the HE shell on the He 112 A-0 literally does 0 damage. if you go into the armor protection analysis and use the he, it shows no damage and it is barely talked about
What the fuck how? How did they mess it up this bad when the 112 A-0 uses the same exact ammo as German 20mm ground (the MG/C30-L is basically just the A-0's engine mounted KwK30)
If this has been the case for a long time, I remember sitting behind a PBY in a 112a-0 back in like 2016 and unloading most of my air target, almost all HE, belt into the dude using cockpit sights to aim so all my shots hit. It seemed like I was shooting confetti at the plane in front of me, just watching that old animation style puff of smoke indicating constant hits. This coulda been a problem for a long time now.
Important note: the HE damage is still the same, only the damage to the surrounding components has been massively nerfed by realshatter due to the huge decrease in fragmentation.

Anytime there is an update even to something like weapons systems, I translate it into “how do we make it more painful of an experience”. Hopefully this changes soon but I’ll believe it when I see it.

The problem isn't really that Gaijin implemented realshatter, since it's a lot more realistic then the sphere of death (like with APHE). It's how there is very little consistency in the game and that that shells don't deal enough damage to components any more. If a 20mm HEFI aimed directly at the pilot can not take him out in one hit, there's probably some issue with the damage of the shell. Some HE shells also have too much fuze delay, so there's a good chance they will will penetrate parts of the airframe and explode on the other side, and with realshatter the damage decreases a lot more than with the previous sphere that could still damage everything around it.
realshatter is a good mechanic, the issue is that they put really low countPortion for all guns when they made the change so they are also getting reduced to 15-30% of their fragmentation count
As far as I know it's not really a decrease in fragmentation, only a change of fragmentation direction. When HE blows up, the fragments don't move in a spherical way, but in a cone shape, from the point of impact, in the direction the projectile was heading. It's more "realistic", yeah, but I believe they've overdone it. Cone should probably be larger and travel deeper than it is right now.

You don't tank a 30mm shell with an aircraft airframe lmao, it does to the insides and structure whatever it wants, meaning a hit on a critical spot will pretty much tear it all apart. Its not like taking a 50 call and expecting longer time to kill because of a few decent armour plates and a sloped steel airframe, bombers should be torn apart after getting hit by a few rounds.
in the meantime, use armor piercing incendiary (if you can). while not as effective on paper, they are certainly much more consistent than high explosive atm (or i have no idea what i'm talking about :) )

As a 10-year War Thunder player, the first time I experienced real-shatter gave me PTSD flashbacks of ~2013-2015 autocannons having many issues with sparking (especially against B-17s and B-24s specifically). At least I'm glad to know it wasn't a skill issue on my part, just a skill issue on the dev's part lol

Ironically enough DEFA 554s have always been decent. As of late they're some of the more consistent guns thanks to fuel explosions.

That's actually realistic to how a German 30mm mine-shell behaves. A single 30mm shell would blow a huge chunk out of an aircraft.
