  • Dynamite Headdy (Genesis) All Bosses (No Damage). Dynamite Headdy is a funny platform game by Treasure (Gunstar Heroes, Alien Soldier, etc.) for Sega Genesis / Mega Drive. It's japanese version of the game with english translation patch, because the original Japanese version of Dynamite Headdy was altered a lot before it was brought into the west (i.e. U.S. and Europe): some bosses were changed, some dialogs were cut off, etc. Boss list (japanese names):
    00:27 Boss 01 Maruyama
    01:24 Boss 02 Bounty Boundy
    02:48 Boss 03 Tail Hanger
04:10 Boss 04 Marrio & Netton, Jacquline Dressy
07:14 Boss 05 Rebecca (Creepy Doll)
    07:57 Boss 06 Motor Hand
    10:05 Boss 07 Mitsuru
    13:28 Boss 08 Yayoi & Izayoi
    16:39 Boss 09 Taro
    17:37 Boss 10 Rever Face
19:18 Final Boss King Dark Demon

Oh I get it. Maruyama is the oposite of Dynamite Headdy.
Istead of Maruyama changing his face (as Dynamite Headdy does) he changes his body.
For some reason I'm blowned away

This game has both some of the most crystal clear voice samples I've ever heard in a Genesis game and some of the weirdest imagery and boss fights I've seen in a 16-bit game. It's an odd circumstance.

I love this game. Something odd happened to me years ago, and I'm gonna give some context. Hidden in the stages there are THINGS you usually do or Things you destroy that earns you Secret Points, and there's a voice that usually says "You got a secret bonus points" each time you do it. Killing this little guy there is a wat to do it. If he shows up, you KNOW that if you defeat him, you Will get a secret bonus, and sometimes he even shows up in the middle of boss fights. And then At the end of each level, there's a moment in which your score shows up in the screen, and there's a line which says "Secret Points: X/X", which would show how many of the secret points hidden in a stage you actually found and got, and how many you didn't find. It was kind of a side quest I always liked to do.
Well, once I was playing this game and there's a boss of a stage called Wooden Dresser (the 3rd in the video), which is sort of a giant yellow robot who keeps assembling himself with parts of thematics things, and then you need to hit the parts he's wearing so you can then attack his heart. Well, if you waited long enough, or at least I thought so, he would eventually dress as this baby-thing I mentioned earlier, you would hit him, gain the Secret Point and then you could finish the level. Well, there was this one time I waited a LONG TIME just hitting the parts the boss was wearing, dodging the things the boss threw at me without actually hitting him so as not to accidentally finish the stage (I'm talking about at least 10 minutes doing this), when this special bonus point situation finally happened. I knocked the baby thing, got the secret point and when I was about to finish the level, the Wooden Dresser boss jumped out of the screen, like he usually did when he was about to wear something different, and then AGAIN showed up wearing the baby-thing! I was Shocked when this happened! I defeated him for good and in the score screen the game Actually showed the Bonus points like 9/8, which meant that I found "9 out of 8 hidden ones". I honestly never ever could manage to do that again, in the many Many times I played the game again, and I never found a single thing about it on internet, but I know for sure that it happened and that I'm not fabricating this memory just because it shocked me so much.

    • @MarioFan587YT
      @MarioFan587YT 2 года назад +17

Interesting that you would find that. This is actually a pretty well known thing, and if you do it along with all the other secret bonuses in the game, you can get 40/39 on the ending screen. It's pretty amusing.

It's theoretically possible to get infinite bonus points this way provided you don't die and have an insane amount of patience because of how rare the Bino costume is (IIRC it only can appear once the Robot is beaten and before it cycles back to Dragon.

Three of his bossfights were cut (his encounters in 5-2 and 6-2. I can also understand why 9-1 and 9-2 were cut since the "boss fight" is more so survival based, but it does play his boss track. ) A lot of other boss/minibosses were cut, including Sparky, Snake Eyes, and Sky Battleship.

And even so, cue all the other softhouses like Capcom, Konami, et al, milking long-running series with sequels and overstretching a plot as thin as possible until nobody could stand them anymore, and so on and so on for years to come until present day...

Aah,there it is!Absolute masterpiece! If you wanna see the absolute pinnacle of boss fights look no further than this game!We are talking about some of the most creative boss fights in gaming history:
Spinderella-a boss that can change the player's view of headdy for a semi 3d effect(and the music is just...I have no words)
Twin Freaks-a boss where you are constantly flipping the screen upside down, and he changes his attitude and appearance according to the side of the screen.
Baby Face-a boss that "ages" the more you damage it.Start as a baby, the goes to a young man, then to a middle aged man,and finally to an old man!Absolutely ingenious! And all phases have different attacks. The "old man" form dies "of old age" if you wait enough!
They cannnot make bosses like this anymore! The more limits you have with the hardware the more creative it pushes you to be.And thus some truly ingenious things are born! This game is a definite proof of that!

    • @hexidecimark
      @hexidecimark 7 лет назад +4

This white t-shirt is not rose. Please stop saying it is, and take those silly glasses off.
The generic garbage of today works far more often than the garbage of old, looks better, and most times, it also plays somewhat decently.
We have much more varied games, with RPGs embracing more new mechanics, more genres,
We no longer have to deal with games that don't work at all from mainstay devs, we don't have to fight nonfunctional controls, and we don't need to deal with companies censoring games to remove all references to drugs, alcohol, 'bad' words, religion, sex, Japan, &tc.
We can play games across the entire planet, design them on the fly, and with very little capital (if any at all) beat a AAA dev team in sales WITHOUT bending our knee to a publisher.
But no, the days when all the text in a generic RPG was bastardized by bible-thumping literal translators, and the graphics in a game were altered to protect people from Japan, those were better. It was much nicer when most games were shit-tier platformers with laggy controls and no save mechanic. And who could forget all the times when lack of memory would lead to single-hit deaths in nearly every case, or Hydlide's healing, that almost all the modern FPS healing is based on?

