  • Let’s mash up some signals with MATHS! In a recent video we used multiple channels of René to create a single more complex sequence. This time let’s explore a similar idea on MATHS, using various shapes and functions all mashed together in a single output to modulate a single oscillator.

    Coming back to this video again after it reappeared in my feed. This time I'm thinking about a Maths as sequencer and the ways we can generate sequences through feedback networks as demonstrated here in contrast to the more logical and binary approaches to making a sequence with step sequencer.

    I love the mystery zone between the expected results of intentional patching, and the unexpected results of exploring the patch without a plan.

    the fact that all of this is "simply" a single module, modulating itself and sending the sum to just the frequency CV jack proves that Maths is the best module you can have in your system, getting one soon

    Little known fact: playing this patch with undivided attention for an hour straight is how a new Wogglebug module is summoned onto the material plane.

    love this distinction between randomness and complexity. I rarely use truly “random” signals for anything, but I’m always looking for the surprise that comes with complexity. When the causal relationships within the system become too complex for me to map out precisely in my mind, I get into a special kind of flow, and the system becomes an environment for me to explore (and, importantly, one I can return to later if I want). That’s the magic for sure.
    also, North of Midnight should have been the title of a Mötley Crüe album

      We built an all MATHS system in 2014 for fun, and then again in 2018 for our 10-year celebration. You can still see it in action on old Instagram posts by searching the hashtag #systemMATHS. Also, we built it again for the more recent video "Top Ways to Waste a MATHS Channel" on RUclips: ruclips.net/video/zX4wF1c7C4A/видео.htmlsi=KQ2322UAilMeYdnm

    I am just getting into modular and I have a number of make noise modules including maths, and wondering why every demonstration video for this product only demonstrates how to make spacefarts, pewpews and filter sweeps that we can no longer use, because Edgar Winter used one in Frankenstein, and now we can't anymore...
    And please don't tell me that you're simply trying to illustrate concepts, because you could illustrate the same concepts in a musical sense, could you not? If you can't demonstrate the product in a musical sense, then it's not a musical instrument.
    Can you please show us how to use this in a musical capacity, or are we only supposed to make noise? See what I did there...

    • @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC
      @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC  Год назад

      MATHS is open-ended and highly non-prescriptive in terms of its musical applications. That is to say, it does not "have a sound" and it is not oriented toward any particular genre or concept of music. Perhaps more importantly it is a module, a part of a larger system, rather than an instrument in itself. You will see MATHS in some sort of use in almost every video on our channel, some of which are more traditionally musical than others. One example that might be useful is the "Eurorack Ambient" video in which MATHS is utilized for envelope generation, LFO, attenuation, and mixing, but is not the primary "star of the show" so to speak. This is more often how MATHS is used in patches by most people than in being the centerpiece. ruclips.net/video/2q0f3gq65Z8/видео.html

      @@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC hey guys, thank you so much for your response. I appreciate it.
      I understand your answer and what you are saying, but I don't think you are understanding my request.
      When you demonstrate your products, can you demonstrate them in a musical sense instead of demonstrating them in a sound effects sense.
      If you struggle to make musical sounds with your products, I'm not sure what good they are, because I'm trying to make music, not noise...

    • @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC
      @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC  Год назад

      Thanks for your reply! I don't agree that we struggle to make musical sounds, or that we are not demonstrating our instruments musically. If you can tell us what you mean by "musical" then I would be happy to provide some links to videos that might be closer to what you are looking for.
