Despite it being amazing CGI, some of the best I've ever seen, I still know it's CGI. Faces are so difficult because our brains are just that smart at recognizing them. I think, it's the eye distance that seems to be slightly uncanny, and the eye tracking. If you freeze at 0:03 at the second when he moves his eye to our left, they track almost too precisely and look like off. The same happens at 0:08 when he turns, the eye to our right looks like it's really off track, because it's moving equally to the other one, rather than moving in a cone-line narrowing of focus.

    • @branescan

It's a good think to learn something new. As a 3ds max veteran I'd start with blender if I was you tho. Anyways in next 5 years AI will do most of the job for you, so you can just learn the basics.

I have yet to see this movie. It's quite a boss move to show the model at all angles, very close, with any kind of hyper realistic movement. I know it's 3D, but I am sure, someone who doesn't know at all wouldn't grasp it.
But as mentioned, gotta see the movie and have a look, if there are poor rendering moments, that are not shown in any promotional material. I means, it's a tough game to hold up perfection for an entire movie constantly.

I watched it last year. Yes they really nailed the face. They nailed it so great that I though that was a real actor before I learned it was cg :D But I remember in some action scenes there were some unrealistic things its not perfection on entire movie but overall it was good

Yeah it's damn good work- except for the lips in many instances when speech was involved.

Our brain is just amazing at recognizing faces. And if something is wrong with them. It's a matter of survival. So 3d faces will never look real to us. Only deepfakes can trick our brains.

aww man just rendering a 3d animation already cost alot of energy and time how come for rendering a photorealistic will smith for the whole movie length?

Its extremely good, it just annoys me that i can still see it isnt real. Humans look at other human faces so damn much that its near impossible to create a human face in VFX that is 100% believable.

TBH watching the movie on TV, I didn't realize it's a CGI. I thought they did only make up.
