@@DaysWeSpend hahahah we’ve also laughed soooo much when creating ! Hopefully it wasn’t yet ANOTHER packing video. Sometimes is difficult to be creative year after year ☺️☺️🥰 Today is Erica’s Packing List video coming, a totally different vibe, let us know what you think!
This was great! And so fun to see you! Love the fact that you can lose 10 years with the cap turned backwards....I am going to try that and see how I feel LOL. I love how streamlined your packing is. I always was aiming for 10% but now....7% woohoo!! Big love to the three of you!
Great video. After previously getting down to less than 10% of body weight, including snacks and water, just at REI last week talking to an associate about further cutting weight. The 7% goal is an excellent standard.
Thank you for sharing! This was great information for practical packing that I will certainly keep in mind. I will be walking the Frances in June, do you think the down jacket is necessary during that time?
It really depends of how weather sensitive you might be, but in those months I would rather take a fleece and … small windbreaker as often cold is caused by wind!
Thanks Ricky, I learned after my first camino the important question why am I taking that stuff!!! I was 6.3kg with bag. The last ones I was 3kg. Pretty much the same as you. Had silk sleep sack, toe socks in my sock system...stopped a blister at top of a toe, used vicks on feet most days and had 160g umbrella disposable poncho and rain jacket. Like you said everything has to have multi use...I used shampoo for hair, clothes and showers. The only thing I am taking extra on top is a nail brush... weighs 30gm and can clean my shoes 👞. Interesting sleep quilt looks technical and extensive. My backpack was 680gms with a frame. Great vid as always big hugs and live life large. Hope you get to do the VdP...maybe you can take the fur baby.
@@caminotellers I think the length was just right. You provide a lot of information that answers a lot of questions. I shared it with my Whatsapp group that I created for our upcoming October trip.
Ricky, I love your videos and I've learned so much from them. I have a shoe question. I am 67 and I'm a bit chubby. In my street shoes I wear a 10 1/2. In running shoes I've always worn an 11. On my walk on the Via Francigena I wore Altra Olympus size 11 1/2. They were pretty good. I needed the length at the end of the day, but I found them a little sloppy especially on the downhills. You're recommending Brooks Calderas. I like the padding they seem to have. I wore Brooks Cascadia (size 11) for a long time as my trail runners. I'm wondering if you would suggest going up to an 11 1/2 like I did in the Altras. It's a challenge to get them because no one in my community has them for me to try. I'll have to mail order them.
David! The difference between calderas and cascadia is huge- the amount of cushion is not only visible but also I can feel it. Cascadia gives me more ground feel and precision where caldera is like 4x4… The size in both is the same, the only difference is how will you use them, which Camino will you do? I also wear 11,5 in both. I tried a half a number bigger but the foot was to loose. it’s interesting how easily you can switch between drop 0 on altras and drop 8 on brooks, with no major changes? I didn’t wear altras so it’s hard to compare them with the what I tried.
@@caminotellers I'll be walking the Magna Via Francigena from Palermo to Agrigento. The change in the drop will be concerning but I have until May to train. The Altra is the first and only zero drop shoe I've worn. For clarification, you chose a half or a whole size up?
My backpack was at 7kg. I could reduce the weight for the next time. But as you said, depends on the time of the year. For summer 5kg would be more than enough. I recomend to take only the necessary food and water for the day. And for the electronics only one power brick but with a few usb connections.
LOL that downhill you used trekking poles for on the primitivo I actually ran with a 7kg backpack on last year. It was so much fun! :D My first camino was great! Can't wait to do del norte! Keep it up, guys!
This was really helpful, detailed and based on experience video-thank yuo very much for it, it really means a lot. I have a question about the footwear in other seasons, after you finish the hike for the day and take a shower in flip flops, do you have another lightweight pair of shoes to go to the town? I gues that in march or october or even colder months you cant wander around town in flip flops? This questin really troubles me... Can you maybe make a video about solution for this?
Thanks a lot! Your question is great, we live in the Canary Islands so we are used to walk with flip flops all year round, even if cold. However it’s not everyone’s case. Maybe some shoes that could be waterproof for shower and lightweight to carry around? If you need a lightweight solution, the rocky beach shoes could be a solution…
Can you explain how you use the quilt in the albergues where the have the plastic matresses? Do you need an extra liner? Is it open on the top or underneath?
I carried a 6.5 kilo pack excluding water and food. I quickly found out that apples and bananas are HEAVY. I ate those quickly if I carried them for snacks. I’d take a sleep sack instead of a sleeping bag and not take a power bank either.
Have you been able to try a camino or any other walk with your newly-found lightweight packing stuff ? On the San Salvador (June 2024), your backpack weighed 9 kg. I am very interested in your "after the packing diet" comments. Having suffered through 6 caminos with overpacking, overweight packs, this is a "make it or break it" pre-condition for my next venture : de la Plata to Leon, San Salvador and Primiitivo, consecutive caminos. 🤨
Hello Marcos. The 9kg on the San Salvador were because of all the food we had to pack for the days without bar/restaurants/supermarkets. So basically most of the weight was all food and snacks. In vía de la plata, San Salvador and Primitivo there are some stages where you’ll need to do the same if there are no services
THIS OFFER IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. I saw two of your videos and got this error page msge. One for the PDF of the Camino San Salvador (The lost...) and the other for this one right here. Can you look into these. Thanks in advance.
Hello @@marcosxosx ! Probably was Omnisend's temporary issue (?). Glad they resolved it. You should have received the San Salvador pdf guide and gps tracking by email, if not, please email us at hello@caminotellers.com! Big hugs!
Great question! I use a bigger pack for the longer Caminos as it lighter, and for some stages I can pack much more food. The smaller one is great as it also helps me to keep organised ☺️
Isn't it part of the problem of the camino, that with all the new fancy light weight gear, the trail becomes suitable for a large scale of people that aren't 'really' hikers?
Actually it’s the oposite( in our opinion), thanks to this ultra fancy light equipment many more people can walk with backpacks and actually make their camino dream a reality.
First time I went to Palencia and I was trying to buy my camino house I was totally paranoid I would lose my passport. I have since overcome that fear. Great video. I have that Colopaxi bag in a different color and it worked great in Paris a couple of weeks ago!! I felt very safe with it.

Because that pack is half the weight of the other pack.
