I Will not abuse a child never in my life
A reason I think they nailed this is because Isaac, even though he's heavily abused and hates his mother, still clings to her. She's all he has, even if she's horrible - any ounce of good left in that monster is all he gets. That's horrible. I really pray for children in situations like these.

I really don’t see the mother as horrible more just hysterical and upset. She had a husband who steals from her and after trying to desperately get him back on track through God he ends up leaving her it very clearly scarred her and since she has a son she can’t help but see her husband in him seeing her drawn like that by her kid must’ve felt like no one likes her and even her own kin sees her as a monster. She obviously isn’t the best mother she can’t control herself and is clearly not mentally there but she does love Isaac and I think she was more disappointed and confused on where she went wrong.

@@chokabitch9342 she's kind of the reason why Isaac's dad started gambling and went back to alcoholism, she racked up credit card debt and he's trying to gamble to pay it back, he was a recovering alcoholic and the stress from gamble losses drove him back into drinking, seeing how Isaac views him better than his mother and the fact that he taught Isaac how to use his imagination indicates that he at the very least tries to be the best father he could. Since he went through a traditional Christian marriage, it is likely that he was raised Christian but going off the fact that there were a lot of technology related items and the fact that he's confirmed to be a handyman, it's likely that he could be a man of scientific beliefs and that contrast in beliefs is likely what starts cracking down their marriage.

@@kevintrang3007 i mean the shit he went through must be at least partly real but I myself believe there is no happy ending, because I'm pretty sure his father left and did not come back ever, he might've also commited suicide, seen some fan theories and it checks out that his dad would be the "shopkeeper" or "greed" with rope hanging around neck.
Also him suffocating in chest is kinda canon :s

This ending just broke my heart. Isaac sounds so innocent and young, and his mother is just so cruel. I teared up watching this.
The mother also had a bad experience with her husband. I can understand her pain,but it doesn't excuse what she's doing to her Isaac's mind. He's only 5,at this age kids are very sensitive and impressionable
This really is deeper than some people know. Issac (from his drawings) thinks a lot about his father, his mother doesn't, being called "just like his father" destroys his views of his father and makes him think bad about him sub-consiously. also the poor kid is having a panic attack at 5 years old, he really grew up in an abusive household

We were always told of how horrible issacs mother was in the opening cutscene, but this cutscene. Seeing and hearing it, well, it’s no wonder she drove him to suicide. The belittling and emotional abuse would break any child, add the religious stuff on top and issac’s mother literally calling him an actual demon. Isaac was doomed form the start.

It's not actually a peace sign, it's a nod to another demon Baphomet who is commonly depicted with this pose. I don't blame you for confusing the two but you can usually tell the difference by whether or not the index finger and middle finger are closed together (Baphomet) or separated (peace sign).

This hits me so fucking hard. My mother always compares me to my father for not being like her and for also resenting her, this leads to her insulting me and physically harming me. Thing is my father is working 10 hours shifts Monday thru Saturday so that he can pay the bills and my mother just blows through her money just to get drunk. Never going to be like her.

The best part here is the voice acting. It made the cutscene more emotional. For me it was an unexpected surprise
As much as an awful person she is, I can't help but relate to the mother. When I was younger, I was bullied so much to the point where I'd purposefully skip school just so I wouldn't get bullied. As time went on, I got shorter-tempered and more impulsive. It got so bad that I'd beat the kids up as soon as they teased me. But everytime I get upset and yell, I cry so hard because I knew I would get punished. I also keep comparing others to the kids that bullied me. But on a side note, things have been getting better.

hell, 'mother' is so vague that it could've just been completely unrelated to isaac's mom. the *early* versions of the boss (back in the antibirth days) was meant to be related to the gurdy line so it could've just....been the 'mother' of all the gurdys (yes, ik mama gurdy exists, he's 5)
@@2-Way_Intersection well, some linkage between this Mother and the other “mom” enemies is the fact it also calls out Isaac’s name when attacking. The clearest one is during the cross room wavy bullet attack, the head of Mother shouts “Isaaaaac!” and then spins around.

this honestly feels both upsetting and yet, in a way, comforting. I am verbally abused by my parents and I suffer from massive panic attacks because of it. It, on one hand, feels depressing that he had to go through this, but on the other hand, it feels almost like an outlet- a character going through something that I heavily relate to and can sympathize with.

He doesn't have a name. But the narrator is Isaac's father, he is the one who taught him to use his imagination to make himself stronger, sadly, due to the dogma within himself, and everything that happened, Isaac gave himself the strength to killing himself in the chest.

They’re all in the wrong or have major flaws in some way. You can’t blame one person for all of this. Unfortunately their story doesn’t end in a happy way but some days I daydream about a happy ending of Isaac at least where he gets to grow up and get therapy.

For people who dont know: The old Mother's Ending is that issac stabbed his mom with the knife, drop the knife and come close to his mom. However, when he come close his mother body started moving with glowing red eyes and then stand up. Issac, terrified by what he is seeing and then wake up and realize it was just a dream in the basement

Considering Isaac already knew what she was going to do with the closet, this likely already happened before. And this entire situration really was just the worst for him as the gimmick of tainted Magdalene(Also funny aside, that is Mom's name) is literally being injured and bleeding out.

It took me a few rewatches to see the little Easter eggs in the closet that Issac was thrown into. The D6, the Bible, and the coat hanger. The items that you pick up in the game! I think the chest is supposed to be an Easter egg too!

Ooh it's weird hearing Isaac's voice, so sad.
So this is basically what "really," happened, right? Isaac's mother freaks out and kicks (Mom is represented by her foot) him into the closet with his chest (though we see it in the middle of a room in some cutscenes so idk what to make of that) and he goes into his own head to try to cope with the traumatic experience, ultimately climbing into the chest and dying. Perhaps her prayers are part of what inspire his internal world to be so religiously themed as well?
I think the different endings are the different things he finds in the chest or closet. The less meaningful mom's heart endings are just him finding toys, but in later ones he finds the Polaroid or Negative, a note from his father, or in the case of Hush/Delirium ending he focuses inward on the experience of death.

I like how he looks in the cutscenes more than how he looks in the actual game
That makes sense since the sprites are suppose to be simple to allow it to be added onto while the cutscenes have more effort put into them
It's also sad to see Isaac's mother in this situation. Not saying she doesn't have fault in Isaac's fate but after Dad left them, and Isaac saw her as a monster, all she had left was religion.
Even worse is that she tried to get the dad on track with religion but he left because of that.
