Glad you think it's a good one! I worry sometimes about the quality of my pen so I'm glad you think my surface-skimming, pond scum-sucking attempt at capturing any sort of depth whatsoever was successful bahahaha
crazy how these two videos on whitepine are arguably some of the only whitepine-related content that isnt directly made by ivory that rivals the quality of whitepine. absolutely amazing work here with this stuff, i wish you got so much more recognition
Oh no, I wouldn't go that far. "Rivals" is a very strong word indeed bahaha. Also, like I said in this video, ShadowLord782's Solving Whitepine is an even better analysis than this. It's linked in the video cards and the description, too. If you liked this video, I highly recommend giving his stuff a shot.
I really don’t think that’s true hahahaha but I appreciate the kind words more than you can possibly know! That’s a very nice thing to say. Thank you for the compliments- I’m happy at least someone enjoyed this shamelessly self-indulgent little two-parter.
Love how you've also figured out the whole the piano is really important, in fact it's a metaphor for the death/absence for the lady of the house and how ivory, in playing it has uncovered something, I wouldn't be surprised if the murder weapon will be found within the piano. I want to elaborate. A kind of silence has fallen on whitepine, the lady of the house is dead and gone. Her absence has left a kind of rot that will if not removed, destroy everything, everyone. Ivory comes alone, she's kind in a reserved kinda way she's happy to stay in her place if only allowed a small freedom, the freedom of art hidden away but art none the less. And somehow the desire for art opens some wound that's why the story is leaning to Ivory taking the blame, her suffering for the sins of another and obviously part of this is a trans narrative and how the small things you give yourself often lead the egg cracking, eventually the piano which has been hidden away because it's mere presence causes pain (really that's the only reason for it to be in the basement) will be metaphorical catalyst again for more violence
The murderer potentially stashing the weapon in the piano is a pretty good shout! Glad you appreciated the symbolic significance of that, too- something very powerful about the piano, the literal embodiment of Mrs. Hemlocke's presence, sealed away and shut in the dark down in the basement, out of sight and out of mind, no longer under the light of day streaming in through the sunroof. Ivory's got a lot to say about grief and repression, and I thought that was a particularly salient bit of implicature,
39:40 "Taught her the name of every kind of plant and tree" This would explain why her OST songs are all trees: like mountain ash, rumcherry, pin oak..
That's a good connection! The tree motif definitely runs very deep in Ivory's work, which puts a lot of weight on the symbolic symbolism of Usherwood in Whitepine.
@@FrostbyteFreeman Detective sir did you know ebony is also a wood. Here is what wikipedia has to say: Ebony is finely textured and has a mirror finish when polished, making it valuable as an ornamental wood. It is often cited as one of the most expensive woods in the world.
@@Swaritz13 this whole line make me crazy. The symbolism in plants!?! Give me two! Ohh, I love what everyone created here. If I only can speak and describe how I feel when see people create
I love these two videos on whitepine, it's helped me think so much more deeply about the themes of the story, and showed me all of the para textual elements which have helped me shape my own views on the themes.
long comment incoming: how dare you hit me with clair de lune in that basement right before we hit the "backstage" of the hidden videos. i'm going to explode. this is _such_ a fun way of combining your own lore(?) and storytelling hallmarks/idiosyncrasies with fascinating intertextual analysis and i am 110% here for it. great cinematography as always, well-timed, excellent parallels to other works. the whole shebang! i may have laughed, yes. more at my own reflection against the dark computer screen than anything else. in other words, incredible job overall. in return, conversationally, here's something from a bit of a different side of the analysis folks. and saying that is weird for me. i end up being the metatext analysis guy (internally. or on other sites. i do not have videos) a lot of the time, and yet with whitepine -- a series practically built for it, if you know of ivory from before whitepine itself -- i find that everyone's got that covered for me and the things that stand out to me are basic textual building blocks. stuff left uncovered and unaddressed because there's a lot more interesting stuff to gnaw on. but maybe i want to eat a raw apple on occasion, maybe i stepped on the one lego left lying out, so. tiny nagging doubt time. another stated assumption i'm not sure i can get behind. we don't have proof that the stab wounds were what actually killed Mysty. the Wire appears to be a notoriously unreliable old rag prone to fallacy and sensationalism, and even _it_ doesn't actually state that the stab wounds were the cause of death. this is the _only_ mention of the nature of Mysticat's wounds -- nothing from the other servants, nothing from the police, nothing from the Hemlockes. given the relatively rudimentary nature of forensic science at the time, i don't think it'd be that much of a stretch to say Mysticat _might_ have been killed in another manner and then mutilated post-demise (and possibly thrown down the stairs) to make it look like a crime of passion and/or send a message. it _really_ doesn't change much. but it's there. unaddressed. much like the lamppost i first saw about three years ago. (assuming i do understand what you're saying. if i don't, then maybe i'm just getting my dates wrong.)
