Only two pair of pants and shirt? Did 5 caminos and on every camino, i have had stuff disappear from the clothes line while drying. I also take a length of line and clothes pins for drying. ALWAYS use rain pants! And i always carry a sleeping pad for those nights when there are no bunks left but the floor is available. I saw people use a rain "wraparound skirt" lately, you just strap it around your waste and it goes down as long as you like. I'm not sure if they can be bought or are made diy, but seems to be a great light weight solution to keep your pants from getting soaking wet in a heavy down pour. The PowerBank is an extra which could be easily avoided, as all the albergues have electricity- and I have few batteries to charge as I record during the Camino.. and FAK... I use few things, the rest it can be bought on the way. At least this is how I do it, but you know, there are thousands way to" use the same spoon " 😃
Hola Ricky! Your videos are the greatest. I am hoping to walk in 2023. My one concern has been the so-called "bed race." I would prefer not to reserve ahead and just let the Camino provide. I appreciated your video on this, as it seemed that you always find a bed. But, have there been times when you had to sleep rough? Wild camp? Sleep Inn a churchyard?
Hi Len! Thanks for the feedback :) the bed race is in the most busy routs (sarria-santiago, last 119 km) in the busy period of may-aug... but, there ard plenty of albergues in the villages around bigger cities where people normally stay, do it's a matter to plan your trip differently than all other pilgrims that stick to the main stopping points. Anyways, once you here, you can reserve one day ahead if it's really busy ;) hugs and hope to see you on the Camino!
I did the Del Norte last summer. We always found a place to stay. Some places limited their beds do to Covid but we always found a place. One time, the town had no open spots but I think we only had to walk another mile or little more to get a bed.
Having walked the Camino Frances twice, I would have to say that there are many sleeping amenities along the Way. The next village with accomodations is usually another 3, 5, 8 or at most another 10 km away so it is just a matter of keeping on walking to reach the next accommodations. There is also mass transit and taxi services if you find yourself in an pinch. And finally, some albergues will find a space on the floor for you to sleep on when needed. Finally, another option is to wait until morning to book your albergue. But if you are interested, there are people who have bivouacked the entire Camino Frances.
LLEVEN TOALLA 😅😅😅😅😉🙏
I'm a new Camino hiker and I'm landing in Lisbon. I've written down your recommendations. You are so engaging! Sleeping bag! Which do you recommend by weight? I'm trying for less than 1kg. Also, shoes. Everyone tells me a different story. I'm doing the Portuguese central from Lisbon to Santiago de Compostela. Which shoes? And which socks other than merino? People tell me to get Injinji liner toe socks. Ix that Important?
Hello Sandra, thanks for your message! As for the sleeping bag: we use one from decathlon which is approx 600g, but you can also check the sleeping linen. Shoes: check our video about shoes, it can help you! Erica uses new balance 6 hierro and before she had Merrell. We use trail running shoes, which are more versatile and flexible for all kind of terrain, perfect for the Portuguese way. Socks: you can also opt for hiking socks (again, we use the ones from decathlon). Hope it helps 😊

Such a great video and i just love your sense of humour! Did you bring any further sleeping gear, like a sleeping bag or liner or was everything provided in the hostels during this time? :)
Thanks a lot! I manage to get a blanket each time it was cold... but if you choose to stay in municipal albergues its a russian rulete.. the sheets are always there for extra 1 e, and a pro tip.. in the morning, you can pack them and use for a next albergue :)
Your posts are great fun. Thanks. Please tell me if you would take a liner/pillow for sleeping in alburgues. I hear stories of fleas??? Also - a pair of flip flops for moving around albergues and outside locally. Are these necessary? Bien viajes.
Big thanks to you Mike for the feedback! I met some people who had problems witb bed bugs, but it is a rare event. Normally albergues provide some sort of sheets and pillow, so I wont take any, but... all depands on the person. Regarding flip flops, nice to have a pair and relax the after the long walk. They are an essential gear for me! hope it is usefull and I will include more of these question in next videos. Buen Camino

