  • In this video, I continue to cull through my collection of photographs from my recent trip to Spain. In my first video, 'my photography is crap,' I sorted through what I thought were keepers. In this video, I start to do some basic post-processing and talk about the types of things that I look for in my own photography. Two vastly different titles in a couple weeks perfectly expressing the dichotomy that exists in all photographers.

    Tip for cropping I worked out recently... you can get the crop lines up, then go into full screen (f), and move the crop around with the arrow keys, which makes it easier to get the 'perfect' crop without the distraction of the rest of the image and the GUI.

    Very engaging video! I notice you don't use the tone curve much. I've recently started using it more, to start my contrast adjustment. Then I do the black/white point adjustments like you do. But the tone curve really gives a head start in that direction. Each to his or her own taste, of course. I always take away something useful from these videos. BTW "object selection" works really well on stand-alone objects with clear outlines, like that sea stack.

    when you think you've over done "little" - you can shift to "beetje" (like baytcha , ish...) that'll carry you through to one more use and make you seem even more international. (Dutch)

    Good video Adam. Ive not checked in for years, so forgive me. I still find it very interesting looking at yourself or people like Cornish and Ward who have moved from large format film to digital as I notice a quite big difference in their work all round.
    Philosophy has changed, and from what once were rather ridged principles have defo become more fluid.
    Getting it right in camera i still think has to be no1... but digital always gives you the ability to snap. Blending images is another that really wouldnt of been done in the film days, even though it was possible in some regard.
    Walking away from a composition is barely done these days with digital. Yes its great you can make a record, even GPS of a location for another time, but many take the image because they can..will convert to B&W or boost colour, change temp, anything to try and make something of an image that simply wasnt there.
    Im not saying large format film is better, i still shoot it, but i also shoot digital.. in fact im looking now at getting a GFX myself, but the old previsualisation and getting an image as close as what you want, has moved from in location, to the digital darkroom. Yes Ansel previsualised the final print in location, but he still had to record it correct in the right light etc.
    With the world of RUclips photographers, 99% of them i find their work boring and at best snapshots. Some have huge followers, but their work is quickly forgotten, its never stand out in my eyes.
    Id be very interested in seeing you go back to 4x5 over 2 months, and doing these videos, and seeing how many images you would take compared to shooting digital. 8x10 is now so expensive, its almost prohibitive.
    Creating content v creating great images must be a massive contention... not one Id like to have. You still photograph well and i enjoy your work, so dont take this negatively.

    Beautiful images and thoughtful processing, stripped to the necessary interventions - very inspiring, especially the photos of the rocks and stones. The last one is also very beautiful because of the atmosphere. Thank you ever so much, Adam!

    LOL Adam, just watched you on the Pubcast last night when you talked about this. That first image you processed, I saw so many animal faces in the rocks. Really enjoyed this weeks video showing your processing flow. I've finally taken the plunge into the subscription based LRC/PS. Had stand alone LR6 until this week so a new learning curve for me. Loved the last image.

    Hi Adam. Fantastic work as always. I was wondering if I could get your advice. As you I use the GFX system and I also use the Kase filters. I was wondering how you adjust for the various filter sizes needed to cover the GFX lenses. The last I looked I don’t believe Kase had all the step down (with magnets) for all the sizes. Has that changed? Could give you an email if you prefer to continue the conversation that way. Thank you

      Why not just contact Kase? (not trying to be obnoxious, only helpful).

    • @QuietLightPhoto
      @QuietLightPhoto  7 месяцев назад +1

      your best bet is to contact Kase directly, Kase UK kasefilters.com/ should have what you're looking for. I use step down rings. The 20-35, 45-100 have 82mm threads. The 100-200 is 67 so I just use a step down ring for that lens.

    Hi. Where does sharpening come into it? Others ahem-Kelby-ahem say it’s essential otherwise they will always look soft?

    • @QuietLightPhoto
      @QuietLightPhoto  7 месяцев назад +2

      No idea to be honest. I usually just sharpen when I have sized the photo for a specific output such as a print or for social media.

    • @spidersj12
      @spidersj12 7 месяцев назад

      @ItsFritzDaCat no it completely makes sense of you take into account that not everyone would find Lightroom intuitive... one had to consider that fact, at least outside the Adobe bubble.

    • @MarkFloyd7451
      @MarkFloyd7451 7 месяцев назад

      @@spidersj12 LR classic is actually a complicated program which takes some time to master. That's why some people prefer using Adobe Bridge.

    • @spidersj12
      @spidersj12 7 месяцев назад

      @MarkFloyd7451 I use ON1 Photo RAW, Corel Graphics Suite, PaintShop Pro, and other programs... I have used PhotoShop in the past, I don't find it counter intuitive, perhaps I wouldn't find lightroom either, but I wouldn't presume to tell people that without the caveat... using various programs and switching between them is easy for people that have an affinity for it, *affinity photo not implied*...

    • @QuietLightPhoto
      @QuietLightPhoto  7 месяцев назад +1

      But that can be said about anything that we use in life from using a kettle to driving a car. Perhaps I should have been more specific, like stating that Lightroom is more intuitive than Photoshop. You wouldn't happen to be a lawyer by chance or an engineer?
