100% agree. Both are phenomenal, but I thought that Napom had the better performance, and that counter was dead on. Sometimes I think that former GBB champions almost have a harder time at GBB, because they aren't just competing against their opponent, they're competing against the incredibly high bar they already set. For that reason, I think judges score them more critically than other competitors. Either way, it's amazing that Napom was one vote away from winning a second GBB 6 years after his first win. No one else has even come close to doing that, which just lays bare what a monster Napom is.

Was great performances by both, however based on rivers first round. I felt like he just didn't lose the round but should've have been multiple points off. And then to top it off napom executed a perfect counter should've have sealed it. But I guess napoms last part was more memorable then both his rounds.

For me, if you can do a similar beat/sound but even better, it is a mind-blowing counter. If you can imitate the sound exactly it's a great counter, if you can do a similar beat but different sounds/in your own style still great, but even if you counter and it is only slightlyyyy worse than what your opponent did, to me it is still + points because you are showing you can basically do their beat in a simple freestyle in the moment. To me, it's like saying, I just learned what you did in the last 15 seconds, while you spent a whole year preparing this. So I think it's still good. If you try and don't get close, then yeah, that's minus points.

    • @Zoombiemax
      @Zoombiemax 2 месяца назад +2

Yeah but if it's similar and not the same and you say "it's EXACTLY the same" Then the plus points are away in my opinion. Lot of ppl are saying river was too stressed and napom was dominant but this sentence of napom cleaerly showed that he is too stressed bc he said that while he knows it's NOT EXACTLY the same

I feel the same way about NaPoM’s counter in the 2nd round because of how NaPoM messed around. I’m pretty sure NaPoM’s idea was that River’s shining moment in the 2nd round was nothing compared to him. I try to view the GBB rounds from all perspectives, including the sound itself, the frequencies, the pitching, and then the battling aspect between counters return and how everything is delivered. I solely think NaPoM should have won, but at the end of the day, it’s just a competition and they’re both great beatboxers.

    I agreed to you stitch
You and sxin gave me hope to raise up my voice
Thank you so much for the right decision
Your opinion is same as mine
One thing I have to add is that
Napom did 2 counters to river
    You know how
See the river technique at 4:58
Then you will see the napom second round at 5:58 in which napom also did it as a counter
And first counter of round 2 was the best counter
And another counter I have to say was that when river first round was musical
Napom also did it musical without mistake and his musicality shows that napom was battling
What to say more than this
Napom was clean and loud at the spot
When I was watching live I was crying after watching napom lost🥲but I thought that I'm such a noob in judging someone and judges are better than me that's why they're sitting there judging the battles
At all we all know no one is like napom coz he's so smart and competing since 10 years
I think none beatboxer did that
Napom is really a living legend
But in the last of the video the lovely part was when river was thanking Collaps and collapse come from his back and gave him a hug
More than this I like when napom was upset that he didn't won the final , Kenny was there with napom and was so happy when napom name was called as a second place
Waali also hug to napom instead of River as Waali inspired from napom
I love it so much I wish I would be there to hug napom❤❤

What you said about the counter part says it ALL! Only people really into beatboxing will understand the essence of a GBB battle, this is not a video, a production... this is a BATTLE! And with that counter, NaPoM won. Period. River round was totally dead after that counter.

11:40 I thought I was the only one thinking about that. Don’t get me wrong, I recognise it needs an unbelievable skill to do that and it’s normal in an atmosphere like the final to do such mistakes to keep the energy up. For me 100% clearly napom had won.
In first round he answered perfectly in a musicality way to fight the river's musicality in his first round, and he has done such a beautiful first round. Then we have the second round.... i love drop at 5:58, it' s so fucking amazing with a lot of energy, i have goosebumps everytime i listen it, and the counter was so functional and good and i agree with your explanations about the concept of counter. Do a counter with the own style is a great victory for me. The only one weak point of napom's second round was the final drop after the joke (very fit in that situation), very weak and with less energy and a little bit unconsistent. But overall, clearly Napom would have won this final. River so sick but many times in second round he's gone off pitch with arpeggio. And then, the singing voice in first part of first round didn't sound so well for me, on the other hand, the napom's singing in first round is so gangsta and pleasant to hear it.

