Last Christmas, my high school played Minor Alterations. I jokingly asked my instructor if we would play this composition this year, and he said he had planned on it. I have told my friends and they all freaked out as much as I did. I'm so hyped!
Cristina Collaros reason why I don't want to play it. I regret my instrument if I knew it was going to be this hard I wouldn't have opted for the flute. It just looked cool and easy to play. I was just a naïve child then
We played the first one two years when I was in high school, one of my favorite peices by far. Now that I know there is a sequel it would have been awesome to play it! And oh my goodness this made me laugh! xD
We played the first one in our college/community band ... had a blast playing it. Soon as I heard this one I wanted to play it but our director thinks it might be a little above our heads. Still hoping we get the chance.
It's never above your head to stretch our skills out a little - TELL YOUR DIRECTOR! And as musicians, we're always better for it! Can't tell you how often I've struggled with a simple (or what looked simple) phrase, and spent hours to get better and better.
"I'm really exciteds for the new movie," I exclaims with excitement. Little did I know, it would be a feature. A creature feature. Featuring: the creature.
We're playing this in my high schools wind ensemble class. It's a ton of fun to play, but we unfortunately had to cut some parts in order for us to be able to play it in time for our concert.
My band played this and me and the other bassist like playing three ships and sorcerer apprentice. Everyone was like wait a minute they are playing but they aren’t moving the bows.
Would anyone happen to know a full song-by-song or track-by-track list of what songs are featured in this piece from beginning to end? I wish that the score/info about the piece had some sort of breakdown, but it doesn't.

Recently played this piece again... brought back memories from high school, but also a question. In both this recording and in my high school's performance, a part of the piece was left out- it would be at 7:42 in this recording. After playing it at my university and leaving it in, it was the one part I didn't remember, and I distinctly remember our high school band director cutting it out, not being an older version of the piece or anything. Has anyone else performed this with that cut? And if so- why is that cut made?
Frank It's not an alteration to it though, it's actually in the song. Considering that we just played it in community band's Christmas concert. It comes after the Angels We Have Heard on High part, and right before Frosty the Snowman. They actually cut some other stuff from it, now that I listen to it again. Which is bizarre. Huh. Oh well. Guess I'll listen to the other video that has the whole song.
David said in a comment that this recording was from the premiere of the piece before he added two more segments towards the end to help give the piece a final build to the end.
Minor Alterations 2- The Eclectic Boogaloo
Last Christmas, my high school played Minor Alterations. I jokingly asked my instructor if we would play this composition this year, and he said he had planned on it. I have told my friends and they all freaked out as much as I did.
I'm so hyped!
Yeah, my band played Minor Alterations last year too! I doubt we'll get to play this one this year though... ;-;
Same thing we wanted to play minor alterations again and he surprised us with the second one
I played it two years ago 2 trumpet the parts were so f-ing high my face was bright red
Same!!!
"Oh Christmas Tree" = Darth Vader 😂
Cian Guitar welcome to the world of minor music
5:58 Ride of the Valkyries with Oh Holy Night was the absolute best combo.
David Lovrien is a genius
Right?!?
Yes I love the first 1 Christmas through the looking glass
I absolutely LOVE that combination of Three Ships and Sorcerers Apprentice! =D
I play french horn and this song is really fun. I love it so much. It isn't too hard, but it is difficult.
I play college horn and this is so fun to blast during the ride of the Valkyries
one of the hardest things ever was getting this together in one week for a concert
How purify your ears of Mariah Carrey’s All I want for Christmas
I'm glad to know I'm not the only person who absolutely abhors that trash passed off as music. Thank you
Lmao
Next thing you know someone's going to make a minor key cover of that song out of spite. Though I feel like that's been done already
I’m happy to see that I’m not the only one who absolutely despises that song. Idk why so many people like it.
So excited for this piece in our next concert! #bassoonsrule
Nicole Alioto hell yeah
Alla Breve Educational Consulting i love the bassoon feature part. maybe my favorite part of the entire song.
I hope it went well!! -🎺
ct8ygtc gel hash and a picture
Playing this in band this year. This is above my playing skills for now, but i absolutely love it
This is how we learn our horns...playing stuff we think is too hard for us....
were playing this, this year in wind ensemble and it's really fun and a creative piece but its really hard for the flutes #secondflute
Its not hard as long as you put in the work. Anyways, how was the concert
Bassoon
FLUTESSSSS
Cristina Collaros reason why I don't want to play it. I regret my instrument if I knew it was going to be this hard I wouldn't have opted for the flute. It just looked cool and easy to play. I was just a naïve child then

