The actual reason why Furina apologized instead of Paimon (who was clearly in the wrong) was probably a trauma response. It happens often that people with trauma, anxiety or abandoned issues apologize for everything and putting the guilt on themselves cause they got used to people leaving at the slightest wrong sentences.
Poor Furina finally got rid of her immortality so she was probably way to afraid people will keep leaving her.

It’s almost entirely an english issue. I myself am depressed and really sensitive to stuff like this, and had almost no problem with the quest in japanese. Paimon was somewhat insensitive at the start but it got better. The voice direction is noticeably softer in jp. The Story is about learning to do what you love again despite your trauma and past, which i can relate a lot to. I liked it, the quest wasn’t perfect but still something i could relate to really well!
I played it in Japanese and took issue with it well enough. Especially in the beginning. It doesn´t really get much better.. there´s a few things like Paimon calling her a "drama queen" that was.. not to say poorly translated, but made it much harsher of a statement than it actually was.. but still, especially traveler should have been less of an insensitive jerk at the beginning.

After playing in JP and seeing people opinions in EN and CN, I think the main factor why Furina SQ looks pretty bad in EN might be more on EN script team. From what I heard when I watch Ying play this quest, all of Paimon's dialogues sound a lot more like friendly bantering than being inconsiderate. Even when I play in JP, Paimon sounds more friendly.
I think they EN translators team might forgot how tone of their dialogue should be.
Yeah when I watch people play with en dub I kinda start zoning out since the tone completely changes the nuances of the conversations and I don't want to pay attention anymore.
@@thanse3543 I think most(if not, all) of those "Paimon slanders" come from EN localization bc I never find her annoying or unnecessarily mean.
Similar to Hu Tao's rap, I think the problem might stem from EN localization team choose to translate the dialogue directly instead of trying to change words and tones to fit the situation, which is baffling to me when they can let Itto deliver some funny lines that aren't direct translation from other languages.
I can't play the JP dub for the Fontaine cast. IDK, Levi's VA IMO didn't fit Neuvi, Furina VA in EN was incredible. But oh well, I get hated a lot of for this.
@@232Invoker I didn't think Neuvi JP VA would fit with his character either. His voice kinda grew on me bc it's fitting with the-dragon-who-can't-show-his-emotion-on-his-face-well kinda theme to some degree.
Is it better than EN Neuvi? Ofc not. but I'm okay with it.
While I think most of the EN voice are good, the tone and vibe of some characters in EN feel way different from other languages, which can give different impression.
For example, Furina's prideful acting side in JP and CN sound like a tease'able quirky girl that kinda fit with Paimon's teasing dialogue to some degree.
In EN, that side of Furina sounds way less tease'able and more prideful, which wouldn't fit with Paimon's teasing dialogue. Also, Paimon's tone in those dialogues don't sound like teasing and ready to take Furina's counterattack. That's why they sounds rude and inconsiderate to Furina.
* This is just my impression I got from Furina's SQ. IDK if it's the same for other people.
Tbh I’ve seen the Impact of the different dubs on characterization quite a lot, I’d have arguments with a friend of mine on characters because our fundamental understanding of these characters changes based on the language of the game. And I found that my opinions align a lot more with my friends who play in jp and not with those who play in eng. but fundamentally we should know both of these are dub’s and the original characterization only can be seen in the Chinese voice acting.

I was half satisfied with her Story Quest, even so that I do love Furina's character as a whole. However.. for the Film Festival event quests, I have found the other half of satisfaction that "fixed" the known issue.

Im so glad the traveler and paimon are (trying to) be better to Furina in the event story. This really pissed me the fk off with how they talked to Furina and all.
Some Idea's for merch: 1. Acrylic Back/Front Figurines of your character cheap & cost effective compared to PVC Figurines, Simple Plushies, or Small Keychains also sell well. 2School & Work related themed merch such as Binders, Notebooks, Backpacks, Clothes, also works. 3. Utensils cups/mugs Wash/Dish/Bathroom Towels, too. If you're going to sell Merch than I recommend choosing items you know most people would go after or utilize. The Bigger stuff can be "Special Merch" for the more Hardcore Fans you've generated. This can range from PvC Figures or Resin Statues to Wallscrolls, or Mousepads of your Character or something else the fans may vote on. This is my observational opinion so I hope you can find this helpful Mina, Good Luck & Happy New Year.
The issue isn’t the writing, but the localization. This story quest feels consistent with how the rest of the game feels in terms of localization. This isn’t the first time that the meaning of dialogue ends up being botched when translated over to English