Thank you! Glad to hear you appreciated my incredibly esoteric shenanigans here- I pride myself on incredibly heavy-handed intertextuality, so it's nice to hear you say that was something you appreciated specifically haha. As for your theory- I don't think that's likely. Yes, the Wire is chock full of tawdry gossip, but when it comes to gossip like this, getting the details and all the details to satisfy the prurient fascination of Emberton's population is of paramount importance, so I don't think there's any motivation to suspect that the wounds they reported weren't the cause of the fatality. First, Mysty's body just *looks* like it's been stabbed given the blood splatter on her maid uniform and the dais, in the same way that it *looks* like her arm has been torn off- because it has. Additionally, given what we know about the Hemlocke family's schedules, Pyro takes breakfast in his room before joining the rest of the family in the study. If Mysty were killed during the night or before the time the body was found somewhere else, then dragged down the stairs and deposited during the foyer, her disappearance would surely have been noticed by Pyro since she always brings him breakfast. Pyro, in turn, would have notified the other servants to look for her, making it less likely that the killer could have gotten away with depositing the body. On the other hand, if Mysty is called out of the kitchen during the time when all the servants are busiest, her disappearance is less likely to be noticed. To me, at least, the narrative lines up much more cleanly for the killing to have actually happened in the foyer during the early morning time period I specified while everyone else is busy, but as more details are unveiled that could be subject to change. I dunno, I'm dancing in the dark here.
@@FrostbyteFreeman that's definitely a fair rebuttal! i do think, with the crime and motives as laid out, it might not make a lot of sense for the murder to have taken place outside of that range you outlined -- though admittedly i'm still not 100% sold on the idea that pyro is being poisoned, so our understandings of motive and means probably differ pretty drastically on that basis alone. in other words, the mode of death being hastily disguised doesn't make much sense if it's a manorwide conspiracy, and the manorwide conspiracy doesn't make much sense as a motive if the stab wounds were created shortly postmortem as a cover-up. we definitely don't have enough details to determine which presupposition -- if either -- is correct, and there's an outside chance that we may not even know and this may be more of a show about grief than it is about a murder mystery in the first place. but who knows? it's fun to speculate and compare notes either way! (and an unrelated side note: if nothing else, i am a comp lit major so i am more or less guaranteed to go absolutely hog wild over intertextual comparisons, especially to this level of esoteric shenanigansery. it's probably a prerequisite for the degree tbh)
Thank you! That's very kind of you to say haha, and I appreciate the very generous compliment, but for the life of me I can't figure out why you'd think this way since these videos literally wouldn't exist without Whitepine in the first place. Probably the last one for a while, I've thoroughly exhausted all I have to say at this point and I'll need to see more to say more.
Yep, I was right. Another uninterupted via the means of checking the timestamps or fidgiting in my seat flawless video analysis. Somehow, this just holds my attention span in an iron grip. Not to mention that the reference to "Auteur Theory" sent me all the way back to my highschool English class ahaha. I also really apreciate you linking what music you use. I've been looking for songs with this kind of feel for a while now and here you are, supplying me with plenty. Thank you for an amazing video! (my speaking patterns have now irreperably changed for the rest of the day to detective movie slang) :D
LOL! Hopefully those idiosyncrasies don't stick, that would be very inconvenient- and I would know! Thanks for the kind words, glad you found this sequel to be similarly engaging.
Holy shit. I intended to watch this video sort of in the background while I slaved away on a video essay assignment but it stole my attention away so quickly. Your narration work and editing is so brilliantly alluring and capturing. And while this comment feels rather aimless (I apologise for this), the line "Sooner or later, you have to accept this has just been me, trying to start a conversation." hit me like a freight truck. It's rather selfish of me, but the following minutes caused me to tear up just a bit. It struck a cord I didn't know was still in me, your writing and voice over gave me just a little bit of hope that I was so ready to throw away. This is the first video of yours that I have ever watched, but I don't think it will be my last. Your analysis of whitepine within the confines of itself and outside of it's media limits is geniunely so inspiring to see as someone who enjoys media analysis. I'm starting to lose my own points, but thank you for creating something so incredible. And thank you for being comfortable enough to put a part of yourself in your creations. I apologise again if it got a little too personal, I just found the timing of me finishing this video and finishing my assignment being the same so amusing and at the same time, hopeful. Best of luck on your future creations sir, I look forward to seeing it !
I really appreciated getting to read this comment and see your perspective on my work! Thank you for the kind words haha, your compliments mean more to me than you can possibly know. This is my second video on the subject of Whitepine- technically my third, since my video on scripted Minecraft content exists solely to motivate the question of "what makes Whitepine special?" which I attempted to answer over the course of my following analyses, but I digress. Still, I'm amazed and honored that despite picking this series up at its conclusion for the immediate future, you had such an earnest emotional reaction to my work. Glad you sincerely enjoyed it. Hopefully I didn't distract you from your assignment too much!
