This game is the definition of a musical masterpiece, I am very glad to see how the developers were able to experiment with many genres of music and managed to make it all sound wonderful together.
When I first heard of this game, it felt like it was made just for people like me and that is just beautiful. This just speaks to me, and if you have even just a little interest in playing it, please do it. Also, awesome video. Why does it have so little views?
Spoilers: In the 2nd DK West Encounter after Zuke "You're No Brother Of Mine" the way the music just continues for a long time before ending because West was so shocked by it and couldn't come up with anything is so good
The OST track is so GOOD that I immediately bought the original when it came out and aswell both the Christmas version AND the remix version in the Encore edition! Shame you didn't mention the Christmas version? Like seriously name me another game that has an Christmas version to their game tract and still maintain the head banger that song had??!!
I love the songs in the christmas version but only like certain ones in the encore edition. However...In the original I love them all! Sayu and Eve are my all time faves! I mean Eve is my fave character and I love her outfit in the Chirstmas version.
Finally someone talks about how amazing this game is! I just love the small details sprinkled across the game, and one of my favourites is that in the vinyl city theme, it’s mostly EDM, but every so often you can hear the sound of an electric guitar echoing in the background, showing that vinyl city was built through rock, and that even if EDM currently rules it, rock still is in its foundations, and left its mark It’s such a joy to play, and I’m definitely going to be playing it again thanks so this video Also: this game has one of the best insults I’ve ever heard come from a game: “eat dirt, you piece of plank”
The name of the game “No Straight Roads” is really clever foreshadowing with Tatiana’s valid criticism of the rock revolution. One small detail that’s really easy to overlook, but is equally smart as the rest of the tiny details.
Idk why everyone always complains about the combat in this game I've never had a problem with it and the controls work well enough. I mean, it's not breaking new ground or anything, but it's completely serviceable and I like being able to strategically switch characters on the fly to save health or inflict extra damage
NSR is something else man, it’s an underdog story done SO right, and everything adds up into a game that leaves a lasting impression on you. also that soundtrack BABYYYY 11/10 INCREDIBLE
Man, I love when games are made from the heart, it's really great when people can express their own emotions instead of depending on companies which is, pretty ironic. I really want more people to know about this game, it really deserves more attention.
This whole game is a DIAMOND. I love how when you gain items of the bosses you get to explore their backstories. Vs. Yinu and Vs. Sayu are my jams. DK West is our man. and Bunka Junka Shakalaka Bam!
I discovered this game 'cause a video with their boss battles and now is one of my favourites. I love it hard, specially the character design and personality, simply a masterpiece.
@Sydney's Gacha anime It's difficult to choose only one favourite character, but I could say mine is Dj SubSup. His voice, personality, design, story... I love it all from him. But Tatiana is possibly one of my most favourite female characters ever. She is incredible, I love her voice, and how combines wisdom with irony, resulting in a charisma bomb. Very great character.
Same, hell I avoided it initially because I thought it was some cheesy game from the thumbnail. Then I just let it auto play and the music stole my heart
Great watch! Have not found too many videos talking about NSR in a in-depth review format like this. Very much a treat to find one this well put together. This game really is awesome! --and that is not me being biased because I did graffiti art for it hehehe--
upon seeing the thumbnail with those words on it, i STOPPED and scrolled back, and screamed (internally) *"i kNOW R I GH T ?!"* upon reading the title THANK YOU for making this video because I don't have much to express my love for NSR which I thought will never be shared enough and this game is just ARGH _SO_ GOOD. And i woudkvet cried if this game went unnoticed by the world
Oh man, I've been hyperfixated on this game since 2019, ever since the first trailer dropped! I help run a couple discord fan groups and I designed one of the guitars in the game too, under the same username. It's been a huge inspiration to my art and even perspective on a lot of things I'm really glad it's getting the recognition it deserves, the characters and world are so fun, and the messages are really well-done, focusing on the problems that both sides face and also cause. It's a breath of fresh air to see SEA culture represented in a game while still relating to general audiences. I could ramble about the characters for hours and write literal essays on the themes and design of this game but, I think you summarized everything pretty well about just what it is that makes this such a great game!
Fun fact about the artists who made the music for NSR; The artists James Landino, Funk Fiction, Falk Au Yeong and Andy Tunstall (Their group is called Cliqtrack) contributed with music to Sonic Before the Sequel and After The Sequel. They did a mix of the Base tracks, the EDM versions and Rock versions. It's amazing how they wrote this music together and adapted it to different genres. There were also some extra artists on the game like Masahiro Aoki, RoboRob and Az Samad. This game is a musical love letter and I loved my time with it.