What gets me about Paimon here is that this is the first real time she's been this bad. We've seen her interacting with other characters and giving them the benefit of the doubt... hell, even Ei, despite Paimon's only interactions with her being the Puppet nearly killing the Traveler. And I hear that the other dubs make her interactions seem like playful banter... but that doesn't actually solve the root problem. Paimon wasn't bad here because she made fun of Furina, it was because she continued to do so even after Furina called her out. Plus, she was clearly manipulating Furina into feeling bad about not helping even after being told multiple times that Furina wasn't going to do it.
I've never disliked Paimon before... but this quest really put her on thin ice for me.
I dunno, I remember Paimon briefly being an absolute jerk at Itto from the Chasm quest earlier.

@@Ike_squid That's fair, but it doesn't really go against my point. Paimon's antics are usually because she doesn't think about what she says or does and it comes across as rude. With Furina, Paimon is openly and actively poking at her wounds, deliberately mocking her (even after being told by multiple people to stop), and gaslighting her into breaking her clear boundaries.
Paimon treats Furina with hostility despite being openly friendly toward characters that were worse to her. She acts fearfully, but genuinely helpful toward Ei after watching her nearly kill the Traveler. She treats Childe like a friend depite him being a Harbinger, assaulting the Traveler, and deliberately unleashing a god against Liyue.
Kinda weird how people get mad at Furina's boundaries not being respected at the start of the quest, but the same people think it's cute when her boundaries are also disregarded at the end of the quest when they use her real name. I guess at that point everyone is riding the high of how beautiful the performance was and how she got her vision though.
well that was not really a boundary she set though, they never even talked to her about the plan to reveal it.
the only bad part was Paimon being completely insensitive
the traveler stopped to listen to what Furina was feeling and comforted her (my favorite moment of the quest)
Maybe if the writers didn't make Paimon drastically change her personality in every quest and make her stop being insensitive, many quests would be better

The quest itself isn't bad, but the way they execute it in getting Furina into helping the troupe was insensitive. For all that people rag on Raiden's first quest, it was without a doubt the way they should have taken Furinas/

the guy in the red suit was blaming himself for all those years and that's why he kept such an important secret from others, but I still don't think he was selfish
Traveler wanted to force Furina to leave the house a little and even though it wasn't "cool" on his part, I thought it was the right decision (I've been as depressed as Furina was and I wish someone had taken me out of the house at the time and tried to cheer me up somehow)
@@Keiki-kun the problem with the idea in agreeing that the traveler was doing it for Furina's own good is that it's entirely an assumption. There are few, if any, hints that they were actually taking advantage of the troupe to help her out from the start, nor do they actually feel like her friend or even friendly in the beginning.
I know what the theme of this was, it's not letting trauma hold you back from what you love. but they should of done a different theme that fits in "mental illnesses" criteria

I am SO glad I'm not the only one that was upset at this quest. This is the first time I've truly disliked the Traveler and Paimon. They were both so rude, though Traveler barely holds herself in check sometimes. I don't feel like they deserve Furina's friendship. Furina on the other hand was THE best part of this quest. I loved seeing her emotional growth and moments of vulnerability. She was portrayed beautifully!

Dont worry, in the newest event, the Fontanalia Festival, where Furina is the director, the writers acknowledged the outrage towards Paimon's attitude towards Furina in the story quest and decided to make just be an actual side character (clapper board loader) and make Furina the center piece.
This event was coded and voiced long before Furina quest was released. In no way shape of form did they acknowledge anything people say within this patch.

Especially with side stories like these there’s usually different teams that write them which is why the inconsistency of paimon and the traveler, well travels back and forth
Versions are made months before publication... even years after planning. xD
The only problem is that 'Roses n Muskets' seems to be a limited event. Meaning the ugly side of Lumine and Paimon is permanent without a redeeming showcase for this quest. (unless Furina's part 2 quest solves all of this.)

To be fair, the water levels used to be a lot lower, there is even a makeshift dam in Possion, which was probably built some time in the last couple years. Though... they really should have started to evacuate the moment that Dam was actually needed...

Not only Paimon and the traveler are being so harsh in this quest, the guy requests a replacement without the actress’ consent. Everyone is being so insensitive except Furina who felt guilty for rejecting the offer.
Honestly, Furina’s development and ending are the only good thing about this damn awful story quest. If they didn’t make her likable in the archon quest, people would just skipped the quest immediately after the start.

