- These are Posters made using stacked layers of MDF that is painted using spray paint. I cut the shapes using my CNC router using a 1/16" diameter bit. Some of these files are available for download here - gumroad.com/l/...
Music is from www.bensound.com
Impressive. This makes me want to finish making my CNC.
I have a targeted marketing company.
These are awesome! Any tips for priming / painting MDF to get the best finish?
+Philip Butler - spray the edges first and then the surface, don’t be shy with the paint. First coat should be pretty heavy, after that dries for about two hours, hit with another medium coat starting on the edges first again. Wait for this to dry and then sand with 220 grit. The final coat should be in a back and forth pattern with a slight overlap, then immediately spray another series of rows at 90 degrees (perpendicular) to the last rows with the same overlap. This is to eliminate the tiger stripes you usually see when something is sprayed with a typical spray can. This is usually sufficient but if it’s not, sane with 400 grit and hit it again with a light coat. Hope this helps!
Indeed it does, thanks :D Did you do all the artwork yourself? Illustrator? Subscribing to your gumroad store and definitely plan on purchasing a design or two..
+Philip Butler - it is all either original or a mash up of images found online. I started with some existing movie posters like the evil dead and Star Wars, they turned out awesome but I didn’t do more than one each because of the copyrights. They are amazing in person, the pictures never translate that.
Awesome... What CNC?
+Chrocell I have a Gerber Sabre 408 that is fitted with a porter cable router.
Hi John, great work. what bits do you use to get such fine details without breaking the small pieces of wood?
andre Levesque - I use two flute 1/16” diameter bits. I buy them through drill bits unlimited. They are slightly used but they are cheap and they still have a lot of life in them.
