It's kinda cool that you can end up taking the card you promised with Cruelclaw's Heist, since they draw before the spell resolves. I think that's how it works, anyway.
Yeah it does work like that. Also, this might be a weird take, but sometimes dedicated discard decks seem to “over discard” if you know what I mean, so you stop getting value from your cards because opponent’s hand is empty. And Heist allows you to feed them more cards, just to make them discard again. Like, imagine you have Liliana out, and opp has one card in hand, and you draw Heist. You gift a card then immediately get rid of both while getting their card, filthy.
@samsprague3158 As a Waste Not Player, I am all too familiar with the over-discard issue that arises. Geier Reach Sanitarium helps. While this exiles and doesn't trigger WN, I might test it out, or at least build a Standard variant with this.
@@samsprague3158That's only an issue if your discard deck needs to continuously discard the opponent's cards to trigger effects and make progress. Your opponent having no cards in hand should be enormously advantageous even if you still have extra discard cards remaining, since you have even more discard to use immediately once they get another card in hand. An opponent with 0 cards in hand while you've got 2 discard effects either in hand or on board effectively has -2 cards in hand unless they're instants/flash. Plus standard has plenty of cards that benefit from your opponent's hand being empty for any reason, like Aclazotz and now Rottenmouth Viper.
One thing about Cruelclaw's Heist is that if you gift them a card, that card *could* be the one you end up exiling. They draw before the effect occurs. So, worst case, you can just take the best card rather than what might work best for you. Not as ideal as turning their cards against them, but it's not a terrible trade to make.
One thing to note about Azure Beastbinder is that its a Rogue as well as a Rat, which means its an outlaw and benefits from the "outlaw matters" stuff from Thunder Junction. Also its attack ability targets and thus counts as committing a crime, so it can be a repeatable crime enabler for stuff like Vadmir or Magda. It might have a home in some sort of Dimir/Grixis Outlaw/crime deck.
Also of note with Cruelclaw's Heist, if you topdeck it late game and they have no cards, you are really just drawing a card off the top of their deck for 2 mana.
I follow A LOT of magic content creators on RUclips and as expected there are A LOT of Bloomburrow spoiler videos and quite frankly, it's a bit exhausting. Your videos are the only ones I'm watching. You're entertaining, have interesting takes on the videos and have a very relaxed and engaging style. Thank you and keep up the great content.
You missed something on Eddymurk Crab, in my opinion. Yes, it's technically a downside that the creature comes in tapped if you flash it in on your opponent's turn. You can make the argument that it can't block, which is rough. However, you tap down 2 creatures. If you flash it in before your opponent declares attackers, you take two of those out of the fight. In a weird, roundabout way, you can say Eddymurk Crab blocked 2 creatures, since it prevented them from attacking. I think this is why it does enter tapped - because if it didn't you could effectively block 3 creatures from the hand at instant speed, which is nuts, and probably came up in playtesting and they had to add the line of text later in development. Preventing attacks from two creatures is enough, in my opinion, and I think that's very valuable to help turn the corner against creature-based decks. The card has potential.
Aside from typing, the Beastbinder looks like an incredibly good card on curve in 1v1’s. It repeatedly nullifies their best card on the table, where the target can be switched, its almost always a free swing, can still block in return, and forces the question to your opponent: would you rather remove a 1/3 removal/tempo piece or would you rather remove the threat to your life total? Which, if they’re in that situation, you’re doing pretty good for yourself.
Stormchaser’s Talent is almost exactly the kind of card I’ve been wishing they’d print for a while. It’s a one-mana prowess creature that is also a noncreature spell that triggers prowess. Perfect glue for an archetype that sometimes suffers from drawing the wrong half of its deck because it can play double duty as an enabler and a payoff. I only wish the token was also a wizard.
The "old friend moves out and new friend who looks suspiciously like your old friend moves into their house" thing sounds like something we would see in Duskmourn
Choosing to headcanon that the Beastbinders are why the Phyrexians never invaded Bloomburrow. Being forced into silly forms, being lassoed by swarms of rats, and just deciding to earmark it for destruction when everywhere else has been converted.
The phyrexians wouldn't be affected by Bloomburrow's animal-folk forms. That only affects planeswalkers. Realmbreaker tearing open omenpaths ignores that.