There are actually 3 different versions of each boss theme! A regular version, a more EDM version, and the Rock version. Not to mention theres the Christmas remixes too. The amount if effort that went into this game really shows and I love it! (Edit: I want to mention that there exists videos and remixes online where people have mixed all 3 versions of each boss track with eachother and they sound GREAT, being built in a way that they fit together like puzzle pieces. Pretty poetic considering the end message of the game is that EDM and Rock should work together rather than oppose eachother.)
I've loved this game since it came out. A boss fight compilation on my recommended is how I found it, and I've been in love ever since. This game is phenomenal and I hope there is some kinda sequel.
My mom forced me to work for the game AND NOW I CAN GET THE GAME!!! I've been wanting the game since I saw this video and I LOVE exploring the world of video games and music so this game felt like a match made in heaven when I first saw it and I had to work my butt off a LOT so I can get this game but it is so worth it! I've been locked out of my steam account for a so i haven't been able to play again for a I've taken quite a bit of comfort in yinu due to how I perceived her battle since it got progressively overshadowed by her mom, and I related with my recent hobby of baking since I've been put under a lot of pressure by my parents and siblings ro keep improving at a rate that is making me struggle.. I actually got so caught up with just adoring the designs and the soundtracks for a good while that it led to me kinda not fully completing the game.. I've already mentioned being locked out of my steam account but I've also been taking on a bunch of things at once with figuring out a lot of stuff for myself since I need to also focus on what's next for me making me have a very busy schedule especially since I'm in grade 11 now with school starting in a week (Sorry for the rambling, but the game has affected me and school quite a bit) a couple songs have been incorporated into my study playlist due to how I just get really focused when listening- idk but I had more fun studying for tests and stuff when I had the soundtrack playing in the background I just love the game so much, and I could ramble about yinu alone for a good 20 minutes if given the chance

I am super impressed with how you eloquently described the game, as well as the great editing and progression of the video. You didn't make it hard to watch but you didn't spare us the details. This is a channel that deserves to have more subscribers. I might as well watch more reviews on your channel, and I'm not the kind of guy to watch review videos (that says a lot!) Keep it up!
It's obvious that they put a lot of thought into the heart and soul of the game and those who play it feel that love. I feel the rock journey of Um Jammer Lammy, the anti-establishment vibes of Jet Set Radio, the Over-the-top theatrics of Psychonauts, and the social honesty of cause and effect of Life is Strange... This was not a game, it was an art piece.
The music came up in my shuffle mix on RUclips a few times and realized I liked them a lot. And I’m already a fan of Funk Fiction, the artist so I listened to a lot of music on repeat like you which lead me here learning more about this game and if it’s a good fit for me. Ironically,it reminds me a lot of “Hi-Fi Rush” even though that just came out. My cousin recommended it to me and I love the voice actors in that game but I don’t have Xbox or a decent PC. So I guess, for now, I’m stuck playing No Straight Roads first.
I am so happy to see someone talk about this amazing game, my experience was with the original on Switch (never ever get that one, Encore on Steam or other consoles is the superior version) but even despite the flaws, I enjoyed the game so much. I hope it gets more recognition for it's fun combination of music, gameplay, and characters, especially as you really learned about them. Also I loved the little commercials for each artist and how you can just watch them.
Started playing NSR in June 2021 and just got ADDICTED to it (specially with DJ Subatomic Super Nova) and all the way through Encore Edition. Easily my top game of all 2021. NSR will live on my heart and memory forever as one of the greatest and most memorable game I’ve played, and boy do I have listened to the soundtrack a lot! 💜
I remember my introduction of this game was just Dj Subatomic Supernova And Sayu’s boss fights and without hesitation I bought the game and absolutely loved it , to its art style and interactions , to its obvious seller the music, definitely a nice single player boss rush to enjoy for all , cannot be disappointed experiencing this game blind
I was originally drawn in because of how character designs are so different and dynamic, but then I listened to the OST and I was just FLOORED with how good they were. Indeed a underrated gem.
I gotta admit, I was really worried that this game was going to have one of those pretentious “rock is authentic and EDM is straight trash and you have shit taste in music if you like it” messages. I’m so glad that turned out not being the case!
I absolutely adore this game, the story and music are so good, the holday update being a whole rework of all the bosses with new models for the characters and stages was awesome, and I really like the way the creators allowed the Fans to be a part of the Encore edition of the game, it really shows just how passionate the creators of the game are about their game with just how much effort and care they put into it
No Straight Roads is absolutely amazing!!! ^^ It's been a while since I played the game and I've gotta get back into it Wonder if it'll get a sequel at some point in the future?
