"We often presume that our particular body type limits us from accomplishing some skills, and some physical, aesthetic goals. Is this true in the case of Bharatanatyam?"
    - Rukmini
The Raadha Kalpa Method is a comprehensive training program for Bharatanatyam devised by Rukmini Vijayakumar through her years of research on the mechanics of movement within the Bharatanatyam vocabulary. The philosophy of the training system lies in developing a neutral body and mind such that the dancer is able to be versatile and malleable within performance.
The program is primarily offered at the LshVa Studios, run by the Raadha Kalpa Dance company in Bangalore.
The online program is now offered on a streaming platform.
Subscribe to revitalise your Bharatanatyam and learn about alignment, injury prevention and developing strength, stamina, stability, articulation and imagination within your Bharatanatyam practise.

It is said that "The secret of BEING SMART is KNOWING what we are dumb at"! As long as we don't highlight our own defects and shortcomings, everything will be all right! Remember the Moon has managed to show to us only one side of her face since ages! We are still happy to see the moon!

If only cuckoos are allowed to sing, the jungle will be a very silent place.
Each Bird has its own sweet tune. It is the same with dance. Each dancer may have both assets and defects given by nature. One must learn to make the most of one's plus points.

Interestingly the movie amrapali seems to show ajatashatru as being very knowledgeable in dance. It would be great for ordinary people also to acquire knowledge of dance

Very few men aspire to becomeprofessional dancers but personally I am just interested in knowing individual dance moments ( being able to identify each dance movement and corealte it to the accompanying music) and then use this understanding to see how useful is the knowledge of dance in physical fitness. I have already seen few things explained in the wider context

Where would you advice a 21 year old adult who's never had any formal training, but has always been obsessed with classical dance to go to learn bharatnatyam? How do I find a proper school or teacher?

I do trust Rukmini Vijayakumar and I probably recommend her method, but I would just point out that being obsessed can be a limitation and that online classes are potentially more dangerous to the body than presential classes, specially if the same teachers are mantained or if we are talking about teachers of a similar level. Bharatanatyam is also a very demanding type of dancing for my standards. Rukmini pointed out that compared to ballet it seems to be compatible with a greater variety of types of bodies, and I would say bodies of bharatanartyam dancers in particular and indian dancers in general seem more healthy than bodies of ballet dancers. It seems quicker to get results at ballet if you have a matching body type, but I'm an outsider and never bothered to research deeply about the differences of kid ballet dancers and adult ballet dancers. It seems to me to be a kind of dance that priviledges bodies of kids, but I'm kinda sick of european things as of late and may be being biased.

Barathanarthyam and its link with spirituality seem to me to have turned it into a form of dance more compatible with a healthy body. Yoga and hindu culture have probably made a very positive influence on other forms of hindu dance in general, even though this influence has also bore fruit in other cultural productions elsewere too. Here in Brasil we are very multiculturalist and it is weird to learn about indu nationalism at times, but not enough for discourage me from learning from their traditions and culture.
