    Vegas was way better when the mob ran Vegas. The comps were way better. Free rooms. $2.95 dinner buffets. Free drinks on the floor. They knew how to take care of you.

      People say that, but Mob Vegas is completely different to Modern Vegas.
      Las Vegas is so popular today, why bother being good value when millions of people are coming, with numbers increasing every year?

    Between 1974 and 2005, I worked as a musician there, as well as in Reno, Lake Tahoe and every other god forsaken casino across the Nevada high deserts.
    It was heaven and hell, but I loved every minute of it.
    After 911, the steady work started to dry up, so I moved over to cruise ships, working around the world. Those were great times for working musicians…

    Those $2 and $3 buffets are long gone (I'm factoring in inflation). For the same price back then you'll pay more for a Big Mac Meal. Now, for a below average buffet at a place like Excalibur, it will set you back about $30. Also, don't get me started about hotel room prices with "resort" and "destination" fees on top of that. Today they milk you for every dollar you got, even before you set foot in the casino.

    Fremont Street was the best parr of Las Vegas back in the day. Those neon lights on Frement were fabulous. Fremont Street in its heyday was the perfect blend of glitz and over-the-top kitchiness. IMO it was ruined when it was covered and a zip line added. It has become a cheap Disneyland-like side attraction. I'm old enough to remember when people used to dress up in Vegas at night; no t-shirts or flip flops in the days of the Rat Pack!

  • @noconsentgiven
    @noconsentgiven 9 месяцев назад +1

    It would be cool if they could re-spawn some of the legendary casinos down on the Fremont strip or the area. They would be smaller of course and could host world class impersonators that represent those acts from the era of that casinos heyday😮🥲. It could be a down to the button mockup of the original casinos. Almost like an interactive museum. That would be marvelous!!

    The first place I stayed when I went to Las Vegas was a place called the Riviera and it was across the street I think from Circus Circus...
    It was so much better back then..less traffic.. better comps...better gambling...less fees like resort and parking... wtf happens to Vegas..??
    Way too expensive for what you get and what you have to put up with such as homeless people and traffic.. the gambling was horrific and maybe that is why the casinos were pretty much empty... yea I went last year for the first time in like 10 years and all I can say is what a difference and I doubt I'll ever go back

    Gas was $1.19 with buffets under $20 and so on; now the properties are so expensive the owners have to raise prices and lower payouts, charge fees for everything and no comps. Plus, what happened to the show girls? I miss handling the cash, too. These hotels were not built buy the winners so there must be a few losers going there now-a-days. “The town will never be the same. After the Tangiers, the big corporations took it all over. Today it looks like Disneyland. And while the kids play cardboard pirates, Mommy and Daddy drop the house payments and Junior's college money on the poker slots.
    In the old days, dealers knew your name, what you drank, what you played. Today, it's like checking into an airport. And if you order room service, you're lucky if you get it by Thursday.
    Today, it's all gone. You get a whale show up with four million in a suitcase, and some 25 year old hotel school kid is gonna want his Social Security Number.
    After the Teamsters got knocked out of the box knocked out of the box, the corporations tore down practically every one of the old casinos. And where did the money come from... Junk Bonds”.
