Her cover version wasn't that bad, I actually like it more than the original but the original "My sweet child of mine." by Guns & Rose was undoubtedly much better.
Probably going to get hell for this, but Limp Bizkit's cover of "Behind Blue Eyes" was pretty damn good, all things considered. I feel like it shows the anguish in the lyrics, where The Who's version displayed anger. Just my interpretation of it; that's the beauty of music, it means something different to everyone. These other covers though...dear god why?!
I agree with you about LB's cover of Behind Blue Eyes. Also that Under the Bridge cover truly enraged me. It sounds like they just sampled the guitar from the original and sang over it with their mediocre voices!
I loved LB cover. I can’t believe how much they get crapped on these days. I mean I get it, Fred was a douche. But everyone in the media pretends like they weren’t any good. They tore the roof down for a solid 3 albums. That was their breakthrough song. Lol
I also agree. Their behind blue eyes cover gave me chills and have me hope, that a new generation COULD capture classics in their original context. Keep in mind, B.L.E. was not on this list
I remember people really liking the LB cover of Behind Blue Eyes. I thought it was good, it deserved its place alongside the original. I didn't even hate their cover of Faith. I feel like it's something that people eventually hated due to the completely explainable death of nu-metal. It was all the rage, then it was nothing.
Ok, Diehard FOB fan here, 1- FOB, the only classics you can touch are yourselves(and beat it) 2-They were the composers for Ghostbusters and were asked by the directors to collaborate with Missy Elliott to make the song 3- My heart will always be the b-side to my tongue is supposed to not be an real album, just a album for put-to the-side songs and covers

At least the other covers on the list have some notable differences in the sound, but with this one even the guitar is the exact same sampled! Honestly have more respect for Limp Bizkit now after hearing that copycat RHCP cover!
Call me crazy but a cover sounding exactly like the original kinda seems to defeat the purpose of covering a song? Also seems like WatchMojo has something against pop. Jeez.
"At least put an original spin on it" after criticizing almost everyone on this list for not sounding exactly like the original. Make up your mind, dude.
True dat. Tori did the most amazing rendition ever. I personally think she captured Kurt's painful emotion and content he was ironically portraying on the song
She didn't exactly knock it out of the park, I'd say. I can mostly see what he's saying with that, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's an absolute and no one at all can ever do it. I've noted it's worked occasionally when a band spontaneously rips into it live if they're playing to the right crowd. If anyone sets out to do it and try really hard to make it awesome, it will always come off as contrived
"don't take a rock song and turn it into a pop song" ... but also "don't make a carbon copy cover" Make up your mind, dude. At the end of the day it's a appreciation for artists and their songs. Everyone has different tastes.
He just has a thing against pop songs. Top ten greatest cover songs he added a pop song that was covered by a rock band, high on the list, that was completely horrible.
Kyle Healey it’s ok to have bad taste; Kyle just understand that it was massively poorly received. Now let’s talk about your defense of limp biscuit! Limp biscuit is possibly the worst band of the late 90’s and early 00‘s! I hate to say it but your neck beard is showing
what I find fascinating about each of these videos is that its rock songs that have been covered not pop songs. There are some abysmal covers out there but the lads and geeks of mojo don't like their rock groups being covered. The cover of Live and let Die by Guns and Roses is APPALLING. I mean really really really bad. But because its a rock group it doesn't get mentioned.
I am a die hard GNR, WS, AC/DC fan but those covers were actually pretty good. Larvinge shouldn’t be held too hard bc it wasn’t a released but was just live. Same for Dion. Live covers are meant to be just fun. The original video made sense, this video is not so great. His complaint is either they are too original or not original enough.
@@I_Am_The_Social_Reject You really need to look up "classic" in the dictionary. And instead of "updating" allready existing songs, artists need to make something original.
Holy hell, that cover is THE WORST. It completely misses the mark on the whole tone and intention of the song. She took a classic rock song and turned it into something that would be suitable to play in the background at a hipster coffee shop. No! You don't do that to GNR.

Honestly, I'm amazed Flo Rida's version of You Spin Me Right Round wasn't on this list. It didn't even try to be subtle with the lyrical content and just... Simply was not good.
1. You didn't even say the original artist, Dead or Alive, helps your case. 2. Right Round- Flo Rida, You Spin Me (Right Round)- Dead or Alive, not a cover, just a sample. Flo Rida is/was notorious for taking 80's, 90's and Avicii mixes as samples and turning them into cash hogs; dude's set for life now using other people's music and rapping/singing *shivers* over it. But that's rappers for you.

