Solar panels are common in the Netherlands. Learn from us. Farms here have it on their stables. They even produce so much, people in nearby towns "hire" panels to get cheaper power. Benefit for city people: lower costs, benefit for farmer: in a few years the panels paid for themselves, and the rest is profit! And you get more interactions with your locals.
I've had panels since 1995 here in Aust. None have yet paid for themselves. So much so, I'm not sure I'll persevere with them. Without subsidies I would have given up ages ago, so I feel sort of guilty stealing back my taxes under false pretenses.
The report and video on the DEFRA meeting will definitely be one to watch! I just hope Harry can talk some sense into them.
Absolutely, Harry talks alot of sense. Hope they listen.
@Paul Fellows true but only if they listen and take into account any feedback or criticism made, I maybe a cynic but the majority of the time they seem to discuss things speak to farming groups, media and the public who it point out issues only to ignore everyone and steam roller on leaving more frustration in their wake
The stone walling is an art. I love it.
Craftsmen at their best.
Maybe a co-video of Wenham Young and Galeb from Jeremy! :)
Gerald give him a ring he will be round to fix your wall :)
Good video Harry
I'm not a farmer but it's surprisingly interesting finding out what goes into growing crops and running a farm
👌👌🚗🚗😀
I have been watching your channel for around a year now. I am amazed at the vast variety of skills and knowledge needed to be 'a farmer'. Custodians of the countryside, and yet so misaligned by the government and the press.
Your channel should be required viewing in schools for secondary aged children.
Agreed!
What on earth made you think that stupidity was a necessary trait for successful farming before you started watching this channel. Terrible judgement when it comes to politicians, definitely, stupidity with land and productivity, probably not, 😂😂😂😂
Excellent suggestion about the schools 👍
I hope I won't get them into trouble but my son attends the RAU doing a rural land management degree and his tutor used a bit of Harry's Farm footage as a good example of something they were learning about. He texted me saying "We're watching Harry's Farm!"
Re.Hedge management - that tall hedge that had just been flailed would be ideal to be laid in the regional style.Check out the National Hedgelaying Society.
Most hedges don’t produce berries as they are cut too hard.A late winter light trim or alternate year cuts would benefit as most berries are produced on last years shoots.
Harry, I'm so impressed with the way you not only use the land to grow food but also the way you manage the land with all of the other work you do on it.
So DEFRA have got in touch. They couldn't have picked someone better to talk to. Hopefully they'll listen to what you have to say.
They're not for listening they're for lecturing and controlling.
It’s a very positive sign that DEFRA have approached you. I hope they will listen to you with an open mind and that this a serious consultation. If it is, we’ll done DEFRA. The approach has only occurred of course because of the quality of this channel. Your experience and expertise must impress anyone who watches your videos. I am an urban dweller but am very grateful to you for educating me in the importance of farming, the methods you use and the problems you face.
Oh my, is Gerald going to do the dry stone walling?
Sign me up for some comedy action 😂
Lovely to see little Bull terrier on the farm.
So glad that someone at DEFRA has used some common sense and asked you to give your opinion and knowledge on the direction we should be going 👍
Great video Harry, as a fellow farmer good luck with your meeting with DEFRA we need someone like you to tell them what it’s like at the sharp end, trouble is they already have an agenda and are sleep walking this country into a food shortage sometime down the line.
Great to see so many hedges and rough corners of land. The farms where I have permission on have pulled so many hedges up over the years for these big tractors with gps systems. I have noticed the grey partridge population have really dropped .
Well done Harry for getting Defras attention, you have always to me spoken more sense about farming and land management than just about anyone else out there. Let's hope they listen.
I'm kinda impressed that Defra reached out - they didn't at all have to do that, but it could be an awesome move on their part of they're able to better explain the logic to Harry
Where did he say this ?
I must’ve Missed it
@@alanpatterson2759
No
I’m not kidding
Why would I be kidding ?
I didn’t hear any mention of an communication between defra and Harry 🤷♂️
@@twoeyedbob it's in the first minute or so
@@robdavy4468
Dunno how but I somehow missed that but
Ta 👍
Thoroughly enjoyable and informative twenty minutes. Thank you.
Now addicted to farming
Thanks Harry
Thanks, Harry for another great informative video. Keep up the excellent work!
Stanley looks like he is having a great life
Absolutely love the farm videos between Harry’s garage. The mix/pairing between your two channels is like a good wine and cheese.
Thank you Harry, another enjoyable educational lesson for us non-farmers. Good to see no sign of cabbage stem flea beetle although your Barley field is a worry. Keep up the great work.
Great to hear DEFRA has been in touch. This is democracy and appeal in action - well done Harry for beating the drum. Many are behind you.
Local farm to us has a pigeon plague on their oil seed rape. There must have been 200 that took of the other day. The plants look more advanced than Harry's and seem to be surviving the onslaught. Good to see Stanley out with Harry getting to know his way round the farm.
