Favorite drummer on the internet, and it's not even close. Your videos - from content, to delivery, to production - are just perfect man. Thank you for the hard work!
Tell you what, taking care of my drums, restoring, cleaning, changing heads and making them look as beautiful as possible is one of my favorite things. It makes me feel so connected to my instrument.
Excellent tips. The only thing I'd do differently is use *Lithium Grease* (the cream, not spray) on the tension rods *instead of Vaseline,* because Vaseline will liquify in heat & not withstand temperature changes. Lithium Grease, on the other hand, is made for metal on metal contact & helps prevent rust & oxidation.
Solid tips about maintenance and tuning for drums, and very well shot and edited. Sweet little solo/groove at the end too 👍👍. Great stuff as always. Thanks Jeff
i've seen a bunch of your videos but this is the one that made me subscribe. inspired by your care, passion, and professionalism - not to mention your playing! the drums sound perfect, man. take care!
Jeff, you make fantastic content and they feel super informative. You are my biggest inspiration right now both with your playing and your gear! Thank you for being you!
@@JeffRandallDrumming Maybe you could make a video on how to make a really good contrast between ghost notes and rimshots and make drum fills like you're doing at 10:00? I'm practicing and while I can hit the drums it doesn't feel as fluid and it doesn't sound as good.
I’ve learned so much from your videos, and this channel. I would love to see a detailed video from you on how to attach the snare wires to the snare. This is a troublesome area for me and I think with your teaching style that I might just finally get it down. Thank you.
Hey Jeff! Im really enjoying the channel, and ALL of the great content you provide. I love the fact that youre making all of this work from inside a storage unit. Brilliant. Im actually now considering the same idea. Id love to know what size unit this is/was? It looks like just enough space for everything you need. And by the way, it SOUNDS fantastic in all of the recording you’ve done. Im a new subscriber, and I love the channel! Thanks Jeff!
Great production and flow, Jeff! Hopefully you can make a video about choosing and outfitting a rental storage space like you have. Looks like just the right amount of room and equipped with enough storage shelving (and electricity!). At the least, what facility/brand did you go with and what is the size of the storage locker you are using? Any noise complaints thus far?
Hi Jeff, I have a few trilogy kits and absolutely love them. I'm not normally a fan of diecast hoops on toms, but have found putting them on the reso side only the toms It gives a far greater tunning range. I did try it on top and bottom but I love triple flanged on top too much.
Hey Jeff, your content and drumming is very impressive, you should consider trying to get in contact with someone like drumeo to do a lesson to help grow your channel. Keep doing what your doing!
@@JeffRandallDrumming there are so many videos about tuning and great equipment, but noone talks about how to maintain the drums. And even as a professional drummer you mentioned some things I never heard or did- until today! Also the quality of the production is fantastic :) Thumbs up
Hi. Thanks for this informative information. I'm planning to get a new kit and this is very helpful for taking care of the drums. I have question. Is there an ideal temperature or humidity for a room? I read some discussions in reddit and most of them say that extreme temperature is bad and it will damage the drum shell. I live in Chicago and most weather here is cold Im wondering if how do you keep the temperature in a room so that the drum shell is in good condition? Both in hot and cold weather. I hope you can help me with this. Thank you..
Hey Jeff, thanks for the in-depth suggestions and tips! I have a question about your setup: in the past, I also used to put my rack tom on a snare stand. However, over time and with an increasing understanding of accoustics, I'm finding that it noticeably takes away from the tom's tone. Granted, I don't have a top-tier kit such as your Sakae, but I wonder if you A/B-tested this setup vs. hanging it from a proprietary tom-arm. If so, did you notice a significant difference there in terms of tonal quality? Thanks again and keep up the great content!
I don't use compressed air anymore. I now use my Dyson Vacuum cleaner with a small attachment so I suck up all the dust instead of blowing in further in or around the room. I've gotten pretty good and cleaning and polishing my drums. I just need to improve everything else...like playing.😁
Unless you take off all the lugs it hard to get it show room clean. When you take off all the lugs clean with bar keepers friend. Bar Keepers friend works magic on Chrome plated hardware, lugs and rims.
Although DW-40 and petroleum Jelly are not harmful, I'd recommend replacing both with white lithium grease. WLG is a better lubricant when it comes to metal on metal contact.
Hey Alain. I haven't experienced rust on my hardware as of yet. But I am very mindful of keeping things dry while I'm on the road and stored in hard cases.
@@ldcsam1 can humidity damage your drums..?? not insanely humid in my case. as i live in a fairly dry area but there are temperature changes and my storage room has slight insulation issues so it does almost feel a little dingy at times...