Carlos Santana had an album out called Guitar Heaven which was essentially a cover album. He did a cover of Under The Bridge which is WAY better than the All Saints version.
She took away everything that made the song great. The Opening lick, the guitar work and the soaring and emotional vocals. In my book, That's the worst way to cover a song.
@@jeromeclemente3672 I disagree. Nothing like the original, yeah, but Sheyl doesnt even try. She just makes her own country pop version, and its quite beautiful, if you listen without comparing.
It was hard just knowing such covers exist, I hate the fact they covered White Stripes, Blondie, ACDC, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Nirvana, Metallica, A-Ha, and Public Enemy with little to no respect.

She's beeing amazing, it shows the beauty that she is able to break from the usual music she makes, those vocals are NOT easy, and she made them sound fucking beautiful
I believe that there is no “perfect” genre because “perfect” does not actually exist. The idea of “perfect” is, like many things that have shaped our perceptions of the world, a social construct. I’m not saying your belief or opinion is wrong, I’m just offering how I see music and other art forms.
If unofficial live covers were included, there sure would've been "Smells Like Teen Spirit" covered by Miley Cyrus or "Bohemian Rhapsody" covered by Kanye West at Glastonbury.
"Bohemian Rhapsody" - I knew they forgot something. Kanye wasn't even singing. He was looking for some attention. Kanye has proved that anyone can become a famous artist and no song-writing skills or talent needed.
Nive Ashok Kanye has no talent at all. His rap uses lots of samples from other artists. He is popular only because he manipulates people. He acts like a kid. I like some rap music and Kanye is not even near the talent of Kendrick Lamar. Even Jay-Z and Drake are better. Yes, Will Smith has more street credit than a dumb rapper who decided to marry KIM K - well at least those two are as annoying and dumb - a perfect match. Kanye is selling bullshit to dumb people - it doesn't make him smart or talented.
These are insults to the original songs. I'm suprised you didn't mention Miley Cyrus cover of teen spirit when talking about it. Under the bridge is what got me into Red Hot Chili Peppers & should ONLY be done by them. No one should ever cover AC/DC. Sheryl Crow did a horrible job covering an untouchable song. If anyone covers Metallica it should be Ghost. They did Enter sandman, it's ok but isn't bad. They didn't butcher it. Voice was off but everything else was good. Avril just Butchered Fuel. Fuel got me into Metallica. To all musicians: Rule#1: NEVER TOUCH A UNTOUCHABLE SONG. Rule#2: If you do a cover, DO IT SOME JUSTICE. There's too few good covers.
limp bizkit - behind blue eyes.. that one is amazing. to me that one is one of those soul wrenching songs, both original and theirs. and i usely hate when ppl make covers. usely there are few exeptions, obviusly.
Blanca Rodríguez Martínez Yes, I can read. Maybe you didn't understand my point. a) I think Britney's version is good b) I love Joan Jett's music, especially her three first solo albums and her three first albums with The Runaways. c) It is kinda of strange say that Britney is covering Joan Jett - she probably never heard any versions. After all, it is the song of The Arrows. d) How is Britney's version bad? It is more soulful and listenable than some of the cover version Metallica recorded on Garage Inc. The way they covered Black Sabbath sounded awful. e) Do you understand that Britney is perhaps the most important female artist of the 90's besides Mariah? You can hear her influence almost on every female artist of the 2000's.
I had no idea anyone did a cover of “Under the Bridge,” “Faith,” “Take On Me,” “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” or “One Way or Another” but I think the original versions are better.
Yes, Yes, Yes, Meh, and this has been covered so many times that it's practically "Happy Birthday" now. Blondie is basically rich with just "One Way or Another."
I personally love One Direction’s cover of One Way or Another. It was upbeat, silly, and for a great cause. Many of these are actually great covers. The narrator is basically saying not to cover any song. If you do and it’s an exact copy of original, it’s terrible. If you do and you put your own spin on it, it’s terrible. Make up your mind. Although there are a couple atrocious covers on here
Plus the singer of Joy Division had epilepsy and I think that it was one of the most emotional songs that they ever made. Plus with Transmission which was marvelous. I also agree with the whole Slash thing because nobody should try and make a song like #9's cover of "Sweet Child o' Mine".
you do know that one direction donated more than 1.000.000£ just from “one way or another”. Instead of spending money on a music video they filmed it them self while being on tour. The music video might not make sense to you but it’s special for us the fans. Remember to treat people with kindness next time.
"This version was popular when you were somewhere between 14 and 24." "Wow, that is the most awesome song ever!" "This is a cover of the same song, done when you were 38." "These kids are ruining all the good music!"

I have a soft spot for the band despite what people may say.
Aaron Ruesch I don’t listen to AC/DC a lot, but they are rock singers after all they aren’t trying to sound like anything else. Every artists usually sings songs that sound similar cause of their genre. But you can tell the songs apart just clean out your ears.