Harry please keep us posted on how Stanly is coming along and what antics he's been up to.
Interesting update as usual. Look forward to hearing all about the proposed new power generation.
Nothing looks better than a neatly trimmed hedge. Throughout my farming life, that was generally my job and one which I took great pride in. I too, rounded the top corners off. Thanks for another interesting video, Harry
I'm always intrigued by the stone wall part of the video. If there's time a quick update on the progress of that project would be much appreciated in upcoming videos. Thanks
This is a great idea !
Why don't more farmers explain what they're doing ?
It would certainly clear up a lot of misconceptions urban people have about farming.
We aren’t the best at communicating with people. We are an old fashioned industry
@@sandman8993 Agreed - I think people underestimate just how good Harry is as a presenter/communicator.
The videos are also to a high standard - note the continuity/story aspect: "...the problem crop is the barley ... let's have a look..."
@@michaelbarton4787 exactly. I wouldn’t know where to start. 😆 our milk company wanted some videos made of life on our farm and I’m not joking it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. Alien to me.
@@lukemallory7832 Harry really is one of a kind. He's into bikes and cars and has a gorgeous pup, plus he is so thoroughly likeable and his knowledgeable about all farming practices. I think the bee hives are fantastic.
@@michaelbarton4787 correct, Harry is an excellent presenter/communicator, im only too glad he is out there telling it like it is for urban folk to get an idea what farming is like because I certainly couldn't present and make videos like Harry can.
So educational, as Bib says, kids could learn so much about the countryside.
Look forward to the solar project Harry. Also really enjoy learning with every vid.
Very gratifying, reading other viewer's comments, to realise that this channel of yours is really helping people, long divorced from the land, to understand just what challenges our farming communities face! Both political and heaven sent! 👌😉😉
Love your videos Harry they give me a much improved understanding of what our local farmers are doing, and in some cases they could certainly benefit from applying your methods!
Credit to you Harry in the conservation you are doing You have some nice Hares I hope you don’t suffer coursers
Hi Harry, love the farm videos, so interesting with all the new machinery technology combined with fine old traditional walling and hedging. I’m an old Suffolk boy and grew up helping on farms and I’m in awe of your great scope of knowledge which you convey to all your fans on the videos. I still live in Suffolk and know of the estate fencing guy. A great fencing solution that will be more permanent. I also love the way you have your finger on the pulse of the DEFRA regs and I think when you get in front of them you’ll run rings round their nonsense. Ecologically I love the way you consider the consequences of your actions. As a matter of curiosity, how many people do you employ permanently, obvs there’s Stanley, VID ?
Really into Harry’s garage but I find Harry’s farm so uplifting and optimistic. Great stuff👍🏻👍🏻
Harry, you should be advising defra. We need to be growing our own food as much as possible.
Never did I ever think I’d be into farming like I am now,
I very much look forward to the next video Harry.
Many thanks Harry. Enjoyable and instructive as usual.
Another great video. Just watched it with my young lad and he's now keen to go and watch the entire back catalogue. Keep it up!
That hedge is about ready for laying great to see how good the farm is looking.
very informative, especially for a person like me who has been always curious as to what they grown in England
Very pleased someone at DEFRA is going to be talking to such a sensible ,articulate person such as you, Harry.
Another great video Harry. There seems to be plenty work in just keeping the boundaries maintained alone. Stanley is a great wee addition to the videos 🙂
Love that there are grants for traditional building practices
Love dry stone walling or as we call it in Scotland dykeing, it looks fantastic and last for years with little maintenance.
Love watching these updates.
Very interesting Harry, Farming seems to have an endless work program of repair or change just to keep it on track. Wish you good luck for 2022. Cheers Bob
Love these updates
Fascinating as ever. Thanks.
Looking like a good season, best of luck with your farm!
Super episode, good to see the crops doing well.
Interesting and informative and your sidekick is a likely looking fellow. Thanks. Take care. Be seeing you again.
Keep up the good work Harry, we do love watching !
Looking forward to seeing the new estate fencing.
Good winter video on the farm!
Thank you, Harry, some interesting and skilled work in prispect. Wonderful!
Really enjoy the update of what’s happening on the farm Harry, very interesting, please keep them coming.
Brilliant vid as always. Love the stone walls.
Great to hear about rebuilding the walls get rid of the hawthorn which is excellent fire wood
Nice to see Stanley out with you, enjoyed the video cheers Harry 👍🚜
Great video update Harry. Full of interesting informative content as always.
Thanks Harry, as informative as ever and looking forward to future episodes on the crops, dry-stone wall building and estate fencing
Great Stuff as always Harry, such an informative channel, thank you for the education.
Great catch up on the farm, look forward to your DEFRA interview
Very informative and intesting making for compulsive viewing - thanks Harry.
