- Let’s mash up some signals with MATHS! In a recent video we used multiple channels of René to create a single more complex sequence. This time let’s explore a similar idea on MATHS, using various shapes and functions all mashed together in a single output to modulate a single oscillator.

Coming back to this video again after it reappeared in my feed. This time I'm thinking about a Maths as sequencer and the ways we can generate sequences through feedback networks as demonstrated here in contrast to the more logical and binary approaches to making a sequence with step sequencer.
I love the mystery zone between the expected results of intentional patching, and the unexpected results of exploring the patch without a plan.
Me too!! ⚡️
the fact that all of this is "simply" a single module, modulating itself and sending the sum to just the frequency CV jack proves that Maths is the best module you can have in your system, getting one soon
⚡️⚡️
You won't regret it. It's an amazing module.
Little known fact: playing this patch with undivided attention for an hour straight is how a new Wogglebug module is summoned onto the material plane.
Id monster spawning ground 🤘
love this distinction between randomness and complexity. I rarely use truly “random” signals for anything, but I’m always looking for the surprise that comes with complexity. When the causal relationships within the system become too complex for me to map out precisely in my mind, I get into a special kind of flow, and the system becomes an environment for me to explore (and, importantly, one I can return to later if I want). That’s the magic for sure.
also, North of Midnight should have been the title of a Mötley Crüe album
Well stated!! ⚡🏖
These textures are amazing! It's incredible what you can achieve with so little in modular. Wow!
Thanks for video, it was really great and inspiring!
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed!! ⚡️⚡️
After all this time, Maths continues to amaze and inspire me! Nice one!
⚡️🎶⚡️
Honestly amazing video. Makes me fall more in love with my MN System. Thank you 🙏🏾
⚡️🎶⚡️
Thanks Walker, what a lovely reminder on the complexity within a simple patch with Maths & an oscillator
⚡️⚡️
Probably my favorite video yet! Never been so sad to be on vacation away from my MATHS 😢 🏝
⚡️⚡️
great video as always, inspiring as ever. much love to Walker and MN
Thanks!!
My favorite Maths vid yet :)
⚡️⚡️
ear candy overload. this is so good.
⚡️⚡️
so simple ... so great. Thank you for this math lesson.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed ⚡️
Always some great ideas to try at home!
Happy patching! ⚡️
Love you guys
Maths should come with discount coupons for Tylenol. Every time I try to get fancy with it I get a headache. And I'm not saying that's a bad thing ;-)
I let my left brain drive the bus. It's the bane of my music hobby.
That sound around 8:46 is so good!
⚡️⚡️
the portal opening tutorial i've been waiting 4 thanx
Can't decide if I prefer north of midnight or south of midnight. Sometimes I like up from waning.
🌝
awesome sounds here
Thanks Joey! ⚡️⚡️
Would be so incredibly cool if you would sell black panel Maths and Optomix individually , i have Make Noise rack and these two silver panel modules kinda ruin the whole aesthetic. I would buy them in duplicate and i’m sure others would too
That there is a solid 3 module challenge patch (if not taking into the end of chain EV)
The resultant sound is what I imagine how the inside of Walker's head sounds like. All of which makes perfect sense to him. Anyone else would go insane.
⚡😛⚡
it is still my big favorit
⚡️⚡️
Would you ever consider making an all-Maths system in a case like Dreadbox did with the Telepathy?
We built an all MATHS system in 2014 for fun, and then again in 2018 for our 10-year celebration. You can still see it in action on old Instagram posts by searching the hashtag #systemMATHS. Also, we built it again for the more recent video "Top Ways to Waste a MATHS Channel" on RUclips: ruclips.net/video/zX4wF1c7C4A/видео.htmlsi=KQ2322UAilMeYdnm
AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To paraphrase Burroughs..."incredible sounds leak out". Bravo.
✂️
If only Math was this fun in school.

On & on south of midnight 🤘🏻
⚡️⏰⚡️
Bonkers! 👽👍
Thanks!
Lovely demo of NRBC patching brought to you by Walker and the almighty Maths.... (Not-Random-But-Complex) hehe
NRBC approved! ⚡️⚡️
I keep hearing The Jetsons' in there... Seriously cool
Thanks for watching!!
Bonkers 👍

Hey MakeNoise! Make a "compact" Maths, that does 90% of what Maths does in half the size.
Well, we normally don't publicly speculate on future release, but I can safely say that this will never happen 😛⚡️⚡️
@@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC Foolish. The massive size of the Maths basically rules it out of any compact setup. You'd probably sell twice as many as full size Maths.
@@boydw1Get a Make Noise Function before they sell out forever.
Hey bud you went off with this one 🫡
Mission accomplished!! ⚡️😛⚡️
🍿⚡️
at 8:05 The patch recreated that annoying infamous "siren" sample... did anyone else hear that? Thes
rest is psychedelic af!
Oh yeah it does kinda sound like the classic airhorn 🔊
Holy cowbell !

Superimpose is your favorite word ;)
It's true 🙃
Robotron: 2084 called. It wants its cyborgs back.
Oh never-mind they just called again and said they concluded that the inefficient human race must be exterminated. Do you want me to tell them you'll call them back?
⚡️⚡️
aaaaaaaah ❤
Bonsoir les amis :)
Bonjour!
Those high tones are kinda messing with my brain. Am I a bat now ?
🦇
VCS3 like
Unfortunately, I've never had a MATHS Module...😢
Thanks for watching anyway!
play this to dolphins and they will flip
They love to flip, don't they? 🐬
Oof!
😛⚡️
"How Maths works" or "How Maths work" ??? :))
Yes
@@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC at the end you gotta make it work.
I am just getting into modular and I have a number of make noise modules including maths, and wondering why every demonstration video for this product only demonstrates how to make spacefarts, pewpews and filter sweeps that we can no longer use, because Edgar Winter used one in Frankenstein, and now we can't anymore...
And please don't tell me that you're simply trying to illustrate concepts, because you could illustrate the same concepts in a musical sense, could you not? If you can't demonstrate the product in a musical sense, then it's not a musical instrument.
Can you please show us how to use this in a musical capacity, or are we only supposed to make noise? See what I did there...
MATHS is open-ended and highly non-prescriptive in terms of its musical applications. That is to say, it does not "have a sound" and it is not oriented toward any particular genre or concept of music. Perhaps more importantly it is a module, a part of a larger system, rather than an instrument in itself. You will see MATHS in some sort of use in almost every video on our channel, some of which are more traditionally musical than others. One example that might be useful is the "Eurorack Ambient" video in which MATHS is utilized for envelope generation, LFO, attenuation, and mixing, but is not the primary "star of the show" so to speak. This is more often how MATHS is used in patches by most people than in being the centerpiece. ruclips.net/video/2q0f3gq65Z8/видео.html
@@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC hey guys, thank you so much for your response. I appreciate it.
I understand your answer and what you are saying, but I don't think you are understanding my request.
When you demonstrate your products, can you demonstrate them in a musical sense instead of demonstrating them in a sound effects sense.
If you struggle to make musical sounds with your products, I'm not sure what good they are, because I'm trying to make music, not noise...
Thanks for your reply! I don't agree that we struggle to make musical sounds, or that we are not demonstrating our instruments musically. If you can tell us what you mean by "musical" then I would be happy to provide some links to videos that might be closer to what you are looking for.