Thanks Kevin! There are places to wash in every albergue, with some soap you will be fine. And once a few days I use the washing machine. The important factor is the fast drying fabric! Hugs
Your videos or absolutely great, fantastic job! I bought this backpack for my next year Camino. I was wondering how do you find it? Is it a good choice? Cheers x
The bag has to be well adjusted to your size, resting on your hips and… nearly empty! Once it’s there it will be ok with any bag… I have already tried 3 different once, and this is my criteria;) hugs
You’re very funny - thanks for the video! I’m doing my first cameo soon - Do you carry laundry soap or is it available at the albergues? Do you bring walking poles, bed liner, or sandals for the evenings?
Thanks for the kind words Angela! The Laudndry soap or powder is not widely available in the albergues but they do have some powder sometimes or normal soap, should not be a problem...all the places that we ve been to, had some sort of bed liners so if you do not require a silk bed sheets, dont worry ... and about the poles, we did a full video as the subject is complexed. Hope you will enjoy your Camino and if you have anu questions, we are here to help... buen Camino
Hi Ricky, Love your great videos, some of the best I have watched on the Camino. First time camino walker from New Zealand starting in July walking Norte/Primitivo. Planning to stay in albergues if possible however should I pack a tent incase they are full being a holy year and peak time? Muchas gracias Kim
Hi Kim! Welcome onboard :) Norte/Primitivo is not the busiest Camino, so you might be sound. If not there are plenty of big towns around where you can get a tent in reasonable cost. Closer to get to santiago, more busy it becomes, especially the Santiago itself. Booking your stay in santiago around 25th(holy days) is a must. hope I could help a bit. :) hugs
Merino socks are always with me, they naturally regulate the temperature inside of my shoes… however how thick will they be is a different story. There are many thick hiking socks that obviously I wouldn’t use in summer. The new “smart-wool” running merino are great for that! The jacket (light feather in this case) depends on the Camino you walk. It can be exchanged for a polar too…
Barry! how are you? the nation post office makes this type of service, and on the website you can find all the useful iinfo : www.elcaminoconcorreos.com/es/consigna-santiago buen camino
Hi Philip! If your backpack has a water cover, jacket should be enough. Yo can always get an umbrella... as many people do! To save space, i take a poncho and it covers my bag :) which Camino will you do?
Nowadays, to minimise the weight I would only use a longer rain poncho. There are some with longer front which protects from rain, mostly. Obviously, rain trousers are the most water proof options, and many of them are designed to put them on with the shoes on, so when the rain surprise you, you can surprise the rain and jump into rain trousers ;) which camino are you planning?
Hola Ricky, I'll go for my Camino del Norte in July 2022. May I know do you use fanny bag (waist pouch to keep your cash, credit cards & important documents) when walking the Camino? Also, do you sleep with fanny bag attached with you too?
Camino del Norte? Wow, it is a great route! I walk it last year and I'll be repeating, no doubt! The vasc way can be a good hike ;) Keeping the belongings close by is always a good idea. Camino is reasonably a safe environment but being street wise is always a virtue! Follow your instinct, thats the best advice I can give and remember that sometimes money is only a piece of paper that we give a value to... big hugs!
Hi, appreciate your advise and videos. Going on Frances beginning late March. Hiking pants seem to be really light, or should I look for heavier hiking pants for this time of year?

Hellooo! Sleepers or flip flops are definitely one of the thing I forgot to mention! Thank you for your advice and experience. Great video and content. Looking forward to hearing more
Thanks for the great feed! I m now making a Camino of.... and soon I ll publish it. Big surprise ;)
Hi there, fun video :-D couldn´t see any towel or did I miss that part of the video? Buen Camino!
thats soooo true! I I knew I forgot about something... fast drying towel is a wise option. Thanks for the advice, big hug
Hola!
LLEVEN TOALLA 😅😅😅😅😉🙏
Can I take a tent with me to porto camping?
Should I take tent and sleeping bag?
Do you have a shopping list to buy the gear you use? What size is the backpack?
hi! How are you? when are you planning your adventure? Under this end every video there is affiliation link list of my gear, and if you subscribe to our newsletter apart of great tips about Camino, we also send Free packing list checklist pdf, which can be useful when preparing for any long distance hike. @@caminotellers Thank you for your kind reply, I just found out that the camino exist, I was given a book Finding Love On The Camino, and since then watch a movie, many youtube videos and yours rock, So I am getting a idea of what do i need, but it will be in the short future. I will have you couching in mind for when I am ready. Thank You
You’re hilarious! Thank you for your videos. May I ask what the sizes of the orange and green dry bags are?
Thanks a lot! We have lots of fun doing our videos :) btw, the bags are 8l… hugs
@@caminotellers Grazie mille!
Buen Camino
What is a “washing tweezer”?
These are the clips which you use when hanging your dry cloths. Super pro important!
Like a lot of the comments here, you are someone I would like to meet! I’ll be walking the way September to mid October, paying penance to Barney Boy. Keep smiling at grimness!
Terryyy ❤️❤️❤️ thanks for the comment!! We would like to get to know you more 🤗 join our live session today at 7pm GMT (or every Thursday). Here's the link: ruclips.net/user/livemYj5Ft7ZPPk?feature=share
Great video. What is your system for washing clothes, which bag do you use?
Thanks Kevin! There are places to wash in every albergue, with some soap you will be fine. And once a few days I use the washing machine. The important factor is the fast drying fabric! Hugs
Your videos or absolutely great, fantastic job! I bought this backpack for my next year Camino. I was wondering how do you find it? Is it a good choice? Cheers x
The bag has to be well adjusted to your size, resting on your hips and… nearly empty! Once it’s there it will be ok with any bag… I have already tried 3 different once, and this is my criteria;) hugs
What about a sleeping sheet/cocoon which I thought was required at some albergues?
In all albergues you get the sheets, they are one time use only. In some fancy onces you get the cotton sheets. As per my little experience. Hugs
Hope you will enjoy your Camino and if you have anu questions, we are here to help... buen Camino
@@caminotellers thanks for the info! I will check out your video on hiking poles

