The reason why everything is so cheap in China because the country focus on the people. That is why the country is called the People's Republic of China, and the money (renminbi) translates to people's money, etc. All public companies are basically close to non-profit companies to make sure everything is the most affordable for the people. Welcome to China, but it is recommended to avoid the summer vacation period, as it is hot, crowded, expensive, and tickets for many attractions are hard to book. After all, the children are out playing during the summer vacation.
Good job. Measure the world with your footsteps, not CNN or FOX News. China is a large country. Next time you can choose some second tier city. That will give you more experience about this country. But one thing I can guarantee you, any city in China is safe.
This is only a minor reason. The more important reason is to better carry out the country's digital governance. In fact, the country had already proposed the concept of digitalization 20 years ago, but of course few people understood it at that time.
If you go to the forbidden city, don't forget to book at least 2 weeks before. You can also go to the temple of heaven and the great wall in Beijing. For sure, don't miss visiting Xi'an City for the terracotta warriors, drum tower and go to Zhang Jia Jie (The avatar mountain). If you like visiting villages, you can go to DaLi, Yunnan, Tiger Leaping Gorge mountain. You can also go for a beach time in the southern part. And if you like visiting more river scenery, go to GuiLin. Standing at the confluence of two rivers, the monumental 1200-year old Buddha image at Le Shan is carved directly into the rock face in SiChuan province. Wanna go see dessert scenery along the ancient slik road, you can see a bunch of collections of Buddhist art among more than 490 Buddhist caves in the area, the mural and statue in DunHuang.
Pls note the 6 day Transit Visa is to and from Countries AND region - so Taiwan, HongKong and Macao can serve as thirds place to transit to or from. So you go to Shanghai then Hong Kong then Guangzhou then Taipei, then back to Beijing etc. like a city hopping btw mainland, Taiwan and HK/Macao ( greater China) region. So you can do this for 1 month without needing a Visa. China is cheap mainly because the inflation has been 1-2% for recent 7-8 years (compared to US where price has inflated 40-50% since 2018). Chinese household good, cars and house have gotten cheaper due to price war and real estate bubble burst.
I live in Australia (probably the best country in the Anglosphere), security check at the metro/train station would be really annoying for me. This is because in general we have a crappy metro/train system. If I missed my train I'll have to wait a substantial amount of time for the next one (like 15-20 minutes during peak hours, i.e. if there is not delayed). You typically don't need to rush in Chinese metro (also most places in East Asia), trains are always on time, a train comes every 2 minutes during peak hours and 3-4 minutes during other times. BTW, weekends are consider peak hours there, because the metro is so affordable that people actually go out.
How about Japan and Korea, or even Taiwan? Big cities in these countries have even busier transportation systems. But they don't have security check in subway stations. And their systems run just as smooth. If you look back in the future you will know how stupid and tedious the security check is.
5:52 what you can do to by-pass this situation is go somewhere nearby. Although Hong Kong and Macau is part of China but thanks to the two-system policy they are considered outside of the “boarder”, you can use that as your “transiting destination” and renew your visa. For example I can fly into ChongQing, China from Thailand, and book the flight from ChongQing to Hong Kong, then from Hong Kong to ChengDu, from ChengDu to Macau, and from Macau to ShangHai. It is more expensive than having an actual visa, but much easier to get in lol
Very accurate! Just an FYI: Bags being scanned at subway to prevent terrorism and keep people safe. China suffered separatist terrorist attacks in public place in the late 1990s to through 2015. You can look it up in Wikipedia - that way you will understand the Xinjiang question better.
Authentic Beijing food is almost entirely non-spicy, and almost all traditional food from coastal China is non-spicy. China's southwest and parts of the west have the habit of eating spicy food, with the flow of population in various regions and people's pursuit of different tastes of food, these spicy food quickly spread to all parts of China.
What can be really shocking to you about China is housing. For starters, there is no property tax. The big one is housing is really inexpensive in China - there are of course exceptions. Even in a tier one city such as Shenzhen, a 150 sq. m. flat may cost you RMB2000 a month in rent. If you prefer Kunming or Chengdu, housing costs are even lower.
Chinese is a tonal expressive language. From my experience traveling China, it's the ones who talk loud and rude are the most friendly and welcoming. It's the soft spoken quiet ones you have to watch your backs around.
This is a stupid explanation. I think Mainland Chinese talk loudly in public places because 1)they are not educated in school to keep their voices down in public . 2)they are not considerate of other people; self-center 3)they never thought of themselves as rude/impolite doing so, some even think this is part of Chinese traditonal culture (which is not, believe me).
China is a cashless society, so there is no need to carry annoying coins and banknotes. Many homes are equipped with electronic locks and electronic keys, which can be unlocked using the NFC function of your mobile phone, which is very convenient. Just take your mobile phone with you when you go out. If your mobile phone is out of battery, there are power banks available for rent on the streets. Many people say that they may forget to bring their mobile phones when they go out, but that is impossible. Because you may forget other things, but you will not forget to bring your mobile phone. Because the mobile phone is associated with shopping, Didi, and the subway. If you forget to bring your mobile phone when you go out, you will find that you have forgotten your mobile phone after going out for about ten minutes, and you can return in time.
Australians, Kiwis, Germans, Dutch, French, Malaysians, Thai, Hungarians, Swiss, Irish, Italians and Poles can entre China visa free for 15 days. People from UAE and Serbia can enter for 30 days visa free. U.S isn't on the list due to the unfriendly relations between the 2 countries. If America stops attacking China then that would change instantly.
security check before enter the metro or railway station is boring, however once you were checked, you will feel extremely safe even into the crowd. the major reason is China has 1.4 billion people, publlic transportation including metra or HSR are always on time like a running machine. however if they haven't done any security check, there will be some accidents happened on the train or metro, that will cause the whole public transportation delayed, then the passengers have to spend more time to wait.
Oh really?? Then how about Japan and Korea, or even Taiwan? Big cities in these countries have even busier transportation systems. But they never have security check. And their systems run just as smooth. If you look back in the future you will know how stupid and tedious it is.
Re toilets in Shanghai or any big cities. I usually go to the fancy shopping malls. I remember some of the toilets even nicer than 5 star hotel by using Dyson stuff. I hate squad ones.
Squat toilets are v common in Asian countries. Toilet paper are usually available in a roll dispenser just outside of the toilet block. You have to take the amount you need first before going in. Prevents wastage and theft of paper.
That's why you are very safe in China and don't have to worry about being robbed or stolen. If all your payments are online and you don't have any cash on you, what's the use of robbing you? If they rob you, they don't take any cash, If they ask you to transfer money online, it can be traced directly to their account.