I can understand why they made traveler and Paimon that rude, they want to show people how determined Furina when she said no, I am not going back, yeah it's rude but it's a way to express Furina character after the Archon quest
What were the writers trying to achieve with this quest besides giving Furina a vision. Paimon and the traveler were completely inconsiderate. They guiltrip her, gaslight her, and she should have shown them the boot and not accepted the task/roll, and she should not have apologized. In the archon quest, the traveler said that he/she could be someone Furina could lean on and confide in, this quest completely contradicts what they said and I am certain everyone who did this quest hated paimon and the traveler. Furina's second story quest better be more considerate of Furina.
@Mina, I thought you should know in Furina's character story when she moves out of the Palais Mermonia clorinde visits her and tries to get her a better residence with her own money and helps her with unpacking and takes her to a party, so Clorinde is her best friend (in my opinion) depending on furinas second story quest the line in her first that says she has no friends is a plot inconsistency.

Furina's quest showed her, that even after all she's been through, Opera is still her beloved thing and she still likes it no matter how hard she trying to convince herself otherwise. It's about getting over your pain and move forward. She's not an immortal being anymore, she can't just spend her life thinking about past and being scared of everything, she needed that performance to understand that there's people who would love her no matter who she is now, god, human, actress or just someone behind the scenes

The dad comments on Neuvillette are so freakin' weird, dude's the same age as Furina.
Neuvillete is several thousands of years old, Furina actually confirmed it in the lantern rite event (he became Iudex of Fontaine somewhere around the time Furina was created)

I played this quest with CN, paimon was not like EN, this is first time I want to kick her very hard, like I use every strength I have in my live...

The fact she was more or less forced up on stage and even had her own wants and desires ignored by the cast kind of irritated me also. It felt out of character for the Traveler to act so much like a jerk to Furina.

Очевидно, что во время задания легенд она находится в безумно подавленном состоянии, а если прочитать ее историю персонажа 5, можно узнать, что она вообще целыми днями не выходила из дома и смотрела в потолок. Люди на грани депрессии/ в депрессии не ходят по ресторанам. Дайте ей возможность восстановиться и она снова заживёт полной жизнью

Watching this for like the fifth time across multiple creators still shows how horrible of a plot this had. Glad to see the majority of rational thinkers agree everyone was mostly horrible to Furina in this quest.
I think most of these streamers are missing the point and the whole concept surrounding the quest, it was mainly just mean part at the beginning with paimon and traveller that didn’t sit well with me. Besides from that the ideas around the quest was quite well written. From what I understand the majority of the hate for the quest stems from the lack of respect the character had regarding furina’s wishes and “rules” about not acting and being apart of the play and not providing her with the leisure to be free and act of her own will. Whilst this does appear to be true when witnessed at a surface level, you could also view that through forcing furina to break her “one rule” furina’s true freedom is gained. Her story quest draws direct parallels to the archeon quest, where focalors essentially sets furina the rule of never playing out of character. After the archeon quest is finished, furina is technically free to do as she pleases, however dispite being free she still sets another unbreakable rule for herself, “never to act again” which the traveller and very annoying paimon helps to break, ultimately setting her free from the binds of any “unbreakable” rules that govern her life. I can see how the writers of the quest were forced to portray paimon and the traveller in a bad light to drive furina’s personal development and story, however I think most players and streamers are caught up on this fact and see the larger picture because ultimately...

The fact that there are still people defending paimons behaviour is crazy. Would you actually say the things paimon and traveler said to your friend after experiencing something traumatic?
Nothing new, there are a lot of crazy people in the world that treat their friends like that.
While i understand why people disliked how Traveler and Paimon treated Furina during her story quest, i also need to remind everyone that the writer is a Chinese, and in South East Asia countries, they have different cultures and different ways to deal with things.
They would usually push the person whom dealing with sadness out of their comfort zone with the thought of “hey, being sad ain’t do shit, it’s better to get out there and work on something” instead of “alright honey take as much time as you like we will always be there for you”.
It’s a harsher culture but it doesn’t mean they are being asshole.

But this is Fontaine, French, not Chinese, pushing Chinese way and culture into it makes no sense. Another thing is, she suffered PTSD from all her suffering of enduring her 500 years of acting, it's not the same as sadness or depression, it's a fucking trauma, you don't go and tell people with trauma to wake the fuck up samurai and think you're helping them. People's anger towards Paimon and Traveler is justified, they could have do it in a different better way but they didn't and chose gaslighting.
From what I saw Ying(Genshin streamer who play in CN.), Paimon sound way more like friendly bantering in CN than EN.
I think it's more on EN translation, tone choice or dialogue problem than Paimon and Traveler being a jerk.