Dear Frostbyte Freeman, Although I may never comment, I simply must express that your work, ironically, and Ivory's work, is a genuinely incredible medium to show your thoughts, and Ivory of her thoughts, and hence, I must simply say that - I believe one can always crawl out of the void of a lack of ground, of solidified emotion and thought, and I think - I think, and I hope - I understand your thought process, all of it. I truly, truly do. And you're not the only one that rambles endlessly, for I cannot express enough the exact same. I cannot even cram all of my thoughts into this comment without rambling by myself, too, but I will only say this for now, Freeman - I will be watching your career with great interest. =D ~ Lee "Riga" Équinoxe
Thank you so much for the kind words! I’m honored that you felt compelled to comment on this video to share your appreciation, even if it’s something you seldom do. That sort of gesture really does mean a lot to me, more than you can possibly know.
I love the way you went out all the way out of the actual series, it hadn’t occurred to me to do this myself. Something about the way you talk just keeps me attracted to the video, and before I knew it - it was already over.
I must say Frostbyte, you truly have a lot of talent. Not only are you able to anyalsye White Pine from such a sophistcaed writer's point of view. But you can also weave your own stories and poems while discussing someone elses work without making it seem awkward or confusing, and at the same time, I can determine the difference between when you are discussing White Pine and telling your stories. I hope you recognise you're talent Frost, it truly is a gift and must've taken a lot of skill and effort. Once again you're poems almost made me cry.
That's very sweet of you to say! I'm happy you enjoyed both the Whitepine videos, and that my work spoke to you on such an earnest emotional level. It's an honor.
No, thank you for saying thank you- it's a very nice thing to say! I'm really happy you you enjoyed the first video so much to elicit this kind of excitement, so hopefully this one was worth the wait.
My first interaction with White Pine was yesterday. Oh how far I have fallen since that time. Deep into the rabbit hole, and I can’t say I regret it, cause I don’t. I would never had suspected that one of the most profound series in my life would be a minecraft series. Funny how life does that to you huh? I’m rambling. Time to get to the point. All I wish to say is, thank you for your work here, and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
Glad you enjoyed both these gargantuan hour-long videos! Happy to hear I was able to contribute to your introduction to this fandom in some small form or fashion.
I was supposed to be drawing but then i stumbled upon this video essay and honestly this entire video is a masterpiece, i love how you mixed your lore in to analyse Whitepine at the same time.
Thank you so much for the compliments… that’s very kind of you to say! I’m happy to hear you enjoyed this video so earnestly- hopefully it didn’t distract you too much from all the drawing you needed to do!
Someone making an explanation video for this explanation video is completely bonkers haha. Thank you so much, glad you still somehow enjoyed this video even if you didn't totally get all of it!
@FrostbyteFreeman Might I ask what the Piano, void and church stuff is about? Or just a hint to keep in mind so I can re-watch it myself and try to understand it myself?
All three of those are symbols Ivory uses in her own work, but my personal usage of them differs from hers. By interpreting the same ideas in a different way and viewing them through the novel lens of my silly little framing device, I hoped to call attention to their function within the parameters of Whitepine and its surrounding paratext through juxtaposition.
No, thank you for saying thank you, it's a very nice thing to say! Honored you found this silly little video so thoroughly enrapturing to the point where you watched straight through to the end.
Dude I really like this video, I wish my brain was wrinkly enough to understand the big words (maybe I'm also confused because I didn't watch your first Whitepine analysis) Also, your analysis of the hidden videos (which I didn't know about until this video) reminds a lot of the language used in Ivory's video where she comes out as trans and drops the mythrodak persona and name. Talking about being stuck in a different person, and even once she isn't, she's still not herself. I haven't watched to the end yet (58 minutes into the video as of writing this) but holy hell you've done such a good job showing me how complex Whitepine truly is. My personal opinion is that the story of ivoryfrill and whitepine aren't really that connected, but one lead to the other (and that may be the whole point of this video but I'm not entirely sure) Overall great video!! I kinda hope you don't see this until I've added in my thoughts after fully finishing the video lol Edit: just finished it and... wow. This is just amazing. I do have one question tho, you okay? I genuinely can't tell if this is character lore or an incredibly poetic and elaborate way of venting. Also, i can assure you, i am NOT MOCKING YOU!!! THIS IS BEAUTIFUL, YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL, LOVE YOURSELF NOW. Jokes aside, i really liked this video and i hope you have an amazing day :D
Thank you for the kind words- I sincerely do appreciate them! I'm honored to hear you had such an earnest emotional connection to this video, even if you started somewhere in the middle. Glad I could help to broaden your horizons and elucidate you to just how vast and complex the paradox of Whitepine truly is.