:) hugs
What is the backpack that you use? Can you tell me the brand and model? Thanks.
Nowadays I use osprey stratos 26l…. It’s a great piece of technology !
Thanks, RIcky. I am really enjoying your videos. I'm planning on doing the Camino Portuguese next springs @@caminotellers
do you really need that jacket or the merino socks if you're doing camino in the summer?
Merino socks are always with me, they naturally regulate the temperature inside of my shoes… however how thick will they be is a different story. There are many thick hiking socks that obviously I wouldn’t use in summer. The new “smart-wool” running merino are great for that! The jacket (light feather in this case) depends on the Camino you walk. It can be exchanged for a polar too…
where did you buy those little bags? Are they waterproof? What do you call those little bags?
These are the dry bags, check the links in the description
Hi fellow pilgrim can you tell me if there any place I can leave a bag in Santiago that I can pickup at the end of my hike from sarria?thank you
Barry! how are you? the nation post office makes this type of service, and on the website you can find all the useful iinfo : www.elcaminoconcorreos.com/es/consigna-santiago
buen camino
Mad as a mongoose, but all good advice!
Take care and stay safe 🇬🇧
Thanks Steve :)
It would definitely look different… maybe next year we do a little video about that 😉 hugs
Great video! Do you recommend a rain jacked and poncho, if walking in July/August, or just rain jacket?
Hi Philip! If your backpack has a water cover, jacket should be enough. Yo can always get an umbrella... as many people do! To save space, i take a poncho and it covers my bag :) which Camino will you do?
@@caminotellers It does and Frances. Thank you :)
@@phillipbrightmore4257 super! Enjoy and maybe see you on the way
Do you change pant for the rain or put rain pants on top ?
The vasc way can be a good hike ;)
Keeping the belongings close by is always a good idea. Camino is reasonably a safe environment but being street wise is always a virtue! Follow your instinct, thats the best advice I can give and remember that sometimes money is only a piece of paper that we give a value to... big hugs!
@@caminotellers Noted Ricky, muchas gracias por consejos. This is indeed my first time having Camino and long walk in my life!! 😅
@@pablodavet.6096 if you have other question, don't doubt to ask ;) and walk(prepare) before as the Camino del norte is a good hike!
Hi, appreciate your advise and videos. Going on Frances beginning late March. Hiking pants seem to be really light, or should I look for heavier hiking pants for this time of year?
Hello Patrick, we are going to answer to your question on our next live session, today at 7pm GMT: ruclips.net/video/wPm5fuX0sEA/видео.html

30L. A good enough size for 3 season walking.

What about different kinds of hats? You didn't mention anything about them.
Thanks for reminding, so many details to have in mind! The straw hat with a big rim is a must in the summer time! Spain can get sunny. There are also different types of hiking hats with a neck protection which seem to be used by pilgrims too. But yes, I ll take one with me! Which is the Camino you do?

Hi Ricky, great video! Did you not bring any other footwear, like slippers? Also, on the day itself, besides water, would you bring a certain type of food? Thanks!
Hellooo! Sleepers or flip flops are definitely one of the thing I forgot to mention! And with the food…it all depends on what do you eat: if you a vegan or vegetarian you might take some extra nuts.. otherwise there are many options on the way. Some people who’s sugar can get low, tend to get some sweets 🍫… but remember, every extra item you get, you will have to Carry with you ;) hugs

Excellent content! Thank you for sharing! I have a recommendation. Perhaps you could post links to the equipment you are showing? You could make them affiliate links so that you earn a little something when your viewers purchase. I personally would be happy to follow these links and send a little $$ your way. Thanks for the feedback! I didnt think about that but it could be a good idea if it could help :) thanks mr. Ghoti

Don’t you need towels at the Camino?
yep, yo do... and I need some extra memory to remember all that i should say... hahhaha hugs

@gnomad5922 the towel was one of the things that we forgot to add ;) after recording the video it was to late to add it :( check this video -ruclips.net/video/dAjiW0yHUIA/видео.htmlsi=f8Zbl7WOmxS-7j-J
So no camping gear whatsoever? I assume you stay in hostels, and don't use a tent or tarp?
I'm planning on walking the Camino Frances but not using hostels, to make the experience more like the original pilgrimage, I think the route with bars, cafés, hostels etc takes something away from the experience.
Thanks
You will always find campers, but it’s true that I’ve seen more on Camino del Norte..
Lumberjack wedding 😂
Upsss ;)
Do you need a towel??
Yes of course. Go to the videos description and you'll see which one we use: practical and lightweight!!
Must have a red beard!!
