Dice's Droideka seems enjoyable but does not follow the real Droideka in the most representative way. They are flanky it is correct but they are also very tanky. Low damage could be logical for game balance's sake but it is better to give it a more powerful shield or If Dice wants to stick with flankiness of Droideka over tankiness of Droideka then they just should add a damage distance buff without touching shields. I think second option sounds better.
Well they can make droideka a infantry type which act as a tank as it supposed to be but being an armored car / light tank instead of walking tank is more balanced and also more original idea.

I absolutely love the hit and run gameplay style of the Droideka. Didn't take me long to realize to play this way, because it's just perfectly built for it. BUT i do think just a tiny buff on the Blaster damage at medium range would be good. There's this weird distance where you swear you're close enough to do decent damage, but you're really just shooting marshmallows. Health and Shields are perfect imo.

  • @Commander_Appo

The only 2 buffs I think Droidekas need are:
Running over, or at least knocking over and doing a bit of damage to enemies while in wheel mode.
Less damage drop off at range.
Oh and maybe give enforcers back the Explosives expert card, but make it also buff droideka’s shields. Maybe rename it “Tech Expert” it something.

they still need a buff. They should be a good bit more powerful than a b-2 super battle droid. They cost the CIS considerably more than a B-2 and a B-1. The rolly boys need to be objectively the most powerful infantry reinforcement on the CIS side. This would, of course, come with a high battle point cost. But that's not a problem with me.

  • @darthjoshua6663
    @darthjoshua6663 5 лет назад +18

I manage to do fairly good with them, but they still need a buff. Lightsaber users are way to powerful against a droideka, especially how the lightsabers pull the droideka towards them. They need transformation damage reduction, shield buff, mid range damage buff. You know, the usual stuff everyone else is talking about. They should be more powerful, because in the movies and tv shows they were highly effective, expensive and relied upon. Much more than the B-2s and B-1s. They may be balanced at the moment, but that doesn't matter. The lore dictates they are a good bit more powerful than they are now. In the Phantom Menace, Qui Gon and Obi Wan literally run away from them and use the force to enhance their speed for good measure. Right now, when a droideka pops up on the battlefront I am not scared at all. I want to be scared and intimidated by them. But sadly I am not and view them in most situations as an easy kill. Though I have noticed people using them more competently, its still few and far between. They can be very good in certain situations. But I believe they need a buff for improved game mechanics and to coincide with the established canon lore.

One other really good use for the droideka is running distraction operations.
Don't underestimate the power of rolling back and forth in front of the enemy spawn and then leaving for a bit to heal, before repeating.
The sheer number of clones that have basically thought: "Oh cool, I can kill a Droideka!" and shot at me, _barely_ scratching my health pool and wasting time that they could have spent running towards any of the several objective markers, is astounding.
One Droideka can distract a good third of the enemy team or more like this, and it really does make a difference and help thin out the opposition your team faces.

The problem with this is that (a) the droidekas in the movies are not flanking units, they're siege units, and (b) the Enforcer class is not a flanking class, it's a frontline class.
I get that DICE seems to have designed the droidekas with flanking in mind, but as that's not their role in the lore, there's kind of a disconnect there.

Flanking with Droidekas has been super frustrating, because the range drop off is so severe you have to be right behind them, blaster to their dome. So they hear me transform and put an end to any would be fun. Slight health buff, and some range on the blasters, please. I don't think the question should be whether or not they need a buff, but a numerical redesign. The question is: why? What is the purpose of those? Isn't Commando Droid supposed to be used for flanking and CQC?
I think Droidekas should cost more BP, get more health, stronger shields and reduced damage drop-off. They should be stronger, yes, but they should also cost more BP simultanously to offset for that.
Also I don't think it's fair to give one faction the ability to go super speed at the objective at this low of a BP cost anyway. And I don't want to see Droidekas non stop either, they should be more rare of a sight than a B2 Battle Droid.

Easy tip to win 1v1 if both you and them see each other,
jump and transform at the same time it will cut the shield deploy time in half and your weapons are ready faster meaning instant shield and guns during transformation.
I've used this "tactic" to score various 1v1/1v2 engagements without surprising the opponents.
And even tho Droidekas aren't the bad-ass machines I was hoping, they are by no means completely useless.