I wouldn’t go nearly so far, but thank you! I’m glad this video resonated with you on such an earnest emotional level, it makes me happy to hear you enjoyed it :)
Id say that since mysty had limbs severed, the weapon could have been some kind of axe, which I think might've done a better job at severing her limbs than a sword, it would have all the weight behind the axe head instead of all through the length of the blade, like a sword or knife
Could have sworn I replied to this- oh well, my bad. Mysty was stabbed too, as the autopsy report in the Wire specifies, hence why I tried to find a bladed weapon that could serve both a stabbing and chopping function since it’s kind of hard to be stabbed with an axe (and I figured that the killer would only have one weapon on their person to make it easier to discard). You do have a good point, though… thanks for the comment!
@@FrostbyteFreeman Yeah this is my bad entirely, I rewatched chapter 5, you mentioned there being stab wounds around 8:34, so I think it was just that I either forgot you said that or I just didn't realize in the first place. Thanks for the clarification though, and I think the video was great!
Thank you. Happy you enjoyed the conclusion of this little two-part mini arc for the framing device used in my Whitepine analysis, haha. I'm honored that you had such an earnest emotional reaction to my work.
Thank you! I'm happy you appreciate my generally unhinged ramblings and somehow managed to discern something resembling a coherent theory from them, haha. Your support means a lot to me!
I like this video very much. I think I might've said that in your previous Whitepine video, but I love your writing style and you narrate it. It was also very nice to see more of that mysterious void. When I got bored with drawing, I started taking interest in writing. I've never been good at it though. I struggle with putting my thoughts into words well and with interpretating more abstract concepts. I was never good at expressing my emotions either. Sometimes it feels like I have only two modes: crybaby and cold (not a reference to you being cold the whole video haha), while everyone else has a healthy middle. I don't know why, but your videos inspire me to give writing an another chance. My dream is making music with thoughtful and deep lyrics. Not really to become famous and live off it, but to reach at least a few people's hearts with my art. Kinda like you, but in a different form. Dumping all of that in a RUclipsrs comment section instead of a diary is a little silly, but at least that's free engagement for you. I really should get a diary though lol Sorry for all the rambling, just felt like saying something :p
-or not. If I was really sorry, I wouldn't have posted my comment. Also i really did watch the video a day later like my previous comment said. Only leaving a comment took so long. Oops.
There's no need to apologize- I appreciated getting to hear your thoughts. I'm honored my work inspired you in some small form or fashion to pursue your passions once again. Even just for yourself, I hope it's worth it, for your own peace of mind if nothing else. I wish you the best of luck in your future creative endeavors.
No sweat whatsoever! Thank you so much for the comment, I'm happy you enjoyed what little you had a chance to watch so far! Feel free to take this video at your own pace, I know it's a lot.
I have a bit of a perspective on "isn't it silly analysing a silly minecraft show", coming from an english philology student. As of late, we have started going over Shakespeare's work. Shakespeare is considered one of the greatest writers we've known. And that's no really a lie - his use of language is something to behold, he single-handedly introduced a dictionary's worth of words it feels like. But, in a way, his use of language is where that greatness ends. None of his plays, except "Tempest" iirc, are "original" - just competently put together mish-mashes of other works. There are at least two "Hamlet"s before his - although one text has been lost, so we cannot be sure if he lifted anything other than the name. But that isn't my point. My point is - Shakespeare's plays are FULL of low humour - sex innuendos, defecation jokes, one of his main characters was called "Botton" for crying out loud! Then there's he's inspiration from Seneca plays that can be seen in Hamlet. It's full of playing on literal shock value - something we tend to admonish nowadays and usually for good reason. What I mean to show here is that, by all means, Shakespeare's work can be considered "silly" or "low class", yet he still is one of the greatest writers we know of. Because there are many aspects to what makes art great. Just because Ivory uses minecraft to create her story doesn't take from its artistry. Whitepine can be art, can be great, can be deep and admonishing anyone for looking deeper than the surface just because it uses a game as a tool is a deeply flawed logic. If we looked that way at Shakespeare, he wouldn't be thrown at everyone ever during literary studies. Just because one aspect of work can be considered "low" by some... Doesn't take away from the rest. anyway i think i may have gone a lil overboard lol
My friend, I am a pragmatist. I believe no utterance can ever truly be divorced from the context in which it occurs. To that end, it might interest you to know that I have spent three whole hours of non-stop yapping over three whole videos in defense of Whitepine as art- one hour dedicated to the discipline of Minecraft storytelling in general to motivate the question “what makes Whitepine art?”, and two more hours on top of that dedicated solely to Whitepine itself. This is the third and final of those three hours. You have begun at the end, without properly understanding the form of life in which I am engaged. Bearing that in mind, surely you would at least concede that this “silly Minecraft story” comment was most probably a facetious and self-deprecating remark on behalf of this author to poke fun at the sheer volume of effort and life-hours he has expended, no? I did really appreciate getting to hear your perspective, though! Very well reasoned, not overboard at all (I would know a thing or two about jumping the shark). I thought the phallic overtones of Shakespeare’s work were much more widely appreciated- I mean, Much Ado About Nothing? Come on!