The state in which todays mainstream gaming is is "lack of personality" for a lack of better description. We are bombarded with SO generic crap that comes annually,I'm talking about big publishers like the cancerous Ubisoft or Activision.Stakes have never been higher, todays big games cost hundreds of millions to make and they can never risk that much money for something innovative or even remotely new or interesting. They just polish the same game and sell it to us every year.Look at Far Cry 4,then Far Cry Primal(although I'haven't played them, I am sure this is just Far Cry 3 with different skins and slight changes).Change in todays gaming is a taboo topic no one wants to discuss.
I don't want to put my nostalgia glasses but I gotta tell you,old school games just had charm that most of todays games can only dream of!And why would they, they don't care about it at all, they just want to be on the surface, because if they sink, even a little bit they are dead. The gaming industry is eating itself and I hope it won't crumble upon it's own weight.
Old school games were made for gamers, todays games are made for everyone.Let's face it,most of the gaming crowd are casuals,so the publishers have to make sure they dumb down their game in order to sell even remotely good. This thing hurts todays gaming so much that,at one point it becomes pointless.
Back in the day censorship was primary a Nintendo trend,so I guess you judge everything from your SNES perspective.SEGA rarely censored anything, and that wasn't a topic at all.
Also, limitations makes you think out of the box and makes you create really interesting and original things that outlive their time, such is the case with Dynamite Headdy, for example.Today, they just fill their free roam map with the most generic chores a developer can think of,slap some collectable achievements associated with them, and call it a day.
Seriously, why every single game has to be open world these days. And why a game is measured if it's good or not by how big it's empty boring map is.Open world games rarely have a level design, hence a GOOD level design.Name at least 5 new games that have at least decent level design,I dare you! Also, name at least 5 bosses in todays games that are more memorable and creative than these in the video!

    • @hexidecimark
      @hexidecimark 7 лет назад +5

The AAA releases are such a small portion of the available games though.
      As for SEGA, they censored:
      -Phantasy Star 4
      -Streets of Rage
      -Dynamite Headdy
      -Landstalker
      -TIme Gal
      -Stormlord
      -Golden Axe Warriors
      And more!
As for games with good LD:
      - Axiom Verge (Design uses very creative elements that make you think about your items)
      - Dark Souls 2 (Fantastic level design with variation that keeps you thinking and looking)
      - XCOM: Enemy Unknown (say what you will about the thing *working* it's got great levels, also I feel like most of the bugs are caused by the publisher)
      - Pit People (Sure, it's a TRPG. You got a problem with that?)
      - Portal 2 (The game is basically nothing but level design)
      Bosses better than DH:
None, these are top-tier bosses. Let's be real, you can only find equals at best. And most of those equals are like, in Klonoa.

This is one of my favorite games of all time. I always loved the colors, the playability, the stages, bosses and creative enemies we had to face. I played this game so many times, a whole lot of times indeed, but I could never finish it. In reality, I could never manage to get pass the Gate Keeper in his "berserk" form. I simply could not manage to beat it, because his attacks were too fast and had a ridiculously high range. It was just too difficult for me at the time. However, one day I was playing with a friend and managed to get to this boss, but I had already lost basically all my lives, and I was really tired as well. But since this was Actually my last opportunity without getting a game over, I put all my heart into fighting him. The problem was that I could barely hit that boss. It would always defend my attacks, I would instead hit Heather instead, it would start jumping and moving his wipy-like arms really quickly around him like crazy (and the hitbox of those arms Always managed to hit me no matter how much I tried to dodge)...
But on this one time in particular, when it stopped spinning his arms, it aimed for a single shot at me in a corner of the screen and I jumped to dodge. What happened was that his arm went below the screen, and for my OUT OF THE BLUE SURPRISE its hand simply catch Headache (I think that's his name), that Headdy's friend that generates the power-ups. It was REALLY WEIRD seeing him there in the middle of the fight all of a sudden, just being grabbed by the boss like that from outside the screen. But the thing was, one of the power-ups he was switching between was that bomb which Headdy "plants" on the field, and has to wait a LOT OF TIME for it to blow basically half the enemies in the screen. I managed to hit Exactly that power up, threw the bomb, ran througout the screen for what seemed like an eternity really injured trying to avoid being hit, and Just when the Berserk Gate Keeper opened his hands to throw fire on the ground and became vulnerable, the bomb exploded and he actually died instantly. I CANNOT DESCRIBE MY EMOTIONS WHEN THAT HAPPENED. In that moment I was so in shock that I didn't even try to get all those things that explode from the bosses so you can "YOU GOT ANOTHER TRY!" I just stood screaming in shock.
I honestly started to think that this was actually the Required way to beat the boss, since I could never manage no beat him anyway else (years later I would prove myself wrong, of course). After that I could for the first time advance on the game, and had many other moments full of emotion and adrenaline. I just will never forget that moment of despair, hope and, well, Dumb Luck that me and my friend experienced while we beat that boss for the first time. That honestly never happened again in the many, many times I played this game, and it remains in my memories as one of those moments in which something that really should not be happening at the point Happened, and I could use it for a win.

Also Maruyama is way better in the japanese version, in the japanese version he has a team rocket/doofinshmirtz vibe going on for him while still being able to be a threatening nemesis meanwhile in the american version he's just a generic edgy bounty hunter who doesn't even have the bad-ahzery to back it up.