I mean i still think Napom won too but i think the whole thing should be judged, not just the good/best bits. Those last 30 seconds from Napom really dropped a lot of points for me and i'm not surprised River won. Also in the case of Dilip and his elimination, i personally would rather have a consistently decent 4 minutes instead of a really good 2 minutes and bad 2 minutes. Every second should count and weigh into the final vote.

River won but don’t forget that it was a 3/2 not 5/0. It was a really closed battle.
I was not here lived so I could only based my judgment on the lived audio during the competition and this edited and mixed audio.
For me River won but if you have to scale it on 100 points it would be 51 for River and 49 for Napom.
For me Napom counter was not even closed to River because If you want to counter a beat/technic/combo you have to :
    - Do the same patern or a very closed patern
    - You can counter with your own patern but It have to be as good as the original and the same vibe / flow / energy
    - The counter must be on the same level of power, flow, clarity and cleanliness
For example nobody can really counter Napom on sub bass liproll or on his really fast liproll technic because Napom’s liproll is probably the strongest and the cleanest in the world.
Moreover Napom should have counter the liproll phase of River than his "fast spit nare" (idk if this is really that) technic, because River implemented vocal bass on the top of it !
That’s all I have to said and yeah BOTH could have won it.
And for the haters who are saying that the French guys voted for River (Napom said that too and I’m bit disappointed of him for that) two things : Gene votes for Napom and D-Low who is a much closer friend of River than Napom votes for Napom.
Nowadays in competition like that, when you are a judge, you have so much responsabilities and repercussions that you can’t just vote for someone because he is your friend.

I understand why people argue that Napom should be the winner; this is a really close battle, I know he bring power and much more energy but the decision ultimately depends on individual preferences. However I don't understand why some people say that River is overrated and doesn't deserve to be a champion.
If we look deeper, one reason why most beatboxers often lose in the semi-final or final rounds is because they run out of good routines or using bad strategy.
But River managed to reach the final two times in a row without using any recycle routine or repetitive pattern unlike to Napom who eliminated early rounds in gbb 2021 and be able to save many fresh routine to use in this year. I think we should give him more respect he is well-deserving.

I totally understand your POV. For me, River was the winner because he showed some new melodies and techniques that I really enjoyed. Yes, he messed up a few times. But Napom is remixing his old beats a lot and I personally don't buy it anymore. Still an amazing battle tho. I admire Napom for lasting over 10 years on top level. A true legend of beatboxing.

I hear this all the time about napom naysayers, but the thing is he has been battling for almost a decade. What do you expect him to do, make a new track every 3 months? Being able to remix one of your popular beats is a skill imo. Think about seeing your favorite artist live...You want to hear their new shit? Yes. You want to hear their greatest hits? Yes. Pretty simple. Overall, I think napom was the strongest battler in the competition and I dont think he got rewarded for it in the end. Still a great battle.

@@kyroDUDE it definitely is a skill and I respect it. It´s just a personal preference, I guess. I like listening to new stuff and ideas. Even though he remixes his old beat, it is still easily recognizable. Please, don’t find this as a disrespect to Napom, It’s just when I hear “roll like this” remixed for a tenth time, I don’t find it that epic. Hope you understand.

A lot of beatboxer do that especially when they’re not fresh on the scene plus judges only judge based on the current rounds not rounds from the previous year or from a completely different event

  • @TheFuriator

I always thought people take into account the whole conpetition when selecting the champion, not just the final battle. You could say Tomaz won vs D-Low in 2019, controversial but viable imo, but overall D-Low was the better contender that year, by far, owning quarters and semis. That's how I view it. Napom barely won vs Wing, arguably he stole the win. If you barely go through quarterfinal and semifinal, then win final hard, it's like eeehhh. Champion is more than just the final battle imo.

    • @stitch_mus1c
      @stitch_mus1c  2 месяца назад +4

nah I feel you have to judge the battle for the battle. You can't say "oh this guy barely won the semis, so that gonna affect how I vote for him in the finals". this thinking makes no sense, because WHAT IF said beatboxer had a stronger opponent in the semis compared to the final? WHAT IF he barely won the semis because he was saving for the finals? WHAT IF there are beatboxers A & B in the finals, but it seems like beatboxer B had a more difficult time getting to the finals because he had a more difficult bracket? There are so many reasons to why someone does better or worse in their previous rounds/battles. Thats why you should never take into account the whole competition when selecting a champion.

