Everytime you see a defibrillator used to jolt a person in a movie remember, defibrillators are designed to only "juice" or "hit" someone if their heartbeat is beating in certain irregular patterns. This movie is one of the few where it was used correctly.
Last part of what you said is correct, but the use here is totally garbage. Defib is used for certain heart rhythms (v.fiv and pulseless v.tach) and defib would make the heart go more regular but slower not faster (which was the desired effect in the movie)
@@hamoonhassan2573 We were instructed that it would not juice a normally beating heart. But it would attempt to stabilize an erratic, fluttering, or nearly stopped heart. My thought is that at least in this case the beat is abnormal. I seen it said in literature that a defib would restart a stopped heart, though the one outside my office door is not supposed to do that. Perhaps that is true with professional grade defibs. Having never used one on a real heart, and not being an expert by any means I'll defer to you. I did tell the first instructor who pointed out the safety feature that keeps a defib from stopping a normal healthy heart that she had ruined a bunch of movies for me.
@@t.b.a.r.r.o. first i want to clarify that there are two kinds of defib devices, one, called and automatic defib, this can be used by anyone with proper first aid practice; as it reads the heart rhythm and it decides whether to shock or not. The other type is a proper manual defib (many also have automated features as well), this one will give the shock without regarding the heart rythm when u press the shock buttons, as it is intended to be used by professionals that assess the rhythm within seconds and decide whether to give the shock or not. Second, defib, generally is used in certain cases of cardiac arrest, where the heart is not stopped completely rather beating abnormally, like my two mentioned examples, both of which are considered cardiac arrest, but the heart is not stopped completely, in ventricular fibrillation the heart fails to contract as a singular unit, rather it; as the name implies, fibrillates hence no blood pumping, v tach is different in mechanism but yields similar results. Hence in all situations the shock will “empty” all the electricity of the heart so to say, by making all the heart muscle cells contract at the same time thus stopping the haywire of impulses, In conclusion: this type of shock, called asynchronous shock is 1. not for a heart that is completely stopped. 2. Not for a patient who is conscious. 3. Not for a slow heart rate (regular or irregular) Hope all is clear.
@@t.b.a.r.r.o. also in this scene, there is a high risk of outright stopping the already beating heart, if it is timed with a specific period of the normal electric cycle of the heart.
@@t.b.a.r.r.o.