That Hawthorne will burn beautifully, lovely to mix with oak or ash, plenty of short lived heat to get the oak going nicely
I can't believe how much you manage (cars and farm) and make it look so easy. Thanks for the video. Cute dog by the way.
Good morning Harry, I really like your videos. By far the most interesting and educational farming vids on the net. I wondered if you might be able to answer a question for me about ploughing. Driving round the country I notice that people still plough some of there fields but you don’t plough any. Is this just to turn over non permanent pasture or is it to create a seed bed for certain crops? If you would be able to answer this question in one of your vids it would be really informative.
So great to hear Solar maybe on the cards again Harry 👍🏼 Can’t wait to see the next video and find out more!
Hi harry, farm will look amazing with stone walls repaired and estate fencing. 👍🏻👍🏻
As ever thanks so much. Carry on!
Always interesting informative and enjoyable thank you so very very much harry ciao
More of farm management, please!
I love English landscapes, rolling hills are so beautiful especially in this time of year.
That's a nice hat Harry. Well done 👍
OMW ---solar ---pv panels ---now that sounds exciting --that said just been on my hols in the OXFORDSHIRE COUNTRYSIDE, 100% with this video ..excellent.
The stone walling that’s been done looks really good and will hopefully last for several years to come. It’ll be good to see the metal fencing. I assume that it’s coated with something to prevent rust? I was never a fan of post and rail as it always needs a lot of maintenance and was no good at keeping horses in their paddocks! We used different types and sizes of wood but inevitably horses would find a way though the fence. They made very good scratching posts for horses!!
Great to hear you’re putting Estate fencing in Harry, I think it’s so elegant. You don’t see it that much in Gloucestershire but I love to see it around Warwickshire.
Nicely done
Good to hear defra are taking an interest Harry, will be very interesting to hear how you get on talking to them.
Yep.more Stanley please!😊👍👍
I have 3 mini bullies. Love to see it.
Doggo is having the best time!
I know so little about farming so this is really interesting, really enjoying your videos.
Almost 42,000 views in a little over 24 hours signifies content well worth watching. Harry's Farm should be compulsory viewing for everyone at DEFRA.
I watch Harry ‘s farm videos to see what Stanley is up to.🐶
Really interesting and informative as always - living on (but not involved with) an arable farm it reflects what is going on here
Love Harry’s farm
I love to see Stanley at the end. I hope he can end every video from now on.
Another nice video, Ive noticed over the past few years because of the milder winters, that the grass in my garden is still growing, to the point of bringing out the mower, I suppose this has the same effect with unwanted growth amongst your crops, although uncomfortable at times, a hard winter does help in stifling that growth.
The same here north of London. My neighbour cut his lawn yesterday and I will have to cut mine tomorrow as it has been growing significantly in January. We need some proper -4c to -10c heavy frosts to hold back the growth and also to help break up the clods of earth in my cultivated veg garden.
I love stanley!
Well done for rebuilding the walls if only more farmers would follow your example
Good update thanks Harry. Can we see the new doors on barn
Love to Stanley!!
Nice shot of the Hare Harry, the Woodpecker smells the Bees as a Magpie will smell the Bugs and Grubs when you lift a paving slab...
Would be interested to see the 'the bee lady' in action when the honey is ready.
Would like to see more on the stone wall.
Don’t know why this was in my recommended, but this was oddly satisfying to watch... gave me old Jeremy Clarkson vibes
Harry, looks like you're wearing a hat that Clint Eastwood would have worn in one of his westerns. Maybe Unforgiven? 😁
You got a bullie , cool . Good luck , hilarious and loving but super stubborn
Stanley!! ❤️❤️
Metal fencing is some thing from the past, used mainly arround stately homes. Where I lived the fence was removed during the 2nd ww
Yes they removed a lot of it for the war effort. A couple of large estates where I live put it back again after the war and its still in situ so it must have a very long life. No doubt it needs attention every few years to keep in good shape.
The pigeons here in North Yorks are particularly hungry this year and are making a real mess of the Rape on the farm where we live!
Even working in the survey industry I can’t believe how accurate farming positioning allowing a tractor to weed between rows.
The tractor that does the drilling on our farm is accurate to +/-2cm, which makes inter-row weeding on a field scale feasible.
@@harrysfarmvids I work with systems +/-10cm 100m underwater. RTK is the real shift in accuracy
Hi Stanley!
Stanley reminded me of our Boris who sadly had to be put down aged 12 .5 years
Thanks for that Harry, be interested in seeing the DEFRA video. I also watch the Farmer P channel and he's having problems with pigeon on his OSR, maybe he should try kites like yours. I'll suggest it.
The new fencing will look great, I did replace the missing fencing on my terraced house in Cheltenham and it improved the house no end. It did cost an arm and two legs though.
