      Honestly a lot of people over think. People come to me and want a fully custom website because they think their personal brand is completely unique. But they honestly do not need it. I’ve had people in similar situations, and unfortunately I had to turn them down as clients

      @@uxblueprint completely agree with your point. In many cases of mine, clients aim for highly customized websites, but they haven’t even developed a unique brand identity. Often, the designs they request don’t align with their vision. In my experience, what they actually need is a website that focuses on improving user retention, get attraction on SEO, speed to be optimized, etc. rather than something overly sophisticated.

      Hey Sam, glad to hear from another UKer. No I don’t have a course yet. I did put the current UX course for king’s college together but that’s more focused on getting into UX industry rather than web design business.

    • @uxblueprint
      @uxblueprint  5 месяцев назад +9

      You'll need to approach this differently. Figma and Framer are specialist tools, and you'll be engaging with tech clients mostly. The best way would be to position yourself as a freelancer at first and look for companies who are seeking for UIUX designers. Because a Figma design serves no purpose to a small local business if no websites are produced from them.

    Love how you explained and made things sound very simple, just a question:
    How do we price the hosting? Is there a general rule of dumb? Would the price of hosting include any extra work that the client request on a whim or is that more of a 1 time charge as edits arise?

    • @uxblueprint
      @uxblueprint  5 месяцев назад +2

      To be honest, you can charge whatever you feel comfortable. If it’s a simple website, I charge 2-3x the price of hosting. You gotta factor in that maybe once or twice a year issues may happen. I don’t include edit, because I find it makes clients want to do monthly changes for no reason as they want to make use of their 1 edit quota.
      You can up the price if you want to provide added service like printing out an analytics report every month.
      If it’s a complex website, you could hand it over the hosting and charge them if things go wrong, this way it’s worth your time fixing the problem.
      I know someone who charges 10x the hosting but for me that’s ripping someone off too much coz realistically you’re not going to be interacting with the site that much.

    Brilliant video, really helpful. I have been on and off designing sites for friends and family for a few years now and never really pushed to do it as a side Hussle / main job. I wanted to know what your opinion on naming your freelance business is? I see so many different business names and I'm not sure what to go with.

    • @uxblueprint
      @uxblueprint  Месяц назад +1

      Arr nice. It’s pretty much how I got started, doing them for friends and then recommended to local businesses. It’s surprising how even though to you, it seems so simple, yet so many people can’t/don’t have the time to do it. And that’s where there’s a massive opportunity for people starting out.
      In terms of naming freelance business, I think go with some easy to remember but still relate to your niche. For example my design business is called AX Blueprint, it’s AX is a mix of my name and UX, and blueprint is just a cooler word than design. Don’t go with something complex or hard to remember. For example I know people who’s called their business G2YWS, no one is gonna remember that.

      @filetmignon9978 4 месяца назад +3

      @@uxblueprint depends on what you mean by Wordpress. Wordpress can be headless custom code, or builders like Elementor and Divi. And lets be honest, those solutions are basically at the bottom of the difficulty rankings. To use Webflow you need to know how code works. Otherwise anything you build is a dumpster fire. You're literally building the frontend code structure. That's not something you have to worry about with most wordpress builders at all.
      As someone that uses WP professionally and builds in Webflow as well, I can confidently say that Webflow isn't "easier" than wordpress. Especially to just learn. The learning curve for it is quite high.

    Hello Im 19 years old and Im looking to build a web agency. Came across your video and found it very useful thank you. Im looking to do this the hard way with a wordpress headless cms approach, using technolgoies such as React and JavaScript with tailwind css . I find using wordpress or Wix to build sites very limited and hate using the platform and in my opinion find managing code more easy and faster (sometimes). I want to be able to make the use of ready made templates and components first then onto custom designs. Whats your opinion on this and have you ever used this method of creating websites? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    • @uxblueprint
      @uxblueprint  4 месяца назад +1

      You need to think about your target audience. For example if you’re selling to a local hairdresser, building a Wordpress / react web site doesn’t mean anything to them. You’re more looking at high end tech clients if that’s your aim. In that instance the strategy outlined in this video wouldn’t work. You’re better off reaching out to recruiters who can connect you with clients who are looking for your particular type of skill.

    • @KC-bo1bc

      @@uxblueprint I will take in this advice and reconsider what services what I want to offer and my target audience. I definitely don't want to go for high end clients as Im fairly new to the business. I will probably look into customising static websites templates with Wordpress without the use of any unnecessary framework unless needed. Thanks.

    This is a very competitive business, with AI and the free site design companies out here.
    How can you compete with them ?

    • @uxblueprint
      @uxblueprint  5 месяцев назад

      at 4:43 I explain a bit about why someone would choose you over the free sites.
      In terms of AI, it's very primative right now. It won't be able to generate specifically what you want, in general it won't be able to provide specific copy, pictures and context for your business. So ultimately you will still need to fill out all the content on the web page. You'd be better off getting a template from website builder.

    Thanks for the video! Really curious about your pricing for web hosting. Do you charge each client a “retainer” for the website every month, a recurring charge of $1200 every year, or a one time fee? Curious (if on retainer) you limit the number of revisions a client is allowed to ask for over certain periods. Does your fee cover a single design process or multiple? Thank you!

    • @uxblueprint
      @uxblueprint  6 месяцев назад +9

      I don't like charging for number of revision, I tried this setup before but I find it makes the client feel like they need to do stuff for the sake of having 2 revisions and start asking you for changes for no reason. I want to have as little interaction as possible once I'm done and any further changes will require a fee. I'll only include "fixing" websites, which usually you can call squarespace and will get it done within minutes.
      The way I would structure a website would be give them 2 options (people like to have a choice):
      1. One off for £10,000, but you manage it all once it's completed. All hosting and domain I'll pass on to you. If there are any issues, you can hit me up my rate is £500 p/day.
      2. One off for £3,000, and then £150 p/month + £10 p/month if you want your own email domain. I'll manage the hosting and domain for you and fix any issues. I'll also give you a report of the SEO once a month (this is where you can send them the Squarespace analytics on site visits etc. This is often appreciated as they can see numbers) . If you require any changes such as copy/images it's £150 each update, please make sure you have all the correct information as I can only offer 1 revision if mistakes were made from your side.
      I also charge VAT as I'm over the threshold, so something else to consider once you start scaling. If the client is also VAT registered then it's £10,000 + VAT = £12,000. Some businesses might be a on reduced VAT which is 5%. Once you scale up to VAT threshold it's easy to manage. I rarely work with non-VAT registered business now a days as it just shaves 20% off the top.

    I just recently strated learning Webflow, how much do you recommend I price my packages on Fiverr?

    • @uxblueprint
      @uxblueprint  Месяц назад +2

      It heavily depends on your skill level and where you're based. I haven't used Fiverr/PeoplePerHour for over 10 years because as someone based in the UK. I can't compete with what others from India is charging. And also starting out now, it's very hard to get ranked unless you offer a cheap solution. However what you can compete with is being local and offer simplicity. What you'll find is, many potential clients, if they don't have the capacity to learn webflow, then they're likely not going to want to manage the website on the long term neither. So although I can't give you any recommendation on pricing, I'd recommend just reaching out to local businesses, you'll likely have better success.

      I've been doing this since 2012, not watched her content but we are both definitely using VidIQ to come up with video ideas, and title suggestions. You'll probably see hundreds of people doing the same content with the same video title. Just depends on whose information you find more useful i guess :)

      Do your own too... that's so wrong of you. Coming to someone's page to say they're copying someone, copy someone and start your own too 🙄