Angelo Cordova listen to Debbie Harry’s then listen again. Then sing along to the lyrics
In that Smells Like Teen Spirit cover, they weren't even singing the right words. Like wtf.
TakeThisification The Tori Amos version is the best cover of that song. Kurt Cobain said he liked it himself.
Her cover is fucking perfection.
The Bruthal 6 cover of it bangs tho
If the song was only performed once, why even bother mentioning it? I can't understand watchMojo sometimes.
I disagree with the Sheryl crow one..her version was good
I guess it's tomatoes vs potatoes on that one. I've heard people like it, people hate it. I'm in the later camp, but I'm biased since GnR was one of my favs in the 80s
I agree. Sheryl Crow wasn’t bad at all.
Her cover version wasn't that bad, I actually like it more than the original but the original "My sweet child of mine." by Guns & Rose was undoubtedly much better.
Her version was trash
I agree!!!
"Rock" and Celine Dion do not exist in the same universe.
NineX it's honestly a fine cover.. rock fans are just annoying that's why everyone makes fun of them for believing they're "music elitists"
Listen to her Taking Chances album and then you can talk...
It's actually amazing that Celine dabbled in rock.
Power of Love is a rock ballad.
But it wasn't that bad
Probably going to get hell for this, but Limp Bizkit's cover of "Behind Blue Eyes" was pretty damn good, all things considered. I feel like it shows the anguish in the lyrics, where The Who's version displayed anger. Just my interpretation of it; that's the beauty of music, it means something different to everyone.
These other covers though...dear god why?!
I agree with you about LB's cover of Behind Blue Eyes. Also that Under the Bridge cover truly enraged me. It sounds like they just sampled the guitar from the original and sang over it with their mediocre voices!
I'll go a step further and say i like Durst's version better than the original
Ok, Diehard FOB fan here,
1- FOB, the only classics you can touch are yourselves(and beat it)
2-They were the composers for Ghostbusters and were asked by the directors to collaborate with Missy Elliott to make the song
3- My heart will always be the b-side to my tongue is supposed to not be an real album, just a album for put-to the-side songs and covers
TRUE
Thank god no one ruined Bon Jovi or Green Day
Except every X Factor cover of 'Living on a Prayer' that sucks the energy out of the song.
They ruined themselves with their careers. 😂
Not yet!
Don't give some dummy a bad idea!!!! Lol
As much as I love Green day they’re ruined anyway
When they said that Seven Nation Army had a bass line my heart broke. Do they do any research?
Well, I mean technically it is a bass line just played on a guitar with an octave pedal.
A bassline doesn't mean "part for bass guitar". It's just a melodic line in the bass register, which it has.
It has
I know but a bass is just the top 4 strings of a guitar and really it's only done on a guitar because they don't have a bass
It is a bass line its just played on a guitar.....with an octave pedal which kinda makes it a bass
half of these were actually decent covers... not sure who wrote this episode, but i think they've got a grudge.
I hope you’re not including love will tear us apart?!!!!!!
@@CashelOConnolly Word. Fall Out Boy can eat a dick. Unless they are into that, then they can eat something else so long as it is comparably undesirable to someone eating a dick that is not into.
@@CashelOConnolly Fall out boy's cover wasn't that bad, there are 100+ other non fall out boy covers worse than that one. I understand it might not be your taste nor might not be the a good song, but it shouldn't be this hated.
I detest All Saints for Under The Bridge. A classic Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Took a song about heroin addiction and turned it into an insipid love song X x
RHCP hated it themselves lol, Anthony roasted them
How much money did they receive for selling their Rock Souls to a shit girl band? I hope it was millions rather than pennies! X x
All saints cover of "Under the bridge." is dull, lame and is pointless, I can see why RHCP deeply regretted letting them cover it.
At least the other covers on the list have some notable differences in the sound, but with this one even the guitar is the exact same sampled! Honestly have more respect for Limp Bizkit now after hearing that copycat RHCP cover!
Seriously?! CHANGING WHAT THE SONG MEANT TAKES AWAY ALL THE MEANING!!!! IT MAKES IT TERRIBLE!
+R Pants They contradict themselves in pretty much every video they make.
Well, pop music is pretty fucking terrible.
You hate rock so
Covering "Smells like Teen Spirit" is never a good idea? Thank God nobody told Tori Amos that...
Or Patti Smith
True dat. Tori did the most amazing rendition ever. I personally think she captured Kurt's painful emotion and content he was ironically portraying on the song
Check out the Hard dance version by the Warp Brothers. You won't regret it!
Or "Weird" Al Yankovic.
Sheryl Crow wasn't that bad. It's just NEVER a good idea to cover GnR. They are untouchable.
Chris Falcon I thought Sheryl’s version was good. It’s just a slowed down acoustical version from a female perspective.
Yeah they were just being a bit elitist on that one
Yeah hers isnt bad at all.
The Ghost of John Lennon Yep. One example is Bob Dylan’s Knocking On Heavens Door. Yikes.
The worst part is the "where do we go" part, where she imitates Axl Rose note for note, which doesn't do the song any justice.
"don't take a rock song and turn it into a pop song" ... but also "don't make a carbon copy cover"
Make up your mind, dude. At the end of the day it's a appreciation for artists and their songs. Everyone has different tastes.
Chelsea Lea what he means is that you need to put your own twist on it but don’t completely change the genre

