I usually mix the olive oil, vinegar, salt, pepper and oregano in a small bowl to have all the ingredient integrated evenly like a dressing. Looks great. Thank you.
OMG! I just made this for my daughter and I!!! It is absolutely better than Subway!!!! No more subway for my family! Homemade from now on!! Thank you!!!!!
My mouth is watering. Looks so good. I would add hot cherry peppers and pickles. The crunchy bread is the most important thing along with the thinly sliced meat. Great video!!
The best sandwich in the world! I love an Italian sub, and yes, with Lays potato chips too. That is gorgeous, and since my son just unpacked the groceries, and all the ingredients are here, I'm making this for lunch. I make mine just like yours but only once in a while I will switch to mayonnaise just as a change of pace. (not often) I just realized that I have been leaving off the oregano and I have no idea why!! It will go in today, and your so right, the salt and pepper makes all the difference in the world too. It's so wonderful to see you, I've been really busy, and have missed a lot of videos, and this video is a reminder of just how much I have been missing. Wonderful video. Bless, Sheila
I love these sandwiches too and coin them as the best ones in the world !!! I like to also add thin rounds of crispy chilled dill pickle and a few banana peppers (as they are not that spicy to distract from the purity of this sando !). I also enjoy putting mortadella on this instead of ham (or both), and once the meat and cheese are on the sando, I put this and the other half of the roll (without the veggies) in the oven on super high heat (450) until the cheese melts and the roll is beginning to slightly toast on the edges but is still soft in the middle. At which point out it comes, I heap on the veggies, salt and pepper and oregano and EVVO plus red wine vinegar - more oregano (I love that flavor) - put the 2 sides together and slice it - then WHA LA ! A still warm sub with the contrasting crisp of the veggies and tang.- richness of the dressing.... THE BEST SANDO IN THE WORLD :-) And my last name is Sanguinetti so I should know LOL ! Cheers to you and all !!!
I saw in a video not too long ago that the secret to a good deli sub like this is to wrap it like they would in the sub shop for a while. I've tried it and I think they may be on to something, gives the ingredients/flavors time to mellow or develop.
French bread only has water, yeast, flour and salt (with sometimes trace amounts of dough conditioner). Italian bread often has other ingredients such as olive oil, milk and/or sugar. The result is French bread tends to be a little dryer with more crunch in the crust. Italian, on the other hand, tends to be softer with a chewy consistency.
Italian bread upto 2000 (or so on) could be called with the name "bread" BY LAW only if was made using water, yeast flour and salt, or exceptionally with olive oil, as a variant, if you declared in the ingedients you used oil while baking the dough, and containing no anything else. Any other kind of typical, regional or even fancy bread made using milk or olives, butter or nuts and so on, it could not be called "bread" but using its own peculiar name of baking product. Now this good law has been abolished as considered too much limiting for a modern free market (dunno if it was imposed by UE to do this), and personally I think it is a pity, as it opens literally a freeway for realizing any kind of disgusting products and called them as "bread"! Difference between french and italian breads is mainly another. Best part of french bread types are dry because french cuisine is rich of spread cremes and solid sauces, that you put on the bread with a knife, while italian cuisine is rich of liquid sauces that require a bread capable to absorb it, while spinning the bread crumbs around in the plate. But it is not a written rule as long as both the two european cuisines have plenty of soup recipes in which to pour any kind of dry or soft bread in it.
French bread more dry? Not sure where you got that. As far as the exterior crust goes. That is absolutely a result of the duration of proofing the dough and temp. French bread is allowed to rise more times. Recipes are similar.
It’s all the same shit if you get it at a grocery store lmao. Maybe you’ll notice the difference if you make it yourself but who tf is willing to do that just to make a sandwich lol
Many years ago a small Italian deli in Omaha made this exact same sandwich but added sliced green olives and served it on a hard roll ..out of this world delicious!
That wouldn't be Little King would it? I grew up on them and since we only have a few left, I started making my own just in case they up and disappeared on us.
Little King was very good the Deli I was talking about was called "amatos" located out around 84th. And Center,as I recall I think they closed somewhere around 1975...
This is good stuff. I normally take some of the bread out to form a pocket for the meat. Also I lay my prosciutto perpendicular to the bread and fold it over. That way you are bitting with the grain of the prosciutto and it makes it less stringy.
I love subs or hoagies as we called them up in PA where I grew up.. It was always hoagies or steak sandwiches on Friday nights... The only thing I would add to this is some pickles and maybe some mayo. Good to hear from you Jason!!
I love how there is an even layer of all ingredients from side to side. You get a bite of everything at once. Some sub shops have all the meat in the bottom and all the veggies on the top.
I love this video!!! I also hate the crunchy part of lettuce and throw it out. Those vegetables were cut perfectly! And that is how you cut an onion. Must remover the stem! This guy made my day!!!
This video reminded me that I can use olive oil & red wine vinegar instead of mustard & mayo. I don't often go to Subway so I had forgotten. I bought some black forest ham, salami, smoked turkey & Swiss cheese all from the deli section of the grocery store. Hoagie rolls, tomatoes, & shredded lettuce sealed the deal for a delicious lunch at home complete with a bag of chips & iced tea. Thanks!
I'm having friends over for a "build your own hoagie" lunch !! This is what I will be serving. I really like a grinders so I will be putting mine in the air fryer. CAN'T wait. I'm hungry now.
I love you! You are the BEST! Been a sub of yours for a while and you never disappoint. Thank you for sharing your gifts and wisdom and helping me keep my family feed and full.💋
Dude! That's a rocking sub right there! Was just thinking about you, haven't seen an upload from you in a while, thought you retired. Good to have CC back! Rock On!
As you said, the roll is the most important part. Not soft and bready like a hotdog bun, but crunchy on the outside and chewy inside. You need to pluck out some of the bread in order to make a hollow or pocket lengthwise so the filling will fit better. Add some dill pickle slices. No sub is complete without some Hot Pepper Hoagie Spread from a brand like Cento. Also pour your oil/vinegar mix onto the roll and saturate it so it drips out when you eat it. Everything else looks OK.
That looks wonderful. I make them similar. I do toast the inside of my bread. I love all my veggies thinly sliced as well. I wondered if you were going to use olive oil and you did! Never tried it with vinegar! Looks super fantastic Jason!!! Hugs!
I miss New Jersey. I always use to go to the corner deli’s or bodega’s to get myself a sandwich everyday after school with a can of Coke-Cola or a Snapple . My favorite childhood memories 🥺❤️
Thank you, a beautiful sandwich! I've been on a sub sandwich craving kick for awhile now. I would have added mayo and mustard as well. Great job. 0f course it's 2:00 am and I'm starving!
Awesome!!! I like a little honey mustard spread on the top and/or bottom. Wrap it up in wax paper or deli paper before cutting; makes it easier to eat without everything sliding out!!!
Dennis The joke is true. How do you know if a person is a vegan on a marine. They'll tell you even if you dont ask. I think a vegan would know not to put any meat on it.
I like mine with Genoa salami, capicollo, sopressata, ham, Mayo, lettuce, red onion, oil, vinegar, and a tiny bit of oregano. Also a nice slice of some strong provolone. On a nice baguette! Might not be authentic but it is damn good. Loved this vid made me hungry!
I made this tonight, to the letter, except, of course, I forgot to salt and pepper the whole thing! It wasn't bad. I'd ordered delivered groceries today, and got frozen baguettes and I didn't mean to, so back to the supermarket and found good, fresh real hero bread as here. I also had oregano but forgot that, too, since I was so intent on building the monstrosity. It wasn't bad. I don't like too much salt and used sliced prosciutto, so that was fine. I also had fresh sliced provolone from the market. Next time I'll remember oregano and seasoning, though. I could only finish one half. Not bad for a summer dinner. I need a new cutting board, and a new basic chef knife, too.