@@FrostbyteFreeman I watched all your videos on Whitepine. That is how I found it. I just thought it would be a fun point to argue because people geniunely think like that. The argument wasn't specifically directed at you, more so at the logic that is often used. Should've probably been more clear ^^"
Its isane how your analysis are as good as withepine itself, even if you do make mistakes because of saturation o because the author is presenting the information bit by bit, on this video you have proven that the mystery in the story is not the only thing worth talking about, but also is the whole process that led to this story even existing.
Hello, I would like to point out the fact the there are three out of one hundred and thirty five comments(at the time of commenting this) you have not responded to, one of them being your own. This shows how engaged you are with your audience, and I find that very commendable.
@@jogosengracados1923 I missed a couple? It’s easier to reply to everything on less popular passion project videos like these, but I try to be responsive even on my slightly more popular stuff (though that gets a bit overwhelming due to the sheer number of comments I’m flooded with sometimes haha). Glad you appreciated my attempt to foster engagement, though!
I really appreciate how throughout this entire thing you didn't dig into Ivory as a person in this analysis. I do believe her identity shines through the work that she made (i.e. the discomfort with showering around others) but I really appreciate that your analysis doesn't make it a big deal: not all works made by transgender women have to be about being transgender women. I do believe it may have a bit to do with the church as many trans people have religious trauma, but that's related to her overall content as the author and not Whitepine specifically
Thank you! I'm honored that you think I handled the subject matter tactfully- it's definitely something I agonized over in the writing process for both of my videos on Whitepine, especially this one. Hopefully, you thought my analysis was still somewhat salient in spite of it all!
@@cupcakegaming882 Must the show go on? Where has the feeling gone? Will I remember the song? Thank you, Emily. Glad you enjoyed both of these videos for what they’re worth.
@@JJaylenPlays I can answer that question fairly easily, actually. This is the second of two hour-long videos solely dedicated to solving the mystery of an incredibly niche Minecraft period drama. Of course it’s not going to be very popular.
@@St4rvingg If you check the theory doc I’ve linked in the description, there’s a link to the playlist with all the hidden videos on there. I should really just link directly to that in the description, too- will update that shortly.
Your videos is inspiring me in a way that i want to lern and become beter then you in analytic and theory(i am amuture, have never analyse a whole thing, only surface and some subplotes and themes of popular thingsthat everyone alreadyexplore, never was deep enough to say about whole thing with strong "i get it and can explain what". But i watch how you doing it, and even if you make mistakes you keep going and that make me feel good. I also can keep going) Your videos full of vibe, aesthetic and swag and i impress by it. Hope you be good, man, you are epic
Thank you so much for the kind words! I’m honored that you think this video is full of swag… that genuinely means a lot to me, more than you can possibly know. Don’t beat yourself up, though! Analyzing art isn’t something you can really be “bad” at, just inexperienced… and the only way to gain experience is by actually doing it. You might feel like your analysis is inadequate, but that’s how you learn. I’m happy I could inspire you, and I wish you the best in your future creative ventures. :)
Well yes, kind of. I had to motivate the decision to return to symbolic analysis after spending the first hour and thirty minutes of this series on the literal text of Whitepine in isolation.
" I am scared " , " Will I be seen" , " is there anything to see?" Maybe the journey in all of it is nothing and the everything amounts to nothing. The answer. The art. There is no control. I am being led. By the art and process itself. And I feel trapped.
Identity and ivory's coming out probably play a huge part in all of it, especially the sin and fear of being weak and confined by the (new) gender identity and the religious guilt, as much as being trapped and wanting to be the self with the incoming fear and negativity. Suicide and the murder of self come to mind.
Oh, god, you just reminded me I have *another* almost hour-long video I need to get done in time for the holiday season lol. Glad you consider my incredibly sporadic schedule to be a gift haha!
In my defense, I didn't think there would be *two* mentally unbalanced, defective detectives living inside the walls of Whitepine manor while sinisterly stalking its inhabitants- I mean, what would be the odds of that? I did it first, by the way.
Look, Ivory posted Episode 3 on Thursday, October 31st, and the opportunity was just too good to pass up. I was gonna do this whole bit where I sprinted to get this video out in time for Friday, November 6th to line everything up perfectly with the timeline of events in the movie because at that time I thought this was just going to be a short, sub-fifteen minute little coda appended to the end of my last Whitepine video as a follow-up. But the scope just kept expanding the longer I worked on it since I wanted to make sure I was addressing every possible angle, and that's how this video mutated into the absolute monstrosity you behold before your very eyes. I am very sorry.
