We were very lucky that the wood was kept and our bedrooms another piece of the castle back to life

Beautiful bathroom! ❤ It's one of a kind. My preference is to put the bookcase somewhere else. You can place a smaller one in a lighter wood-colour, same as the washstand maybe. Or in the green-gray colour. The fireplace disappears in the corner now.

Thank you for your thoughts, that is very helpful. I agree the fireplace is a little lost at the moment.

It turned out lovely! I’ve never had a heated towel rack and wonder if the heat from it would affect that beautiful piece of furniture. 🇨🇦

A very good point, the heat is so low that it does not affect the furniture, we thought the moisture in the air might but as the ceilings are pretty high that seems to be alright as well.

It's a nice bathroom. But.. I'm sorry, I know, my opinion hardly matters. I have followed ALOT of chateau/castle/Maison d'maitre restorations on RUclips the last few years, and in my humble opinion, that room does not in any way, say castle. It could easily be mistaken for a fancy flat in... Sweden or wherever, really... And off course, it is personal taste, but I feel like, if I go to a castle or chateau for whatever reason, I have certain expectations, right? I mean, if you just close your eyes for a minute, and think about, what the word castle (or chateau), brings to mind, then what do you imagine? A modern IKEA style bathroom - or is it more claw foot bathtub, old brass fittings, mahogany, marble, antiques, heavy gold frames? I think that is quite an important pointe. Plus, every time I see someone, buying, or even viewing a castle, and there is a bathroom or kitchen, that was perfectly modern, just 10 years ago - It just looks horribly outdated already! It's as if the fact, that it is in these surroundings, makes it look bad, faster. But, if the bathrooms and kitchens are made in a very classic style, that looks more "original" to the castle - it just looks and feels better and more appropriate. Not, that those can't also look bad, but generally, if they are maintained and taken care of, they just fit the fantasy, you know?
Now, I don't mean, that you can't bring some contemporary into an old, or ancient, building. Fx. I really like, what you have started with the upholstery of the antiques! 😊

      Hi Rasmus,
Thank you for watching our videos and for your thoughts. I understand where you are coming from, and our whole ethos has been to maintain the soul of the building and make it fit for the next 400 years, and for that you need quality that can last.
The first rooms you have seen are not the best example of what we are working on overall. These rooms were empty shells, unused for 50 years, and even before that nothing more than simple servants quarters. That gives us some freedom in decorating them without trying to 'pretend' that they were always part of the castle in a certain way. I hope you will find that the actual castle rooms are evoking a feeling of being in a grand old building.
      With best regards from Ireland,
      Kolin and Alex
