After hundreds of hours practicing air dribble training packs, I just realized that the training packs themselves actually hurt me more than help. I could always hit the shot in training but never consistently in games. I've recently just started going into free-play and practicing that way as it forces me to create my own set up instead of relying on the perfect setup training packs always give you which almost never happens in an actual game. I haven't touched a training pack in about 2 weeks and I am already a lot more consistent in games. Just a tip for those who may have the same issue.
In actual games you should basically make sure to get to that "perfect" setup before going for air dribbles. You can practice this specific consistency in training but the training pack like others for this is not negligible for practicing wall dribbling itself. Plus this pack already gives you the ability to setup yourself to practice it
Idk why you have ‘hundreds of hours’ on training packs (especially for air dribbling packs) I feel like packs can help but mostly use free play with packs aiding to it. And also air dribbled packs r useless except for things that funnily enough r not air dribbles
This is a normal part of improving your mechanics. Training packs give you the perfect setup so you get the visual and muscle memory of where the car and ball should be as well as what inputs you need to do to succeed. However, if you only ever do training packs then you will get wrecked by higher level players. As soon as they see what you can do with the perfect setup, they will prevent you from ever getting the perfect setup.
There's plenty of calm and cool RUclipsrs doing tutorials. Perhaps you're clicking on the wrong ones. Probably because of their "tHe BEST waY To Do FlIp ReSeTs!!!" clickbait titles... right?
I've been hovering around low Champ the last few seasons, and I always had trouble controlling the ball on a first touch when it lifts away from the wall. I can't wait to get this pack and practice. Thank you for the video, I've always said that practicing the fundamentals is way more effective than the flashy stuff. There are people lower rank than me who are WAY more mechanically skilled than I am, but I'll often win just because they lack the game sense I've built up.
Fundamentals doesnt always mean basic mechs, it also applies to game sense as well. Like your job as first man is to make it easy for your second man to follow up either a shot, or a clear. Your job as second man is to buy time so your first man can rotate back and become second man. That’s the fundamental of game sense, fundamentals for mechs would be power shooting, bounce dribble, normal dribble, 50s, fast aerial, etc.
I'm not gonna say how many hours it took me to make that connection, but I will say I have the est. 2015 banner and am just now looking at air dribble setups...
Not a trick. A reminder of Rocket League's default ball cam view-- a beeline vector center screen to the blind spot directly on the other side of the ball, wherever that points on the field.
So I started playing a couple years ago with my sons, picked it back up recently and taught myself wall setups last night, and this was the main thing that I picked up because I have my camera swivel all the way up, so it makes the timing window seem smaller and it really helped me get the first touch consistent
I saw another video that helped me a lot when they said "boost into position not into the ball" That center of mass image is so good too. Love all your videos
Your training content is the best i've seen since Sunless khan's "Why you suck at Rocket League". This is hands down the BEST wall to dribble vid I have seen. Super clear. That visual cue tip is SOooooooo good. Can't wait to put this into action! thank you!
Just the video I needed, I learnt air roll, air dribbles and flip resets from u and have since got very consistent at them, my problem is the setup and actually using the mechs I have in a match. Thanks for another great vid. Also There is something called dodge control a youtuber named kevpert has covered it and it is a great way to get control of the ball in the air when it bounces away from the wall you might want to look into that if you haven't already as it could be another tutorial idea.
great video for people whom need to learn these setups , ive always prefered using very manual setups to not just train a mech but also setting it up yourself
Great stuff as usual. I can honestly say your videos were a very important part of me learning dar, flip resets, and power flicks. I'd love if you'd dissect more advanced mechanics as well.
Yep, Griff has the best tutorials. He breaks things down so well it's very easy to follow. Honestly can't believe we were the same rank for a long time. 2 completely different types of players getting to the same spot basically their own way. This guy's got the mechs
I love how in-depth your videos go, like in the powershot video, feels like a subconciously inserted mini intro to physics lesson. It isn't so much of a tutorial, but a lesson. Every other channel just says "match the speed, jump and follow the ball like and sub plz". I could have sworn I subbed forever ago, but i guess I didn't. And thank you for the flip reset video. Im still not good enough at them to do them in game, but man are they fun to play with in custom matches with friends when I only have a few minutes to hop on.

