  • RIPP High Performance Coil Packs for Toyota Tacoma on the Dyno.
    We saw an increase from 237.5whp with the OEM coil packs to 254.7whp.
    This test was performed on a full factory drivetrain Tacoma using 87 octane fuel. Power and torque would increase with the use of higher octane fuel as we did experience knock and the PCM pulling timing with the 87 octane.

    I am a auto tech and normally don't buy into coil packs adding power unless you are forced induction and are blowing out the spark but...
    I read and saw the results from RIPP and decided to try a set for myself.
    I have to be honest and say fuel economy went up as did part throttle acceleration. I am impressed so far but only have 150 miles with them. I am sure I will make more observations in the near future.
    It only took 20-30 minutes to install them. Fit and finish is very nice as well.
    Just so you know my truck has a magnaflow muffler, k&n filter with air box mods, and a D3 tune.
    I made a 27 mile loop part country roads with a little in town and saw 20.1 on the trip fuel mileage.

    I don’t buy Into this stuff. The ecm and mass airflow are regulating how much fuel and air are mixed and the vehicle advances timing based on octain to certain parameters set in the computer. “ sure it may work if you have bigger injectors, higher airflow, bigger exhaust, high flow cars and you ecm is programmed to dump extra fuel which would benefit from more ignition spark/ timing etc but that’s not gonna add 1 hp to a stock 3.5 L Tacoma . Sounds like a get Rich quick product. You’ll get more gain from dropping a dual electric fan up front and taking out the stock fan and running premium than you will from coils.
    Others articles have stated below ...
    “ No, unless they’re somehow defective as installed. If you’re asking if aftermarket coils installed in a stock engine will increase horsepower, or reduce emissions, or increase gas mileage, or make the engine run smoother, the answer is no. “
    “When manufacturers spend billions of dollars trying to squeeze another 1/2 mpg out of an engine system, do you think they wouldn’t have already used the best ignition system they could, particularly when it’s a cheap and fast procedure? Other people’s suggestions stated “
    Answered December 27, 2019
    “That’s a definite maybe. In short, people upgrade the coils for a handful of reasons. First, is if one or more of the factory ones are failing, some people will opt for something hotter. Second, is if you are not getting a complete burn due to increased fueling, like a turbocharged car with a lot more pressure. Lastly is if the driver wants to run a larger spark plug gap for some reason, and needs a hotter spark to jump the gap.
    Many years ago, on even a slightly warmed up car, there was often some power in a slightly larger gap and a higher output coil. Anything modern enough to have individual coil packs, any gain is probable to be more from replacing units with 100k miles on them than any actual power increase.”

    • @RIPPMODS
      @RIPPMODS  3 года назад +3

      Yea, but there are about 300 reviews and 20000+ coils sold that contradict your essay - sometimes adding 44% more spark energy to the plug ignites more fuel and it works - The PCM is adaptive, but its not keen to the fact that the spark energy is amplified and therefore more fuel is being ignited and there is both fuel saving and a power gain. It's really not that complicated.

FYI I have been running my stock coil packs for the last three weeks and it was horrible for the way I have my truck set up . Stock coil packs good enough for back up . I highly recommend running premium fuel . When ripp recommends you to you should. I'm rolling on 35's and stock gears with ECU tuned . I have a few other add-ons also . Best benefits when running premium fuel.

    • @RIPPMODS
      @RIPPMODS  3 года назад +1

      Stacking products doesn't often net a compounded gain. Exhausts and Intakes tend to barely make over 10hp together so your gain with the coil pack will remain relatively constant with the other parts. We actually had a K&N intake on this very Tacoma at one point and it made a staggering 1.7whp gain on this dyno.

      Hello, to date we have sold over 22000 sets of these high performance coils. We have taken back less than 1% over all sales of which a total of 15 (peice) were actually bad. We don't know where you are getting 33% from but it's not accurate or in line with what's really going on. Some people install these on old plugs, or crack their spark plugs on install and misinterpret that for a bad coil. In any event we have a no hassle warranty and take care of our clients in real time and not days. You're welcome to call or email our office for further affirmation.

    FYI for any Toyota fans, the stock OEM coil for the 4.0L v6 is the same coil used in the Camry (2.4L), Matrix (2.4L), Tacoma (2.7L and 4.0L), and Tundra (4.0L) all the way back to 2011. So, there is a fairly large portion of the Toyotas on the road that could use these coils.
    Unfortunately, any vehicle with the 3.5 L v6 cannot use these coils because they use an entirely different ignition coil. With that said though, RIPP, if you create an ignition coil for the 3.5 L v6, you'll support the Avalon, Camry, Highlander, RAV4, sienna, and Venza. Something I'm voting for!
