilliant conductor Sergiu Celibidache, by the way) could have not simple applauses at the end, but frenetic cheers. From Romania, with love!
Awesome. The best America has to offer.
@@NatashaMalkova i think he meant the best kid musicians. this is very hard because it's so fast, but it sounds very clean and precise. but there are a lot of other great youth orchestras, texas all-state orchestra for one
Ben this brought that tingle, just like the first time I heard this with Gennady Rozhdestvensky and the Vienna Symphony. Thanks to all those involved.
Well done boys and girls - well played. Greetings from Russia.
Thank God I liked this so I can always watch this even though I cant get to it from the channel.
Please never take this down.
One of the glorious pieces of music, great performance by the orchestra
Maestro! I'm your fun for the past X years. You are an inspiration and soul not only for young people, but also to many music lovers and professionals around the world! I have learned a lot from your videos and talks on TED. Your art is especially appreciated during these days of war for existence of the ISRAEL. We are Creators, while they are Destroyers
This is making me so very happy right now.
This is the passion and commitment you can get from the Youth Orchestra only
Very sharp and crisp. Nicely done
Exciting performance!! Better than the adult ones!! Clear, ringing, and with great tone :)
A wonderful performance! Absolutely thrilling to listen to.
Здорово!👏
Excellent for these young artists and BYSO staff members. BRAVO

This version kicks ass! 👏
All I say is WOW!Bravo!!!!!!
I just came here because I wanted to hear the full version of the Mom intro
Just wonderful🙏
I'll watch this every day.
Mom brought me here 😂🎉
BRAVO IN THE MOST CHERESHED HALL IN THE WORLD
Bravo!!!
Great performance. Anyone else got worried that the cello players chair rear leg, was getting dangerously close to the edge? 🎵
Very young orchestra and an experienced conductor, sounds terrific 🎉
I got emotional at the end...and teared up. 🥹
Ah~ Boston Phil! How long have I missed you!
Usually I don't listen classic music it's boring for me (sorry) but this it's a Master play! Very good job! Bravissimo!
And here, all this time, I thought Fritz & the CSOs were my favorite recording. Bravissimo to Zander and the Yutes.
Phenomenal!
Wonderful ❤
Love the energy from the musicians. You can feel the passion, playing like they have something to prove.
It's not silky clean like a professional orchestra, but I'd prefer this recording over many other renditions of it.
AMAZING
Perfect
Superb!
Who knew that Londo Mollari could conduct?
Must be Burling day at MJN Air.
Mozart would have liked this ouverture so much
I was thinking the same exact thing! It sounds like some Mozart would write, especially the runs.
@@emilyberry360 I do thank you for the answer Emily
The young musicians are superb, the old conductor is younger than many of his age.
So musical
Can some of these kids even drive yet??? UNREAL
Superb!
Wow!
MOM!
Anyone else get nervous at how close that cellist's chair was to the edge of the stage?
mee! he must have been so nervous too
Zander voller Begeisterung.
Ja, man kann das Stück in ganzen Takten dirigieren.
I heard this song on All That.
This is definitely one buttock playing.
Four people (so far!) apparently saw that lecture. :)
Оооо! Великий Глинка!@@
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks to John Finnemore for Cabin Pressure, which introduced this piece to me. 😅😅
🤯🤯🤯 💯 🔥
Bonnie Plunkett!
Glad someone else knew that!
To this day, I still cannot comprehend the use of a conductor outside of practice.
it's the conductor's vision you hear. eh, pardon that...
@@jgunther3398 So, to be a preening peacock, then. Fair ebough.
@@Deridus it's music making
Still not an explanation of why they are there. 90% of the crew can't see the hand movements and those that could, should be focusing on their music, right? While it's been decades since I performed in a choir, only thing we needed was a music director to tell us to start because we already knew our task. Having a director who most folks can't see wave his tiny wand around just looks silly and inefficient. @@jgunther3398

why speed up the video?
little much to conduct this in two I think
To slow for russian musik
F A S T
about 160 . the score says 135, which is enough to create an impression of really fast
Jubilation.
Very good performance, very poor video.
There are simply too many notes. Just cut a few and it'll be perfect!
Too fast. The woodwinds can’t keep up. Outa time boys and girls
Блескуче, краще виконання
Very poor camera work. If it is a youth symphony why do you mostly show the old man? Musically excellent, though. I wished to show it to high school students, but how could you motivate them with this shoddy video.
lol motivate them to do what? your students will never play like the ones in this "shoddy video", no matter what you do
This is the tv show mom theme song