Hey, idk if this changes anything, but I'm pretty cat's arm wasn't torn off, but instead the emote used to have her lie dead on the ground just made her arm act weird and look detached, I'm positive of this but at the same time it could be intentional and her arm.is actually sliced off but I don't think so
@@theinkingskeletonsmess Two problems with this. Firstly, the Emberton Wire literally says one of Mysty’s limbs was cut off, and the only limb we see severed is her arm. I don’t think the paper has any reason or incentive to lie in this particular instance, since they want to get the gory details right to sell copies. Second, if this was just a posing artifact, why would Ivory have designed Mysty’s skin so that there’s blood around the socket of the arm that was cut off? This, in fact, changes nothing.
At this point, I'm afraid of seeing any youtube video over 30 minutes that analize some media cause I know the author is gonna convert the video into a personal cinematic monolgue
Look, dude, this is the second installment of a two-part series of videos on a Minecraft period drama. If you know what you think you’re in for, you don’t have to walk through the door. You can just turn around and walk away. Tosca isn’t for everybody, and if this sort of esoteric meta-analysis isn’t your bag, I completely understand. That doesn’t mean this snarky little comment passes muster as a substantive critique of the form, though.
Oh no. No you don’t. You’re not bringing that into my comments section. I’m not letting the shared delusion breach containment again. Back, back I say! Don’t make me get the squirt bottle!
It's incredible that we're on Hour Two of this project and people are still willfully misinterpreting my argumentation and analysis when it's literally all right there. I said in Part One that I wasn't going to be discussing the surrounding paratext of Whitepine since it wasn't useful in actually analyzing the murder (which was specifically the focus of the first video), not that it wasn't symbolically significant. I then returned to those symbols for further analysis within the broader context of Ivory's career in Part Two, as was the plan. Saying that my interpretation "neuters" the timeline is just woefully reductive.
@@aguywhodoesstuff1116 Sorry! I come off a bit harsh and combative than I mean to sometimes, but that's only my fault- I just put a lot of work into making both these videos work together as a cohesive whole, so I suppose I'm unfairly defensive. I sincerely apologize, but you have to understand that throwing hands with viewers in the comments section is my favorite pastime. Like I said last time, I encourage you to be critical. Responding to this stuff is fun for me, and whether I'm ultimately right or wrong, my goal with this analysis is to further the dialogue.
I mean if you haven't seen it that's not on me! It's one of the all-time great achievements in the cinematic medium! I wanted to offer fair disclosure! My hope is that at least one person sees that warning, completely stops watching this video, and forgets about it entirely in favor of watching some Kubrick.
If the blackhole, in it's endless density offers nothing to see, then who's to say that it'll remain dark forever? Anyways THE WHAABBIT HOLE GOES DEEPER LESGO
There’s a playlist with all of the unlisted videos in the lore doc, which is linked in the description. I keep meaning to add that there, too, I just forget.
@ThatTransNerd Ivory’s posting the official download after the series has run its course. I haven’t shared mine because I’m frankly embarrassed by how shabby it is, and because I know I made a couple big mistakes (bits of the foundation that were off by a block or two that added up and compounded exponentially in severity in the aggregate). Additionally, I don't know if it'd even be my place to do so- after all, Ivory's sitting on her world download for a reason, and I wouldn't feel right posting my shameless imitation since it isn't really "mine" to share. Hopefully that makes sense.
@@FrostbyteFreeman thanks that does make so much sense, I have started to make my own although it is very innacurate and is only meant to replicate the vibe of white pine and not be the whitepine manor. also thanks so much for the amazing video essays that i have listened to while cooking dinner over and over again so myself can try use your information to find my own theories. also i didnt know about the numbered hidden videos so that helps a lot
Of course! If you’re interested in learning more about Whitepine, I suggest reading the theory doc for better explanations than mine, or joining Ivory’s Discord server- the lore chat is full of all the latest theorization, and people are constantly chatting there. I know there’s a group of people working on a much more accurate and meticulously crafted replica of the manor than mine (it’s called Whitecone), so if you were looking to aid in rebuilds, that might pique your interest. Something to think about, I suppose! As always, I appreciate the kind words.
Really good video! I love the series, but as I’m Christian, I also feel bad but also good for Ivory. They have found happiness, but in turn have removed their old self. (I’m not trying to offend anyone or spread hate) It just creates an internal conflict for me when watching white pine.

@FrostbyteFreeman hey, don't talk about yourself like that 😭 You're work is good ❤
crazy how these two videos on whitepine are arguably some of the only whitepine-related content that isnt directly made by ivory that rivals the quality of whitepine. absolutely amazing work here with this stuff, i wish you got so much more recognition

Ivory's got a lot to say about grief and repression, and I thought that was a particularly salient bit of implicature,
Appreciate the shoutout man, hope everybody's ready for episode 2
Of course! Here's to hoping.