I mean, Napom didnt really need to win, we know who he is, what he can do, he just needed money to fix his chipped tooth, Napom still won the real battle, and i dont think anyone can prove me wrong, its even better cuz napom got his share from that huge 20k prize, so it was a win win situation imo cuz he fixed his tooth from the share he got from the prize, and i know for a fact hes not mad or upset he lost

People hear rivers new technique of Vocal Switching between falsetto and chest voice and go crazy for that arpeggio. But the fact is, it wasn’t clean. An arpeggio is AWESOME but like, rivers just wasn’t clean. Gene does these significantly better. Rivers technical side in his second round is what ALL his rounds should be. He would’ve deserved the win if he did that

In general, both of them have topped the charts to the point that it goes down to individual tastes and opinions. In my opinion, River brought a blend of artistic musical themes and emotions to his rounds, bringing his routines to life with his storytelling and was countering the lip rolls and the spit snares ,not as good as napom ofc, but he stayed in theme which is more impressive. On the other hand, Napom focused more on battling and was a little too over the place for me. His rounds lack structure and life, which doesn't please me musically. YES both are repetitive but napom is way more repetitive. Period.

To me River's 1st round doesn't have a battle energy/vibe he's entire routine sounds more like a showcase piece, whereas Napom went into a battle mode and hype the crowd with both of his rounds sounding full of energy and expression...I feel bad for Napom he got robbed twice in gbb finals.... Hope he'll come back stronger in the next gbb

100% on point with the counter, like why would Napom of all people need another technique if he can do the same with what he's known for, which is liprolls. Basically he took Rivers pattern and Napomified it. What's better than completely copying everything in a counter? taking something from the opponent and making it yours, Napom showed the level that we expect from veterans in the field and lived up to it, a battler to the core. As someone who's more inclined to musicality and slow routines, I would probably give the win to a good musically strong routine, but River tried to be too complicated and that cost him pitch and sound combination. In my opinion, his sound selection was very off and didn't work almost 40% of the time. You don't need complicated incomprehensive sounds to win, look at people like Codfish, Bigman, Gene and even you Stitch, good and well executed musical routines are always a W for me, that's why Im a big fan of Wing's style, his execution and musicality does the work every time.

In my opinion it was an obvious win for Napom. He was cleaner, more consistent, and more powerful. He had the counter and it was clear through their body language that he was dominating the battle and toying with River at multiple points. People bring up the end of his 2nd round as a low point, but I feel like that's a massive cope to justify River winning. LIke you say at around 16:16 everything he did before that was better than what River delivered but because he had one small bit that was sorta eh people are gonna disregard the entire rest of the battle lol.

Also if Napom didn’t have such a weak drop at the end judges would have had to vote for him he ended with a really weak drop in their minds. I would say when it comes to analyze a battle like this we need to put on top the complexity. Taking risk not always pays off but here clearly I value more what River tries to deliver compared with Napoms stuff.
And sorry, but the counter is not good. Kotcha to me is not a counter, they show a better version of a well known beatbox routine.
Then the routine in the second round is not well structured (i feel certain improvisation there).
Last but not least, I love Napom style BUT is more refreshing and catchy seen new talents with new sounds and not the same refurbished stuff.

I can understand your point, EXCEPT for the counter part. You said 'they show a better version of a well known beatbox routine', isn't that the point of the counter? To show that you can do your opponent beat in your own way?

@@stitch_mus1c not sure at all. To me a counter is a way to demonstrate you can do what your oponent is doing. I perfectly understand your POV but if I put both overlapped I will choose Rivers one over Napoms counter. I did not see improvement neither better quality.

He did the EXACT BPM and triple snares? What else is their to talk about? Its a battle right? So stage presence should of also played some points in a FINAL SURELY? Napom was legit grabbing every battle moment and running with it, I just don't see how we all can agree on winners some years but the judges always do some weird fishy stuff at the end. IDK.
