    Interesting things you are making with your cnc and mdf. I'd love to see a bit more of your process for working out the tabs, pivots, the little fasteners on the two hard cases and the assemblies overall. Looks like you have lots to teach us! Thanks for sharing.

    Hey John I am planning a teardrop camper and was wondering how hard this window is to put together. I am planning on using large portholes for the windows. This would be great on the inside for a sun shade. I do have a scroll saw. The portholes are 16 inches. Sorry I’m so late to the party. I was just wondering how hard this would be to make the right size. Thanks

    I'm about to buy this and was wondering, can I use a 1/4 inch mdf sheet? my local store only have 1/4 and 1/2? Thanks a lot for the information and have a nice day.

    hey, john … that iris is w-i-c-k-e-d ! who designed the plans? who programmed the software? the music was enjoyable too … non-invasive and rhythmic. five stars.

      Thank you! I designed it and did all the files myself. I used Sketchup to design it and AutoCAD to clean up the drawing and make the cut files.

      @@dannyboy4682 I've seen ones that have triple folding fins so it could be made a little thinner for the ring piece.

    This is incredible! I am trying to design a 12 bladed iris. Would it be possible to use your file and resize the blades to make it 12 instead of 8? Also did you have any resources you used to learn about blade shape and finding the right pivot points? I'm trying to design and troubleshoot those with fusion 360, but I am knew to 3D modeling. I picked a doosy of a project to start my dive into 3D modeling with lol

    Could you create a 16 leaf version with a bigger aperture to ring ratio using same style? I'd love to buy plans for that! There doesn't seem to be an actual way to contact you though, even to buy plans for this, and modify for different thickness as your gum page says you will.
    How does one contact you?

    why not have provisions for alignment pins for the blades

    Can the cut files be scaled up to make a larger iris? I'm looking at doing a dartboard surround and need the center to be large enough for that.

    • @johnhansen975
      @johnhansen975  4 года назад

      Yes. The files B can be scaled to whatever you want. On older projects I scaled it to a 6” opening and also to 36”! Worked perfect each time.

      @@johnhansen975 right on. Thanks so much! How hard would it be for someone with zero cad experience to do that. Lol. Any chance I can pay you a little more for files that are the correct size? Oreillym0@hotmail.com

      There is a place close to me (Washington State) called Continental Hardwood. It runs about $12 per sheet

    Good Day,
    I purchased your drawing and the blades in the video are different from the ones you have in your CAD file. the ones in the CAD file have a tail, also the joints look different, is there a reasons for it?

    • @johnhansen975
      @johnhansen975  6 лет назад +2

      Yes, there was small catch that I had while shooting the video that I fixed in the cut file, so I made that alteration. I also added a little tail to the blade to give it a little more surface for gluing to the arm. Hope that makes sense - sorry for the confusion.

      John Hansen actually I already Hit a Problem, did you use the metric System or the imperial System?

    • @johnhansen975
      @johnhansen975  6 лет назад +1

      Absolutely! I might not respond right away but I will definitely help out with whatever issue comes up.

    • @johnhansen975
      @johnhansen975  6 лет назад +1

      Imperial, the outside rectangle shape is 48"x96" for you to verify. I set the hole widths (the openings the cut parts fit into) to .220". If you are using a material that is thicker than the 5.2mm the cut file is set up for, you can uniformly scale the entire drawing. I suggest making a few test cuts in a scrap area to verify the fit before cutting all the parts.

    Hello, I purchased your drawing because I want to make an Iris about 8 feet tall so people can enter through the hole. I would probably need to cut it in a 3/4" MDF sheet so i should modify the file. However the bit I'll be using would be 3/8", will there be any problem with it? Should I just resize the file and that's it? Also, are the numbers useful, the pieces don't seem different. Thank a lot!

    • @johnhansen975
      @johnhansen975  6 лет назад

      +Codex Escape Games If you uniformly scale all the parts you should be fine with the figment. The wear surfaces are another story. 3/4” MDF is heavy so you might want to change from simple axles to bearings. It will open and close a lot smoother and last a lot longer without squeaks. Also, you should be good with it’s operation with the heavier blades because they all counterweight each other. Good luck on this, I would love to see pictures!
