      Original doesn’t mean desirable, or even good. Pop music is terrible as it is. Covering rock songs, classic rock songs at that, doesn’t make it any better.

      That wasn't really the point. It's an incredibly high-energy song, both lyrically and musically. You expend energy performing it. She just stood there like she'd been nailed to the floor. I'm sure Metallica smiled and were nice about it while thinking 'what the fuck was that?'
      Unrelated but the direction Lavigne went in...such a shame because despite being a fairly over-produced album in terms of its layering (some songs have 8-9 separate guitar layers in the track!), Let Go is a masterpiece.

  • @cbzgn38

    Metallica asked Avril Lavigne to cover "Fuel," for part of MTV's Icon show and it was a respectable showing. It's a little nit picky when no one is going to perform it like Metallica. Just look at Korn's version of "One" and Limp Bizkit's version of "Sanitarium."

    • @Snarl616
      @Snarl616 5 лет назад +3

      No it wasn't a respectable show. Avril Lavigne's vocals were weak, whiny and a bit struggling. And especially, she didn't really convince anybody that she can rock. She's never been a rocker.
      I understand that this was not a cover to be officially released, so it's not really a problem, but still it fed the naysayers.

    Probably going to get hell for this, but Limp Bizkit's cover of "Behind Blue Eyes" was pretty damn good, all things considered. I feel like it shows the anguish in the lyrics, where The Who's version displayed anger. Just my interpretation of it; that's the beauty of music, it means something different to everyone.

    Under the bridge is what got me into Red Hot Chili Peppers & should ONLY be done by them.
    No one should ever cover AC/DC.
    Sheryl Crow did a horrible job covering an untouchable song.
    If anyone covers Metallica it should be Ghost. They did Enter sandman, it's ok but isn't bad. They didn't butcher it. Voice was off but everything else was good. Avril just Butchered Fuel. Fuel got me into Metallica.

      Yes, I can read. Maybe you didn't understand my point. a) I think Britney's version is good b) I love Joan Jett's music, especially her three first solo albums and her three first albums with The Runaways. c) It is kinda of strange say that Britney is covering Joan Jett - she probably never heard any versions. After all, it is the song of The Arrows. d) How is Britney's version bad? It is more soulful and listenable than some of the cover version Metallica recorded on Garage Inc. The way they covered Black Sabbath sounded awful. e) Do you understand that Britney is perhaps the most important female artist of the 90's besides Mariah? You can hear her influence almost on every female artist of the 2000's.