39:40 "Taught her the name of every kind of plant and tree"
This would explain why her OST songs are all trees: like mountain ash, rumcherry, pin oak..

I love these two videos on whitepine, it's helped me think so much more deeply about the themes of the story, and showed me all of the para textual elements which have helped me shape my own views on the themes.
Thank you! That's very kind of you to say, I'm happy to hear that my analysis resonated so deeply with you!
long comment incoming: how dare you hit me with clair de lune in that basement right before we hit the "backstage" of the hidden videos. i'm going to explode. this is _such_ a fun way of combining your own lore(?) and storytelling hallmarks/idiosyncrasies with fascinating intertextual analysis and i am 110% here for it. great cinematography as always, well-timed, excellent parallels to other works. the whole shebang! i may have laughed, yes. more at my own reflection against the dark computer screen than anything else. in other words, incredible job overall.
in return, conversationally, here's something from a bit of a different side of the analysis folks. and saying that is weird for me. i end up being the metatext analysis guy (internally. or on other sites. i do not have videos) a lot of the time, and yet with whitepine -- a series practically built for it, if you know of ivory from before whitepine itself -- i find that everyone's got that covered for me and the things that stand out to me are basic textual building blocks. stuff left uncovered and unaddressed because there's a lot more interesting stuff to gnaw on. but maybe i want to eat a raw apple on occasion, maybe i stepped on the one lego left lying out, so. tiny nagging doubt time. another stated assumption i'm not sure i can get behind.
we don't have proof that the stab wounds were what actually killed Mysty. the Wire appears to be a notoriously unreliable old rag prone to fallacy and sensationalism, and even _it_ doesn't actually state that the stab wounds were the cause of death. this is the _only_ mention of the nature of Mysticat's wounds -- nothing from the other servants, nothing from the police, nothing from the Hemlockes. given the relatively rudimentary nature of forensic science at the time, i don't think it'd be that much of a stretch to say Mysticat _might_ have been killed in another manner and then mutilated post-demise (and possibly thrown down the stairs) to make it look like a crime of passion and/or send a message.
it _really_ doesn't change much. but it's there. unaddressed. much like the lamppost i first saw about three years ago.
(and an unrelated side note: if nothing else, i am a comp lit major so i am more or less guaranteed to go absolutely hog wild over intertextual comparisons, especially to this level of esoteric shenanigansery. it's probably a prerequisite for the degree tbh)
imagine if Ivory actually takes your character canon to the whitepine series lol
Well no because the scripts for the series are already locked, and even if that were possible I definitely would not want that to happen at all haha

Holy shit. I intended to watch this video sort of in the background while I slaved away on a video essay assignment but it stole my attention away so quickly. Hopefully I didn't distract you from your assignment too much!
Dear Frostbyte Freeman,
Although I may never comment, I simply must express that your work, ironically, and Ivory's work, is a genuinely incredible medium to show your thoughts, and Ivory of her thoughts, and hence, I must simply say that - I believe one can always crawl out of the void of a lack of ground, of solidified emotion and thought, and I think - I think, and I hope - I understand your thought process, all of it. I truly, truly do. And you're not the only one that rambles endlessly, for I cannot express enough the exact same.
I cannot even cram all of my thoughts into this comment without rambling by myself, too, but I will only say this for now, Freeman - I will be watching your career with great interest. =D

Another hour long video I couldn't stop watching. Thank you goat

Dude I really like this video, I wish my brain was wrinkly enough to understand the big words (maybe I'm also confused because I didn't watch your first Whitepine analysis)
Also, your analysis of the hidden videos (which I didn't know about until this video) reminds a lot of the language used in Ivory's video where she comes out as trans and drops the mythrodak persona and name.
Talking about being stuck in a different person, and even once she isn't, she's still not herself.
I haven't watched to the end yet (58 minutes into the video as of writing this) but holy hell you've done such a good job showing me how complex Whitepine truly is. My personal opinion is that the story of ivoryfrill and whitepine aren't really that connected, but one lead to the other (and that may be the whole point of this video but I'm not entirely sure)
Overall great video!! I kinda hope you don't see this until I've added in my thoughts after fully finishing the video lol

This is the best video ever I'd say

Thank you for the kind words! Glad you came around to my point of view- I dunno about this video being "as good as Whitepine itself" though haha

28:01 you're telling me that that entire part was just the intro???
just finished it, wtf why is this actual cinema
Well yes, kind of. I had to motivate the decision to return to symbolic analysis after spending the first hour and thirty minutes of this series on the literal text of Whitepine in isolation.
It is the fear about " Who will I be if I let loose?"
Suicide and the murder of self come to mind.
the definition of self and it's boundaries
Im excited to finish this.
Glad to hear it! Go at your own pace, and only watch what you can when you can- I know it's a long one.