Appreciate the vid man. I had the bad habit to always wanting touse air roll right after the set up and it wasted boost and time a lot. Tried to replicate ur set up with just boosting to the ball and rolling right before contact made the difference I needed. Thank you!
@@Grifflicious awesome !!! there’s hardly anything on this topic on YT but the angle and the way the car turns into the first touch can make all the difference to get it to pop up from even a really low setup of the wall
My main issue is that i use air roll, not left or right. So jumping off the wall at some angles is kinda impossible. I can do normal air dribble setups etc but those that require me to spin and roll close to the was you cant do, like at 6:14 & 6:56. I just dont know the fastest way to learn L/R roll

(im also brasilian and i have a bad English so maybe i just dont know how to use the correct words to search)
Do you have a detailed tip on how to go off the right wall using left air roll efficiently. For not perfectly set up air dribbles its to slow and hard to jump off the wall for a aerial on that side. Been looking everywhere.
Your tips are super useful as always. I've been able to build on small steps just because you explained them just right. One of the things that will be useful is to tackle a few in game scenarios where you see the ball and should a couple of approaches to your decision making on what to do next. For example, do you go straight up for an aerial here, or go off the wall instead etc and why.
Is using power slide at the point of contact a good idea? Thank you for your uploads, you have a great way of breaking things down into a simple science
hey griff very helpful video as always, is there any chance I could know ur camera stiffness? I think mines too high because when I get a little bit under the ball the camera goes entirely under my car putting me in a blackout type situation!
The boost management is my problem, grabbing the boost or having enough boost before going for an off the wall shot is something I really struggle with
Nice pack. I'm missing a shot here where the ball roll from the opponent's corner so you have to slightly tap a ball rolling on the ball toward you and not from you. Other than, that, I really like the addition of control toward the wall shots.
Why not use the overlay to show where to hit the ball. or even just 'take control mode'. That is sweet when you need to take a piss or something. You can set it up to play a certain rank style and do certain moves
Griff, forgive me if im being dumb, but when talking about shot 2 and 3 at 5:18, were you saying to jump before or after contact with the ball on shot 2 when it is higher up on the wall? When you say they "work best using one or the other", does that mean you can jump before or after contact and it doesn't matter (on these shots 2 and 3)?
I’m pretty sure everything said in the video shouldn’t be practiced in particular because it is just something you learn by playing. Also if you wanna learn how to do stuff just go free play. There is almost no reason to go in training packs because they just don’t provide a realistic situation most of the time. Also what I found out when I got better(currently gc3 in 2s) is that a lot of training packs encourage you to go for a shot in a situation where you just shouldn’t shoot the ball in a game.
is it possible to have nice setups and plays without using directional air roll all the time? I'm not that mechanical and I can not use directional air roll how you show in the video 😢. However, I was able to more or less do the setups you described. Any advice?
Of course! Just don't over use your boost in the air. Be intentional about your touches (speed and direction) and take your time. When you don't use air roll, you really have to make sure and not commit to any one direction while boosting. It will create a directional momentum that will be very difficult to control and correct.
It's a binding called "air roll left". There is also air roll right but I typically don't use that one. Conversely, if you hold down your air roll button, should you have one, you can then roll the car left or right based on your joystick direction.
Entre el hitbox y entre como se separa la pelota, es bastante dificil calcular como usar el muro. ¿A donde apuntar?, ¿Que tanto girar? , descubrire si hablas de eso en unos minutos
20000 matches and lots of hours in free play and ball still hits me in the air harder than I hit it. Like I feel like I get bonked downwards and I can burn 80 boost and only be hovering just off the ground. Barely ever able to get back up for a 2nd hit or double tap
The actual problem is if you are soloqueuing none of these tips apply.. it's basically playing goalie until diamond 3 div 3/champ 2. Up until then you can 100% expect your teammates to take possession from you and never be in mid, or know left go's 1st... or keep it out of your corners.☹.
