the secret to real movie popcorn is an ingredient called Flavacol. It's the secret stuff they use at the theater that they don't want you to know about. You can order it on amazon long with your coconut oil.
I got this for Christmas 2015, I love the pop corn it makes, darn near close to what you get at the movies, I pop with coconut oil. I might return to get a larger one,. It took 1hr 15 mins to pop 15 batches. That made about 6 - 1 gal bags. I like to store it and eat it within a week. The 2.5 model seems like a toy for kids :)
Watch the video Nostalgia has for how to use the machine if you want the correct info, it clearly states to turn the machine on to warm it up for 3-4 minutes before adding the oil and kernals.
That’s really weird. My mother was a manager of a movie theatre for twenty five years. You never heat it before adding oil.you get sprays that will burn horrendously. You add your ingredients in the real ones and then let it heat.
You can make popcorn with just a hot pot on the stove. add oil etc. (it just doesn't have the container to fall into) - like the retro styled popcorn machine. Which does look good. I bet it tasted good too.
Hey! Great video:D I am actually working with these everyday because i work on a tivoli! And btw the receipt for getting real american popcorn is using butter and wait until the butter has melted, afterwords you are going to mix the corn and the salt/butter salt (can buy on ebay) and then pour it in! TIPS: to get real crispy and good popcorn you have to pop with the door open:D just a little professional tip to make real american popcorn! Really enjoyed the video man:-)
Too rough with handling and too anxious plus I don't think you cleaned it out first or pre warmed it. but I must say at least yours has a light and was only 40$ I bought one similar with no light and 65$ also I would've loved to seen all the popcorn fill the area just to get a feel of everything ( I bought my girls one and it was shipped to NYC ) so I didn't really have a chance to check it out
Make sure you're using the correct ratio of oil/kernels for your size kettle (generally 1 tbs oil per 1/4 cup kernels). Also make sure the stirrer is spinning during the cooking process, that is what is supposed to prevent burning. Lastly use coconut oil for best results (this is what movie theaters use to pop their popcorn) and for the exact movie experience use the movie theater industry standard, a special butter flavored popcorn salt called Flavacol (can be found on Amazon). I hope this helps.
The machine seems to fog up while popping the corn, condensation from heat and steam. I think this would make the popcorn not as crisp & slightly soggy. Also, I think there would be an oily build up on the interior plastic & metal parts over time of useage. This type of corn popper may look cute & novel, but it's not pratical for daily use. I'll stay with using an air popper = crisper texture, & kettle stove poppper = more tasty, plus the clean up is much easier using these methods.
I have one by nostalgia electronics (different model/aesthetic design but same concept) and i can tell you there is no issue with the texture of the popcorn. It comes out just as crisp as the theater. That being said I'm pretty sure the air poppers are a lot easier to clean and maintain. This stuff probably tastes similar to what you can do with your kettle stove popper, but there's the convenience of it being contained and not having to actually stand there stirring it. My issues with my popper are the cleaning and the fact that the smaller machines like this don't have a way of filtering out unpopped kernels. The kernels pop with the same force as a larger machine, but because they have a shorter distance to travel, once popping starts, a lot of unpopped kernels get pushed out of the machine.
It kills me when people do these videos and they can't even say how much oil they put in or how much popcorn why don't you tell us why you're putting in the ingredients

+Monica Marsden really?
+Monica Marsden you have the right answer :)
Yep. This is what we use at the theatre we work at.
Flavacol is not an ingredient its a Brand of salt, Flavacol the substance is made from Aspergillic Flavus which is an anti-bacterial anti-fungal...
They sell it at my market basket.

Which one you ended up getting?

My machine works pretty well but it seems to kick out a bunch of uncooked kernels, and ideas on how to make it better so this doesn't happen ?

I believe it says to WASH FIRST somewhere in the instructional manual. That would prevent the foam pieces from mixing with popcorn.........just a FYI

Mine does that too
You proper popping oil instead of vegetable oils. Also you can move the pan with the knob while kernels are cooking to ensure even cooking.
Thank you
Hey I just got one of these from a yard sale. How do you clean the kettle?
This video made me hungry

Do you need to add the vegetable oil or can you do it without the oil. Thanks
Add oil or there's risk of burning the unit
It kills me when people do these videos and they can't even say how much oil they put in or how much popcorn why don't you tell us why you're putting in the ingredients