I wonder how frost is going to take his detective plot if Whitepine takes a supernatural turn...
Oh no. We discussed that last time. Not gonna happen, and if it does, I will simply pretend I do not see it.
This dropped while i was about to sleep, im in pain cuz I can't watch this now
SAME
I’m laying in bed rn, about to put my phone away and then I see this 💀
It will be there later! This is an hour long! Not everyone has time for that! Watch it whenever you can, if you feel so inclined.
I encourage you to go to sleep! Sleep is important!
Frostgoat Peakman
You know what that second portmanteau is actually pretty good! Honored you think I'm worthy of such distinction.
36:10
Oh nice an ultraman reference
More Frostbyte Freeman Uploads! Has Christmas come early?
Oh, god, you just reminded me I have *another* almost hour-long video I need to get done in time for the holiday season lol. Glad you consider my incredibly sporadic schedule to be a gift haha!
17:54 umm… i may have something to tell you about whitepine 4…
In my defense, I didn't think there would be *two* mentally unbalanced, defective detectives living inside the walls of Whitepine manor while sinisterly stalking its inhabitants- I mean, what would be the odds of that? I did it first, by the way.
The batman monologue made me CACKLE
I am very sorry.
another one hour whitepine analysis? don’t mind if i do
I definitely don’t! Mind, that is. Glad to hear at least someone was excited for the sequel.
i love these
Thank you so much! Glad to hear you've enjoyed both these videos, it means a lot to me :)
you never miss
Actually Episode 4 just confirmed that I missed very badly! But thank you for the kind words!
Nice vide like how you maid itmand you realy put in the work tnx for dis
Thank you! Glad the effort showed.
1:00 Columbo?????
Yeah dude that's kinda the whole thing I've been doing here over the past two hours of video I've put out! Glad you picked up on it bahaha
frostbyte freeman
Oh no. No you don’t. You’re not bringing that into my comments section. I’m not letting the shared delusion breach containment again. Back, back I say! Don’t make me get the squirt bottle!
@ frostbyte freeman!
more like deciding how goated ivory is
So? She *is* pretty goated, to be fair.
>>neuters the timeline by getting rid of all links to other works by ivory
>>has loose ends
>>huh I guess those were important
It's incredible that we're on Hour Two of this project and people are still willfully misinterpreting my argumentation and analysis when it's literally all right there. I said in Part One that I wasn't going to be discussing the surrounding paratext of Whitepine since it wasn't useful in actually analyzing the murder (which was specifically the focus of the first video), not that it wasn't symbolically significant. I then returned to those symbols for further analysis within the broader context of Ivory's career in Part Two, as was the plan. Saying that my interpretation "neuters" the timeline is just woefully reductive.
@@FrostbyteFreeman OK OUCH. As this wasn't meant to be deep or anything, I did, yes, willingly ignore things.
@@FrostbyteFreeman Honestly im fangirling a bit about how I got chastised by frostbyte freeman himself
How did you get the whitepine map? Did you build it yourself, cause if you did, it’s hella impressive
I did indeed build it myself. Ivory isn’t releasing the official world download until the conclusion of the series.
is that a whitepine reference
No, it isn’t. This video isn’t even about Whitepine.
just starting the video, what do you MEAN spoilers for 2001: a space odyssey
I mean if you haven't seen it that's not on me! It's one of the all-time great achievements in the cinematic medium! I wanted to offer fair disclosure! My hope is that at least one person sees that warning, completely stops watching this video, and forgets about it entirely in favor of watching some Kubrick.
If the blackhole, in it's endless density offers nothing to see, then who's to say that it'll remain dark forever?
Anyways THE WHAABBIT HOLE GOES DEEPER LESGO
I promised I could go further.
More white pine!
This is probably all the Pinecraft stuff I'm gonna do for the foreseeable future! Glad you've enjoyed the series though :)
Where are these secret videos that everyone talks about??
There’s a playlist with all of the unlisted videos in the lore doc, which is linked in the description. I keep meaning to add that there, too, I just forget.
We all know what zam sounds like 😂 (no offense zam)
In all fairness, he has a very distinctive voice.
I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR A WORLD DOWNLOAD, PLEASE CAN I HAVE IT *crying emojis*
As always, I appreciate the kind words.
now im sure you deserve a follow.
Thank you! Glad to hear you enjoyed this silly little video haha
You're insane!
Have been for a while, thanks for noticing!
interesting 🤔
Glad you think so?
56:23 it is not a sily minecraft show for me.whitepine is personalny extreamly good and grate ting not somting like famili guy stuf.i see what you see
I agree it's not silly! Glad you've come around to my point of view :)
Really good video! I love the series, but as I’m Christian, I also feel bad but also good for Ivory. They have found happiness, but in turn have removed their old self. (I’m not trying to offend anyone or spread hate) It just creates an internal conflict for me when watching white pine.