I'm always a heavy so I usually charge in as my final form, shields up, grenade out, pew pew ready for dispensing, and I go unto them, and creepith the earth in victory, so knowing the droideka is not the same way is a huge help

While I haven't kept up with patch notes, etc. (and I'm a year late), on launch I felt they needed a buff to their shields, don't think quite as much of a buff as I used to, to the shields, but tweaks here and there wouldn't hurt.
As for the Droideka itself, I find using it in a sort of "wolfpack" with another Droideka or if on the defensive a Aerial B2 or two works wonders, especially against vehicles which have a rough time targeting both as Droidekas move to fast in ball form to easily target and Aerial B2s can jump clean over them, allowing for some pretty quick and clean kills, if they were in a situation where they had to fight say an AT-ST they'd decimate the AT-ST easily since it just can't keep up with them, their really underrated vehicle killers from what I've seen.

I may or may not have gotten 10 kills because I had 1v10 them at one of the command points on Capital Supremacy... My internet is bad where I'm visiting so I'll have to see if the clip was able to save or not.
Edit: Also, just saying for those who can't figure out the Droideka, use it as a hit and run tactic. Just flank your enemy, eliminate them, (If you have to, capture the Command Point) and roll out.

Droidekas are not as bad actually, but people don't know to use them... and i recognize, i'm one of them... so i don't play with, but i know how to kill them
I have on naboo my most droideka kills, 12 by myself alone, and more assists on
It's kind of awesome, thinking that actually anyone on one o one with droidekas will obviously die:))))

Since shields don't regenerate, if I am in heavy combat [and have the enforcer card that makes you gain health on enemy kills] I will overcharge my guns and drop my shields when they are low! Also you can reload while rolling =D.

  • @AestheticSloth420

My strategy, roll around and distract people while my team advances then go to a different flag and try to cap it.
Use my overload and shield, then retreat when my shield is gone because health will be destroyed right quick, but then I just roll around and ambush players. Then move to the next flag, and don't stop rotating. It'll make winning the ground game very easy, especially with a good squad that can back you up so you can stay hidden and ambush the newly distracted clones because your teammates have drawn their attention
Pro tip: on the end stage of cap sup, you can take half of the target's hitpoints with one point blank overload
*And watch out for anakin, he pulls you in like a blender with his lightsaber style
**Also you can use one overload with sustained fire afterwards on the AT-TE and it'll be dead in seconds when you stand right under it
***Another one, don't always pop your shield if you're ambushing lone players or bots, save it until you know a competent player is about to engage you or you're trying to blast someone in the back in an open area

If you can't dominate in those situations you listed, then there's a fatal flaw. It's made for tanking. Hell, they even tanked jedi in the movies. However, in this game, the jedi just run at you and clip their lightsaber through your shield. Bottom line droidekas are broken and need to be severely buffed.

You know what? It's the same rule with the first order jet Trooper. Stay at range if you have to use all three barrels of your projectile launcher. Use your jetpack to get out of areas quickly. And especially when you see Ray just get the f*** out of there when you see Ray.

Rule 1 should not exist. Enforcer are not mean to be flanking troops... Infiltrator of Aerial yes. Not Destroyers. Destroyers need a reduce damage drop down at mid range.

They are too fragile and dropoff is ridicilous, flanking will work with any class, its just the only way to survive as deka even with its shield. All we need is just for blasters being usefull at medium range, because if they are like 6 meters away, you will just do little to no damage, especialy when your shield takes power from your blasters.

  • @leonessapientia5645

I hate to be a broken record but I think the shield needs a buff because it’s the equivalent of a personal shield. You can get killed in a 1 v 2 very easily. If not that then it needs a serious damage buff (or preferably both but I won’t get greedy).

In supremacy, play for Seperatists, after you capture a command post on the republic cruiser, play as a Droideka and roll to the weak points to fire at. The clones will have to worry about you and the other homies coming that way. A droideka with the no cooldown ability plus the rest of the fire can fully destroy one weak point. The destroyer form of the Droideka is hard to push with a force user so you can put pace and maneuver them.

Anyone having the problem on PS4 where the Droideka spontaneously enters ball mode? It seems to be bound to the sprint ability. Very annoying for it to do that just a second after I've activated overload & it's one of the top reasons I die as the unit cause I'll be taking on a group & it'll spontaneously roll up.

agree 100%. that's how yo play then. they have just been designed wrong, they are ment to be in your face strongest of the stong units, not sneeky flanker. the in game successful method of play just doesn't reflect there movie representation at all. they are fun, they are just not playable the way the movies tell us they should be able to behave. if you roll up in anyone's fave you die

I just wish that droidekas didn't get pulled towards Jedi when they get hit while rolling away. That and the fact that droidekas have zero chance of survival once a Jedi sees them because they are so slow in turret form and for some reason the lightsaber goes straight through their shield. I always get the hell out of Dodge when I see a hero as a droideka.
