I haven't seen you fish for anything other than a crappie.
He fishes for white bass and bluegill in the summer. He occasionally fishes for catfish but crappie is his main target.

This is obviously spawning season. In Texas mid-February through early April. Most of these videos were from this year 2024.

Is there a particular time that you recommend to this way of fishing ? Like does it matter if I try this in the middle of the day or it's better early morning and evening ?
Early morning is best between 8-11 am if in the back of creeks shallow 1-4’. If off main lake channels noon -3pm is great.
Not for this type of fishing.
Best time of the year to do this is spawning season. And usually I start around 11-12 and fish till lake evening. Water is the warmest then.

I live 2 miles from property I manage for the city of Dallas in Wylie where lake Ray Hubbard connects to Lake Lavon by the east fork Trinity river. This creek produces a ton of big slabs for me very spawning season fishing those times. You must remember how crappie are much different than bass in a spawn. Therefore they don’t stay in one spot while there spawning, they’ll move around depending on current more than water temp. Once water temp reaches a certain level that flips there switch telling them it’s time then they are full steam ahead to get it done. That’s why you have such a short time period to get in and make it happen. This is hard for a weekend angler sometimes. This is also why my opinion revolves around what I have seen in the last 35 years of fishing. And the last 10 years managing this property which allows me to fish this particular creek often. But I have also fished the creeks in th back of fork and tawkani and the only one I saw a difference in was fork. They were late afternoon/evening bites. Idk why but in my opinion I thing they adapted to surviving with such a large predator that feed on them. Especially when they’re spawning because they’re in pre spawn feeding mode themselves and looking for big meals with big rewards and bass know the benefit crappie provide in there diet.
Once again these are my opinions based off my experiences of a lifetime of fishing. I primarily trophy bass fish but love pan fishing and going after large cats.

What brand of waiders do you recommend? I'm 6'5" size 14 shoe so I need something that will fit right and hold up in Missouri creeks.
So the crappie are spawning but it’s goin to rain 4 days in a row but the temperature is goin to stay 60-80 will they still stay shallow or would they go back deep cause of the rain?
They should stay shallow.

Hey, what is the fish line you’re use and do you use slips bobbers too?
First video in this compilation is with a slip cork. And I typically use 10# braid to a mono leader when slip corking. When I am wading I use straight 10# braid.
I’m only use size 6 line for crappies in my location….

I’m living in nc we don’t have alot bush around here, we fishing on bank only and under bridge only no boat… I’m only fishing inshore. ….im use ugly stik gx2 rod and Shimano spire 2500…what about you?

@@903fishing I saw your boat fishing my cove on Cedar Creek a week ago. Since they dredged the cove, we haven't had any luck (even with structure.) My granddad used to catch all kinds of fish but it's not good there anymore. Even with a cast net, I get nothing!
