    Nice review. I have owned a ‘15 Cayman GTS for 3 years as well. Mine had 14xxx mile on it when I got it. I now have 49xxx on it. My wife and I took it on a 5,700 mile road trip the summer after I bought it. We drove from VA to Denver, out to Vail, and the down through the 14k ft. mountains through Ouray, the Million Dollar Highway, to Santa Fe, West TX, Houston, New Orleans, Atlanta, and back home. It is amazing how much stuff you can fit in the two trunks if you use soft-sided luggage. I change the oil twice as often as recommended and do recommended maintenance at a local independent. I have had no issues with it. I have done several track days at VIR, but it is not my primary track car. As you said, it does great in the snow with winter tires. I don’t drive the summer tires below 38 degrees if at all possible. Keep up the good work.

      The overly frequent oil changes are an under recognized necessity not just in Porsche’s but all cars. When oil is a little dirty it’s dirty. I change my 2002 bitter every 3k on the spot. I give the used oil to my crazy neighbor who uses it for his old truck.

    I never want to give up my S2000 but I deeply respect this car for most of the same reasons I respect mine. In fact, if I wanted a coupe it would be the only contender. You have a perfect color combo and you're absolutely right about the base engine bring all you need for the teal world. Love the wheels too. This special a car for this kind of money of where it's at, and with no frippery. We need more case reviews like this out there.

Called the dealer day before to make sure car was still for sale and he said yes it was. But day after driving 2 hours and taking one ferry to get there the dealership was closed... And after waiting all day we got a call that the car was sold so no test drive. Typical my luck... Porsches is exstremely rear here where I live and nearest Porsche dealership is 850km distance.

  • @lesmurray2000
    @lesmurray2000 5 лет назад +3

    I would counter your statement about the Bose sound system. Reason - the PCM on these older Porsches are miserably out of date. The Bose sound system is a fiber optic system where the Bose amp converts those light signals into electrical signals to the speakers. When you go to upgrade your head unit, the Bose system adds around $300-$500 to that expense. You either have to replace the Bose amp with a regular amp or you will need a conversion harness that connects your new head unit to the Bose amp. The cost is about the same either way. This does not include upgrading the speakers if you go that route.
    I would also add that if you can make the stretch financial-wise to an S model you should get one. These platforms take additional power very well because of how well balanced they are. I replaced my S engine with a 3.8 L Carrera engine and now I get all the power of a 911 Carrera with the balance and handling of a mid-engine Boxster. Win-win.

    I had a debate in my head if to chose the Cayman or the toyota GT 86 / FRS/ BRZ but i may chose the GT 86 becouse of better reliability, cheaper insurance, back seats wich can fold down so you can carry a set of tyres.. In two days i'll go for my first drive with the gt86, holefully i'll have just as much fun as I had with the Porsche, in all other aspects the GT 86 beats the Porsche, but i have to admit the fun factor will be hard to beat!

      GT86 is a great car. Can’t blame anyone for picking it over a Cayman. I think it just comes down to personal preference and what’s available in your market.

    I agree with everything you said. Especially about American sports cars being to large. Large sports car are just not as fun as a small fast car you can throw into a corner. Carroll Shelby had it right with the cobra V8 in a small light car. I want to buy an American sports car but they refuse to make a sports car that's smaller than a Cadillac so I'm looking at a Porsche.

      Well I have had mine for about 8 months and daily it to work. I have had two major oil leaks where I have lost all my oil (AOS) about $300 repair. 987.1 model just like his. Bought at 98000 miles and am at about 102000 miles. With that said, it is an awesome car and I am really wanting to get a 987.2 model or 718 where they have apparently fixed some of these issues I am having.

    • @zacharykassner9002
      @zacharykassner9002 5 лет назад +1

      @@ajstewart5555 Well first I'd like to fix my first comment on the $300 repair (I apologize for my mistake). I looked at the receipt and was reminded that was just the labor. I haven't been to a dealer so I can't compare their prices with the local mechanic I take it to so I don't know if I am getting the best price yet. For the Cam plugs and Oil/air separator the Parts cost $189 and the labor was $312 so a $501 repair. Oil change was $144. They charged $94 for oil and filter and $50 for labor. So all together around $645 plus tax. It has had another leak a month later, and they said it was the other Cam plug that came off this time. They said they found excessive pressure in the crankcase and they are trying to determine what is causing it. I will let you know how that bill comes out when I get it. I came from a 2005 Chevy Impala. I want to recommend the Porsche Cayman so bad because the 8 months of driving experience from it hands down beats 6 years of boring Chevy ownership (transmission finally blew). But yeah, so far I am losing money for sure :(. Like I said though, if you can spend the extra money and go for a newer model that may be the way to go because I think they have sorted out some of these older engine model issues that I am having. Also I payed $16000 for mine in case you were wondering.

    • @zacharykassner9002
      @zacharykassner9002 5 лет назад +1

      @@ajstewart5555 So all is well again with my Cayman. The second leak ended up being the vent valve that they installed last time was defective and was not opening allowing the pressure to escape which caused my right cam plug to come out. The part was under warranty so all I had to pay for was the new oil and the right cam plug. They waived the labor costs. Total was $52.
