    Poetry Man (Singer: Phoebe Snow)
    Ooh, yeah, yeah, yeah
    Ooh, yeah
    You make me laugh
'Cause your eyes, they light the night
    They look right though me
    La, la, la, la
    You bashful boy
    You're hiding something sweet
Please give it to me yeah, to me
Oh, oh, talk to me some more
    You don't have to go
    You're the poetry man
You make things all rhyme, yeah, yeah
    Ooh, yeah, yeah, yeah
    Ooh, yeah
    You are a genie
All I ask for is your smile
Each time I rub the lamp
    La, la, la, la
    When I am with you
I have a giggling teenage crush
Then I'm a sultry vamp, yeah, a sultry vamp
Oh, oh, talk to me some more
    You don't have to go
    You're the poetry man
You make things all rhyme, yeah, yeah
    Ooh, yeah, yeah, yeah
    Ooh, yeah
    Talk to me some more
    You don't have to go
    You're the poetry man
    You make things all rhyme
    Ooh, yeah, yeah, yeah
    Ooh, yeah
    So once again
It's time to say, "So long"
And so recall the law of life
    La, la, la, la
    You're going home now
Home's that place somewhere you go each day
To see your wife, yeah, yeah, yeah
    To see your wife
Oh, oh, talk to me some more
You know that you don't have to go
    You're the poetry man
You make things all rhyme, yeah
Oh, oh, talk to me some more
You know that you don't have to go
    You're the poetry man
    You make things all rhyme
    Songwriter: Phoebe Snow
    [Lyrics from LyricFind]
    Wikipedia states:
"Poetry Man" is a song by the American singer-songwriter Phoebe Snow. The song was written by Snow, produced by Dino Airali, and first appeared on her 1974 self-titled debut album.
Released as a single in late 1974, "Poetry Man" became Snow's first charting hit, rising to number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in April 1975 and number four in the Canadian RPM Magazine charts. The previous month, the song reached number one on the Billboard easy listening (adult contemporary) chart, where it remained for one week. The success of "Poetry Man" helped Snow achieve a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist in 1975, an award that was won that year by composer Marvin Hamlisch.
Retrospectively, Snow stated that the production of the song's record was more jazz-oriented than the eclectic, acoustic guitar-based music she often performed throughout her career, saying that she "never intended to be a jazz artist. That takes a heavy amount of background." The saxophone part on the recording is played by Zoot Sims.
On American Top 40 in September 1980, Casey Kasem claimed that Phoebe Snow said that the song is about Jackson Browne. This was later dispelled by Snow as a rumor that had arisen only because Browne was the first musician she had toured with after release of the song.

Yes the melancholy bitter sweet sadness of good times gone by. You know what helped me was I learned how to play acoustic 6 sting guitar. I just started playing for my own enjoyment. Then I bought a amp and microphone and just started singing the songs. Now I get to play for others occasionally at parties or an open mic night a a bar or club. It is soul satisfying to be able to play the song when you want to. And singing it adds a whole new dimension to enjoying it. Very surreal.

This song will be 45 years old this year. It stands the test of time. We baby boomers had the greatest time. Our parents were able to afford homes , we didn't have the internet , we played records and communicated with each other and the summer seemed endless. Now we are parents and grandparents. You don't hear sounds like this on the radio anymore. I told my son to listen to this song. I 'll bet in 45 years no one would remember Ariana Grande!

This song gives me goosebumps. It came out when I was an adolescent. Like a lot of people, I didn't really compute all of the lyrics, until later in life. Then I saw Phoebe Snow in an interview describing the motivation for the song. It's about her love affair with a married man. That took something away from the song for me -- I'm judgemental about that kind of thing. But, I still love Phoebe Snow's genius. Besides, she's human. Sigh.