I usually put mayo on the bread and then I have a homemade mustard vinaigrette that I use in place of any other seasoning because the dressing takes care of that. It's my favorite sandwich.

I love Italian subs, and that's all I order when I go to a sandwich shop. I'll have to try this at home.
oh gosh you got me craving an italian sub, thumbs up!
I can't be the only one who noticed but your hands perfectly match your voice

very nice, here in Philadelphia we do not cut the bread all the way through, we leave a pocket in the bread and fill it with the goods.
I'd prefer the extra filling my friend
Feels wrong without Mustard, Mayonnaise and dill pickles... But I guess I should try to mix things up. Thanks for this.
Mayo is the most disgusting thin on earth 🤢🤢🤢🤢
You read my mind
@@VonnieSF Come on now it's not all that bad.
Def no mayo on a sub. They’d laugh you out of jersey, new york, and philly. He forgot the oregeno

I just love the sandwich so much I like baldino sub sandwiches they got the best sub ever
The only thing missing here is a healthy dose of some quality mayo!!
I agree. Mayo gives the sub an extra richness to it which makes it super delicious.
you're absolutely right
Your so Right
NOOOOOO!!!! 😂 I'm a snob that Way....maybe I should try it that way .....🤔
Yasssss

Banana and cherry peppers add so much flavor!! Thanks!
That Italian sub looks delicious. You used the standard meats that the Italians use and we also use mortadella in our Italian sandwiches here.
I love mortadella.
Love mortadella on it but the best part of making your own sandwich is to customize it to your own tastes. There is no right or wrong
@@richardsilvestri6874 I even chucked some small chorizo on there, just for kicks.

Wouldn't it make more sense to salt the tomatoes for more flavor too?