same with me
Heard this on Performance Today and it's even more delightful the second time!
Heard it there too, had to check it out afterwards!
I got the opportunity to play this with the Honolulu Wind Symphony this year, it was really fun to play. Thanks, Mr. Higaki!
The beginning sounds like straight up Tchaikovsky 😂
We played the first one in our college/community band ... had a blast playing it. Soon as I heard this one I wanted to play it but our director thinks it might be a little above our heads. Still hoping we get the chance.
my high school band played the first one and our band director thinks we're ready for this one. help me (i play clarinet T-T)
It's never above your head to stretch our skills out a little - TELL YOUR DIRECTOR! And as musicians, we're always better for it! Can't tell you how often I've struggled with a simple (or what looked simple) phrase, and spent hours to get better and better.
Rip the non-existent trombones; lived well, but died of silence
Yep
Heard this on Performance Today as well. It is a ton of fun to listen too.
Playing this piece this year. I play bassoon so I got a solo boiz!
"I'm really exciteds for the new movie," I exclaims with excitement. Little did I know, it would be a feature. A creature feature. Featuring: the creature.
I finally convinced my band director to play this next Christmas concert
We're playing this in my high schools wind ensemble class. It's a ton of fun to play, but we unfortunately had to cut some parts in order for us to be able to play it in time for our concert.
My band played this and me and the other bassist like playing three ships and sorcerer apprentice. Everyone was like wait a minute they are playing but they aren’t moving the bows.
The trombone solo isn’t in the actual sheet music lol
Bro I was so confused playing along with the music and then hearing T R O M B O N E 😂
it is in mine
@@MemeDictator Then you are at the right place my friend, the orchestral version is the one without the solo
Meme Dictator theres teo versions, the old version has it while the new version is different, the new version is on the lovebird website
* Cries * I play trombone ;-;

@@superscrounger Nice work--but note the quote of Camille Saint-Saens' "Bacchanale" from "Samson et Dalila" against "Joy to the World." ;)
A Very Soviet Christmas
Allischalmerswd45kid in Russia, Christmas celebrates you
Part 1 really sounds Soviet!
Concert band students: What are you
This: death
This song slaps on trumpet
These are the songs I could hear:
O Christmas Tree
Idk
Little Drummer Boy
Glory in the highest
Idk
12 Days of Christmas
Away In The Manger
Most Wonderful Time of the Year
Idk
Some arrangement made to sound like March of the valkyries
Hosana in the Highest
Frosty the Snowman
Joy to the world
First idk is The sorcerer's apprentice, very popular due to it being Fantasia by Disney.
Its also combined with the Christmas tune "I saw three ships"
The last idk is O Little Town of Bethlehem and the arrangement with Ride of the Valkyries is O Holy Night
Funeral March of a Marionette is played when the audience laughed. It was the theme for the television series Alfred Hitchcock Presents
What song is 7:40? I love how it sounds, but I don't know the name
I am unsure of what carol begins at 7:40, but starting 7:54, it moves into a minor variation on Frosty the Snowman.
It is joy to the world
FROSTY THE SNOWMAN!
At 7:40 it is frosty the snowman as well, just in 5/4, minor, and mixed with some extra spices.

The one you’re talking about is the full orchestra version
@@sand12432 No, its written in the sheet music for the concert band version as well.
I love this! Love the first one too!
Trombone solo got me dead :’)
same
1:14 ok sorcerers apprentice
Who else is listening to this the day before the concert?
Listening to it on the day of mine...
does 5:41 sound like "feed the birds" to anyone?
YES
I didn’t know Frosty the Snowman could go so hard
love this
What is the song present at the 5:10 mark? Very nice piece.
+Kyle Langston no idea, i was thinking the same thing
It's "Oh little town of Bethlehem", music by Louis Redner.
3:02 My favorite part!
Little Drummer Boy=Uranus from the Planets?
Jordin Wang Yesss I was thinking the same thing
YESS
Why was the audience laughing at 1:32?
Because the composer mashed two well known pieces together
Because it mixed with funeral march so well
@@bigmustang1972 sorcerer’s apprentice* :)
@@Graham_M they're clearly laughing at the part where he mixes it with with Funeral March of a Marionette.
When my college community band performed this piece last year I heard somebody in the audience laugh at this same section in the piece.
At 6:40 what's that song?
A mash up of oh holy night and flight of the valkyries
What is that final piece of music at 7 40 i think
Ride of the Valkyries
It's not flight of the valkyries, it's frostie the snowman
Can someone send me the trombone solo, my sheet music doesn’t have it
Can I ask why the Grinch Stole Christmas part is left out?
Hah, that would be a question for the composer. But you never know, maybe there'll be a Minor Alterations No. 3.
Frank It's not an alteration to it though, it's actually in the song. Considering that we just played it in community band's Christmas concert. +Kaitlyn Davis It might have something to do with the fact that this is the concert band version and not the orchestral band version but idk
This recording is from the premiere, before I added 2 new sections toward the end to help build energy.
Playing Eb clarinet!
How do we buy this? We need it for our concert band.
You can buy this and other pieces by David Lovrien at his website: Lovebird Music. There is a link in the description.
jaredhira - May the concert continue! Thanks!!
Kylo walks out of his ship they play this song
6:05
5:59 I see what you did there.
Is part of this song cut out? I think the orchestral version has a "Joy to the World" part but I didn't notice it here.
Daniel Stroup yeah they cut like, 30 something measures out of it. I dunno why though, it's weird.
David said in a comment that this recording was from the premiere of the piece before he added two more segments towards the end to help give the piece a final build to the end.
You’re a Bozoboe (inside joke to a friend, it’s a really cool piece)
JULIANNE
1:15
bro that trombone solo
Where's my alto sax solo gang at :)
*Cries in tenor sax*
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer freylach!
why is the trombone jazzy I did this with my band and it should not sound like that.
Because why not, It sounded nice to me