Ive already known about this game and I do love this game ,I'm so glad people are talking about this game ,it truly is so underrated, such a hidden gem 😭😭😭 i don't have this game but ive seen so many videos of no straight roads and have listened to every single song in this game I'm Spotify & YT ,but legit did not know about the lil details like the rock ver being played when they had the advantage in the boss battles and the solos that match the game bosses background:O
I remember seeing trailers of this game back then, it was really fun and bright, so much so and blends well with the music especially when the music turns on the rock version of a song! Oh! If you are looking for some action and rhythm games here are some I remember that are upcoming or already exist: sword of symphony (more of orchestral), Billie Bust up (musical like game), and Everhood (electro and more rpg based)
When I discovered this game existed, I waited for about a year so I could manage to play it while avoiding any spoilers so I could get the full reaction. I was amazed by just, everything. Yinu being easily my favourite, her whole story it behind those curtains and the stage itself. The ending, while obvious, really made an impact because it was not what I expected to end up like. I also loved how you can achieve each musician backstory with the modes and that makes you really want to play if you are invested in that character. Dude, I felt really bad because I didn't like Eve at all the first time I played, then I played again, and again, and her backstory with the elements in her District... She became my second favorite. Easily one of my favorite games of all time. Edit: Sorry if it's long, but I'm just so glad to find someone talking about this masterpiece. And also, I liked the video so, yeah 👍.
funny thing is, this game is made by a Malaysian game company and Malaysia loves Rock and has it’s own genre “Jiwang” which is kinda like rock. And the thing that starts the whole story is that Rock gets banned
YOU ONLY HAVE 366 SUBSCRIBERS? I'm legitimately surprised that you have so low, I just stumbled upon you as per the algorithm but you have such an in-depth view with your video essays and it really made me think that it was made by a professional, keep it up my guy.
WHOO! FANTASTIC video! I had to wait until the end to comment, it was very well put together (alongside using the NSR OST throughout, hahah)! I felt that all the points made here really resonated with me and how I also feel about this game! It's SO good. More people should definitely play it. It ROCKS. I liked the depth this also went into, as much of what sold me on the game hit the same notes here! Mind the puns, great vid :D
I wish the game was longer or became a series because i love this game so much. I was obsessed with it in quarantine and never shut up about it but i got bored of it after i finished the game. There wasn’t much to do except complete challenges for the same songs over and over. I hope some day the developers do something more with this game
Always like to see more appreciation for NSR, definitely an underrated gem indeed. BPM Bullets per Minute is also a game I think you'd like, give it a shot.
I really like this game, conceptually and it has incredible details, if they added more in bigger functions it could have been even better but little details are worth more when you find it even if it won’t always be found
This game deserves more attention. Your enthusiasm for it is felt and I'm very happy to have found more content for it presented so well. Subscribing! Let's make you big, King.
I got this game a little while ago to play with my younger sister, as there aren't many games that she enjoys playing on the playstation, we both really enjoyed it but the lack of a split-screen did often mean that we struggled where we shouldn't have really and we only did the first 3 bosses, I do want to pick it back up again tho and finish it myself
Decent vid brother. wasn't even 5 min in and the premise and art were enough to sell me lmao bought it and beat it, and now im back to finish watching. thanks for bringing this wonderful game to my attention. cheers.

I even plan to stream it on my twitch once I get my RUclips going again, thank you so much for bringing back this underrated game with an amazing soundtrack! Bunka! Junka! Shaka-laka BAM! 🎸🥁 Side note: I also made my own NSR persona, I'll prolly make a video with a brief introduction about her ^^
I'm a little late to the party, but it's good to see people start to make more content about this game. I've been in love with it since launch, and with all the love that not only the devs, but even the VAs put into the game. It's heartwarming. Heck, the VAs did a whole Among Us stream as made their usernames the characters they voiced. It's awesome to see this community getting more people, and I only hope that Metrotomik gets more praise and attention with their upcoming projects. ( Edit: obviously I have preferences for the music but BOY it all slaps. )

Ironically,it reminds me a lot of “Hi-Fi Rush” even though that just came out. My cousin recommended it to me and I love the voice actors in that game but I don’t have Xbox or a decent PC. So I guess, for now, I’m stuck playing No Straight Roads first.
NSR 4TH ANNIVERSARY SOOOOOON
I am so happy to see someone talk about this amazing game, my experience was with the original on Switch (never ever get that one, Encore on Steam or other consoles is the superior version) but even despite the flaws, I enjoyed the game so much. I hope it gets more recognition for it's fun combination of music, gameplay, and characters, especially as you really learned about them. Also I loved the little commercials for each artist and how you can just watch them.
AAAAAAAAAAAAA YOU DON'T KNOW HAPPY THIS MAKES ME! NSR IS ONE OF THE GAMES I ALWAYS COME BACK TO, AT LEAST WITH THE SOUNDTRACK.
I have personally connection to this game as friend of mine brother did some music for this game (Andy Tunstall) just show it a small world.