DAT low end on that floor tom. Gave me goosebumps. Pure awesomeness as always

I really needed that. I haven't cleaned my kit in ages. Not being a professional drummer let's me get away with being a lazy bastard 😁
And yes, I am a huge fan of practical videos like this.
Dude, you’re the shit.
super cool!!
Great video Jeff!
Aside from the drumming the video production is also pretty impressive. The time lapse, focusing, angles, sound quality, presentation. Very pro.

Nice and clean 🙂
Thank you 👍
Sounding really good
I’v had my Ludwig accent power kit since 2008 made in 2005. And I looked great after all these years

Yo Jeff I have the exact same kit, same finish and everything!
Right on Charlie! Love the look and the sound of those Sakae's. Wish the company made it.

"Lets DO THIS!!"
Mhm!
Try to use Aquarian Focus X coated 😊😊😊
Hey Jeff, have you ever used White Lithium Grease or just Petroleum Jelly?
wish you were based in Auckland, NZ
Super
I switched from WD-40 and now use a real lubricant like Tri-Flow. I also switched from Vaseline to white lithium grease.

Unless you take off all the lugs it hard to get it show room clean. When you take off all the lugs clean with bar keepers friend. Bar Keepers friend works magic on Chrome plated hardware, lugs and rims.
hey bro, what brand of polish is that?
I use a heat gun to seat my heads any thoughts on that..also great for getting rid of those pock marks in heads

Hey Jeff. Just wonderin' if you ever get rust on those dw stands on tour?
Hey Alain. I haven't experienced rust on my hardware as of yet. But I am very mindful of keeping things dry while I'm on the road and stored in hard cases.
Can you make a video showing your drum stuff?
What kind of stuff were you thinking?
Jeff Randall i see a lot of snares behind of you. Thats will be nice. Cymbals too.
do you happen to take inspiration from David Garibaldi? That groove had the slightest hint of his style in it.
What you think about cranking the snare reso to as tight as it can go?
That's a great way to go if you wanna make the snare really responsive and "crispy" sounding!
Are Drums Sensitive to temperature and/or humidity change like guitars are?????
Yes, they are.
@@ldcsam1 can humidity damage your drums..?? not insanely humid in my case. as i live in a fairly dry area but there are temperature changes and my storage room has slight insulation issues so it does almost feel a little dingy at times...
Nice! Those were some great tips. What kind of monitors do you have in your ears?
maybe use grease instead of wd 40 on your pedal
Dude you got to change the bottom snare too
Eh, I usually change the resonant heads about two or three times a year tops. The ones I have on should last a bit longer!
Do people ever wait for you to come out of your storage unit after you get done practicing lol ??
Bahaha, I’ve definitely had some looks while entering and leaving. I’m on a first name basis with all of the staff at this point!
Jeff Randall yea my anxiety is up all the time thinking my neighbors are going to call the cops. 🤦🏽♂️ the struggles of drummers.
The struggle is real man. Can’t wait to get a proper studio going. It’s on the bucket list for sure!
Jeff Randall cool man hope it works out for you. You are in Tennessee right?
Phillip Trammell I am indeed
Why am I watching this, I don't own a drumkit?
This is super gay not even neil peart took care of his drums like a cleaning lady
great video!
