Excellent hospital and video. I was hospitalized at Cima a couple years ago for three days in a private room when I had a very aggressive infected cyst after a zip lining adventure. The harness around my waist pinched a bean size bump under my skin that grew to fist size and painful in a week, I needed emergency surgery and antibiotics. The doctors and care team were top notch and they have the best hospital food I’ve ever had. Fortunately I have not had to many hospital food experiences. I paid $14,000.00 out of pocket for the three day stay with a credit card. A bargain compared to any USA hospital. My insurance was Kaiser and Cima didn’t have except them. I kept the receipts and when I returned to the states Kaiser reimbursed me $10,000.00 since I had a $4000.00 copayment out of pocket yearly maximum. Don’t play with your health and Cima hospital is the best hospital in my opinion and I hope to never need them again but if I do I’ll be back and know I’m in good hands.

Hello Sarah. Thank you so much….this was really helpful information. Me and my wife (I’m American & she’s a Brazilian) will be traveling to Costa Rica to visit. But we are going because we want to see the area to move there. So I’m getting opinions from experienced people like you too try to narrow down the best places to live. Do you have a favorites list. I know it depends on what you want. But where do most American end up? Uvita looks nice and relaxing. We will start off in San Jose and I hear Escazu is a hot spot. And Tamarindo is another one on the NW side.

If you have Tricare for Life, & retiring in Costa Rica, can you also purchase the insurance available to residents of Costa Rica to have as either a secondary or primary insurance to use there? Basically to cover, hopefully, everything...

Also, does the cellphone service (or data for GPS) work through out the country while traveling?

Thank you for this informative video. I think a huge concern for US travelers is EMERGENCY care. How does the process work in a difficult situation? It may be a weekend or late at night, you may have limited capacity for filling out forms but you do have your medical card. Did CIMA leave contact phone numbers for us? I will be contacting them.