DJSS FANS LESGOOOOOOO
Saw this review. Bought the game an hour ago. Loving it so far! I spent like 5 minutes just jamming to that first boss music.
Saaaaame. I fell in love with Dj SS fight alone, and I ended up buying the game shortly after
With the 4th Anniversary coming up in the next few days, I hope NSR truly gets revived once again. I miss this universe, I miss Vinyl City.
WOAH THIS GAME LOOKS WAY UP MY ALLEY :0
i absolutely adore games that have dynamic soundtracks so I'm definitely gonna check this game out, great review!
@@TheGuyCreates You won't be disappointed, 🎶🎶🎶
Finally someone actually talks about this!
No Straight Roads is one of those vibes that match SSX 3, SSX tricky, & Tony Hawk.
You've convinced me to try this game out .
Yes; Tree Palm is so good with Future Funk, and I love it
I absolutely adore this game, the story and music are so good, the holday update being a whole rework of all the bosses with new models for the characters and stages was awesome, and I really like the way the creators allowed the Fans to be a part of the Encore edition of the game, it really shows just how passionate the creators of the game are about their game with just how much effort and care they put into it
SAYU’S song is literally on my INTENSE workout playlist!!! 😂🤣
Best part of the video: 4:10
Ive recently got into this game...and im just like..."Where have you been all my life?"
All in favor of a NSR /Pyconuts cross-over
No Straight Roads is absolutely amazing!!! ^^
It's been a while since I played the game and I've gotta get back into it
Wonder if it'll get a sequel at some point in the future?
You said it there ^^
Man, I hope it does
Ive already known about this game and I do love this game ,I'm so glad people are talking about this game ,it truly is so underrated, such a hidden gem 😭😭😭 i don't have this game but ive seen so many videos of no straight roads and have listened to every single song in this game I'm Spotify & YT ,but legit did not know about the lil details like the rock ver being played when they had the advantage in the boss battles and the solos that match the game bosses background:O
tatania, its tatiana got me laughing on the floor🤣🤣
BRO I WAS LITTERALLY SHOCKED EHEN I SAW ALMOST NO FANART OR RECOGNIZEMENT ABOUT THIS GAME I LOVED NSR
I got the deluxe edition the art book and the drum sets and the vinyl it came with are so rad!
Man I should really get the deluxe edition
YEEES! YES! PLS GIVE THIS GAME THE ATTENTION IT NEEDS!
This game just goes hard for no reason other then it can and it will
And by god I love it
I remember seeing trailers of this game back then, it was really fun and bright, so much so and blends well with the music especially when the music turns on the rock version of a song! Oh! If you are looking for some action and rhythm games here are some I remember that are upcoming or already exist: sword of symphony (more of orchestral), Billie Bust up (musical like game), and Everhood (electro and more rpg based)
Man, NSR is a brilliant game ^^
I hope it gets a sequel
Although the game is amazing as it is, I think with a bigger budget and more time, it could've been an absolute masterpiece.
I FORGOT TO COMMENT T_T this game looks super sick1 can't wait to give it a play sometime in 2022!
Mind the puns, great vid :D
this game inspired me so much and i thank you for exposing it to me
I wish the game was longer or became a series because i love this game so much.

“Full of nonstop BANERS”
I’m sorry but that mispronunciation was funny.
Yeah! Someone's actually talking about thus game!
1010 is also binary for 10
Love that
Yoooo i remember seeing alot art of these characters but i had no idea they were from a game they looked so cool 😅
Decent vid brother. wasn't even 5 min in and the premise and art were enough to sell me lmao bought it and beat it, and now im back to finish watching. thanks for bringing this wonderful game to my attention. cheers.
YEESSSS FINALLY!! I was just about to say why doesn't anyone know about this game at all!
I even plan to stream it on my twitch once I get my RUclips going again, thank you so much for bringing back this underrated game with an amazing soundtrack!
Bunka! Junka! Shaka-laka BAM! 🎸🥁
Side note: I also made my own NSR persona, I'll prolly make a video with a brief introduction about her ^^
The guitar and drum solos is such a cool touch I never noticed
Happy to finally see the video doing numbers! :D
( Edit: obviously I have preferences for the music but BOY it all slaps. )
I fucking love this game, I like how the protags aren't exactly the heroes, that's always a fun subversion to make.
Also yeah 1010 are pretty hot but I like their boss more hehe
HAVING THIS RECOMMENDED TO ME AND WATCHING IT OFC MADE ME SO HAPPY TO SEE THAT THERE'S MORE FANS TO MY FAVORITE GAME NOW AND HOW ITS GROWING IT DESERVES SO MUCH LOVE AND I ADORED HOW YOU NOTICE SO MUCH THING THAT MAKES IT SO UNIQUE AND FUN TY 💗
