I’m a 16 year old kid who was born in 2003. Unfortunately, I’ve never met ONE person my age who knows what this masterpiece of a cartoon is. It makes me quite sad. God bless the creators of this show and for letting me fall in love with it :) I don’t care if it’s 2055 or some shit, I’m showing this to my kids in the future.

Oh lots of great scenes! My favorite episode is when the crew takes turns calling earth for the last time before they leave the solar system...
When the chief sees his kids and hears about his granddaughter... just heartbreaking...
Or the episode when Derek discovers his older brother is still alive .... And then chooses to stay on Iscandar...
Really, this show was quite noble and so full of love...
Very good for children in that 11-14 year old range...
I still like to revisit it every once in a while... For inspiration...

I went to the Florida Supercon this weekend and one of the vendors had the entire series of Space Battleship Yomato (Star Blazers in the US) in Japanese with english subtitles. It was $30 which I think is fair given what I have seen on Amazon. Nice to be able to see the series from beginning to end but it is going to take a while to see the entire series. It is 9 DVDs and the first DVD is 6 hours alone so it is going to be a while to watch the entire series. The interesting part is that in the US it is called the Wave Motion Gun but in the english subtext, it is called the Ripple gun.

Fun fact: this was Chris Latta's first voice acting role. Funny how a few years later, he'd be voicing the leader of a ruthless organization AND a traitorous alien robot.

that sequence at around 0:39 is pretty cool. The ship has lots of mass and the way it takes the hit and then starts to list makes it seem a bit more believable. As an engineer I give the animators an A on that one

When I first saw this, WGNO 26 in New Orleans aired it in the mornings starting around the Christmas holidays; about a month later, we moved to Buffalo, where WUTV(Buffalo 29) aired it at 3 or 3:30 in the afternoon.

Hell yeah! StarBlazers, Force Five, Battle of the Planets, Captain Harlock, and then my favorites Voltron, Robotech, and Transformers a few years later were my reason to rush home after school in the early-mid 80s. I can't remember exactly which channel they were on, some might have been on 25, WSBK TV38, or WLVI 56. According to Wiki, only certain regions got FF.

I had few choices on TV as a kid: Looney Tunes, Three Stooges, Banana Splits, Seasame Street, Electric Company and Creature Double Feature.
    Then there was Star Blazers.
And then there was Star Wars.