Avril was amazing
Sheryl crow was amazing
Linp brisket was amazing
AND DON'T EVER INSULT BIG DADDY.
The avril maybe, sheryl crow yes but I say no to the limp bizket, also did you say limp brisket?
I agree..SC version wasn't bad at all!!
Avril will never come close to matching Hetfield's vocals. He's a totally different style plus it's freaking AWESOME!
Typos happen, not judging, just finding the phrase "Linp Brisket" absolutely hilarious
what I find fascinating about each of these videos is that its rock songs that have been covered not pop songs. There are some abysmal covers out there but the lads and geeks of mojo don't like their rock groups being covered. The cover of Live and let Die by Guns and Roses is APPALLING. I mean really really really bad. But because its a rock group it doesn't get mentioned.
Facts.
Then next time actually vote instead of whining on the Internet. You know these are all voted on by viewers right?
Also it's geeky now to like rock?
I'm glad that I'm NOT the only one to say this about the HIDEOUSNESS of Guns N' Roses "Live and let die" rendition.
Hate on Sheryl Crows sweet child of mine all u want
But don’t hate on Big Daddy
Anastasia: one of the most underrated singers of all time 👏
I am a die hard GNR, WS, AC/DC fan but those covers were actually pretty good.
Larvinge shouldn’t be held too hard bc it wasn’t a released but was just live. Same for Dion. Live covers are meant to be just fun.
The original video made sense, this video is not so great. His complaint is either they are too original or not original enough.
So Taylor Swifts cover of September by Earth Wind and Fire didn't make the list?
We don't talk about that
*she changed the lyrics*

Fuel was just a song Avril sang at a Metallica tribute show. Metallica seemed to like it based on their reaction.
Carl Stawicki Yeah, I thought it sounded pretty good
Nothing Else Matters.
I thought her version SUCKED ASS!!!! If I was a member of Metallica I'd be wearing a paper sack over my head saying "She really sucks"
Metallica could have never said "No, it sucks". The whole Metallica Mtv Icon was a buffoonery.
Moral of the story: Don't touch the classics. Ever.

That sweet child cover ain't that bad should not be on this list
Yeah. I actually think it's better than the original.
I agree
Holy hell, that cover is THE WORST. It completely misses the mark on the whole tone and intention of the song. She took a classic rock song and turned it into something that would be suitable to play in the background at a hipster coffee shop. No! You don't do that to GNR.

Sounds like your glands are inhibiting your ability to accurately judge music.
Honestly, I'm amazed Flo Rida's version of You Spin Me Right Round wasn't on this list. It didn't even try to be subtle with the lyrical content and just... Simply was not good.
That's a sample
Let's face it, the song is pure crap anyway, It's doubtful anyone could make a decent cover of that song.
Flo Rida''s Right Round is an original song, not a cover. However, the "you spin me right round" line serves as it's sample.

Let's create a golden rule: Never redo a song of Rock/Metal or a classic if you are a pop singer
Sophie Valdes Avril Lavigne did a good job with How You Remind me.
Why not? Ok for Take That, that was terrible. But Sheryl Crow does it good. Dont be prejudiced against pop. Its not a minor gender.
Some people just can't do it. They suck at cover songs.

Pop stars just need to learn to leave rock it’s already perfect

I was 13 when Limp Bizkit's cover of Faith came out and I indeed loved it !
Reijo P. kanye has talent (at least in my opinion i know that's subjective) but he's best when he sticks to his lane
Reijo P. i kinda agree with you tbh

These are insults to the original songs. I'm suprised you didn't mention Miley Cyrus cover of teen spirit when talking about it.
Under the bridge is what got me into Red Hot Chili Peppers & should ONLY be done by them.

After all, it is the song of The Arrows. d) How is Britney's version bad? It is more soulful and listenable than some of the cover version Metallica recorded on Garage Inc. Yes, Yes, Yes, Meh, and this has been covered so many times that it's practically "Happy Birthday" now. Blondie is basically rich with just "One Way or Another."
The "Under the Bridge" cover honestly just sounds plagiarized!
I find that most cover songs sound like drunk people singing...and they forgot the words.
