I wouldn't mind betting that these old treasures perform better now than they did when new -- modern tyres, modern greases and oils and modern material brake bands and shoes. I have a 1950 car as a hobby vehicle and the cheapest supermarket oil is superior to the best it was ever designed to run on i the first place. Same with grease-very much stickier now.