If you tell a French person to write a about a Chinese and their story then you should expect the influence of French culture in that story.
I'm the type of person who's like "it's just a cartoon LMAO" when things like this happens. But this story quest gave some nuance to my position. Just because it is a cartoon, it doesn't mean that the emotions we feel about how Paimon and Traveler talks to Furina is any less real.
Hot take: I believe this Story Quest is a bit rushed. This story quest in particular would've been more appropriate if it was an Act II. Act I should've been Furina finding herself and healing from the 500 years of torment.

YES! I actually view more the act of "babying"/spoiling or being real empathetic and way too kind to Furina as more an insult into what she's been through. That act would completely be seen through by Furina given she's WAY more than a veteran actress at this point and it would be like spitting in her character as you'd be like looking at her as if she'll break at any point.
Because whose to say that she may not eventually do a Raiden Ei and lock herself in her own room for who knows how long if we just leave her be. She needed a push and yes, not that hard a push as to what Paimon and the Traveler did, but a push to truly get a good look at the outside world and what resulted in her sacrifice.

Completely agree with You there, this is a trauma We are facing, there is no 100% way to cure it, I even hear that trauma is possibly cure after the same time We are experiencing it or more, She done that in 500 years, aint no way We are comforting Her for 500 years, idc if its harsh or soft way, if I can help someone, even if everyone hate Me even if The person I was trying to help hate Me, I will do it, no matter how They do it, Paimon and Traveler succed, nothing else matter when facing trauma.

Okay, but something being good or not is very subjective and varies from person to person. The main thing though that this quest definitely should of brought up is that this takes place a while after the end of Act V and not directly afterwards.
@@StanleyG23 given the fact they basically lie to the people to start an insurrection, stabbed Furina in the back, twist the knife, effectively told her to kys or admit to not being the archon (which was completely unnecessary, and anyone with half a heart and brain would have gone with the diluted idea to begin with), literally just didn’t care that they left Furina to cry for hours and at best wanting to stop the execution because “she still needs to tell us her secret” (the secret they basically already knew), then upon seeing what she went through instead of having a drop of sympathy this tone deaf mf goes “oh, I’m finally gonna hear what she was about to say to me”, she cries more as everything else happens, then they ghost her just to show up again making demands and laughing at her (let’s just ignore how gross it is that their first thought was “lets go get the traumatized person that was forced to play a role for 500 years to take up this gig (she’s over qualified for) for free”, and after all that they had the nerve to have Furina still call them friends (the same day their were pushing her boundaries and unapologetically insulting her)
The villains are worshiped as heros, the hero is punished and vilified, and the general populous is dumb and inconsistent.
By what metric is this good?

The full reason is basically 3 parts.
The facts and how their actions don’t make sense with what we know they know, and the things we can reasonably assume they should known (Like the fact the O.M.D.C. was storing power; which she mentioned even civilians had figured out.)
Then the trial because it seems like no one acknowledges how cruel their action were to Furina (especially with how unnecessary those actions were to begin with, and the fact that nothing good that happened was part of said plan.)
And the aftermath (mostly the fact that there is literally no good reason why they are keeping the truth a secret.)
@@Tovy in short, this is why I think Fontaine is bad. And the closest I’ve gotten to someone telling me how it’s good was “Oh, you just have bad tastes”
This is because you have an omniscient view of things. The traveler and the foontain cast didn’t know what you know. Form their point of view Futuna was being a brat and the risk of having everyone die was too high.
Obviously that wasn’t the case but there was no way for them to know that.
Did you play the Archon Quest? The Traveler knows the truth about Furina, and how she'd been merely acting as the Hydro Archon for 500 years.
His actions in this story quest are inexcusable because he witnessed firsthand through Furina's tears the suffering she had endured for 500 years.
It's very frustrating to see people who still do not realize that Paimon is like a child sometimes, once you realize this you stop taking her seriously when she is mean. It's even worse when many players think that Lumine/Aether is their Mary Sue/Gary stu.
Paimon's status to be seen as a child is extremely subjective and unlikely. I don't take her seriously, but when I see her being a mega Jerk, gloves are off. On the other hand I view Paimon as an extended physical sub-conscious of the traveler, so I put most blame on Lumine.
