  • Sara is in law school, so she moved back in with my parents to save money. During the week Sara works and go to school, during any free time is spent studying. On the weekends Sara ready to get out of the house and go have some fun. Sara's mom gets mad and says she don't spend enough time with her and she's just using her house as a “hotel."
    How can Sara compromise with her mom so that she doesn't feel left out?

    Steve is right, as a mother of four, my time to create valued traditions was during those 18 years. I love that my children organize family dinners/outings/bdays and such on their own and invite me. Hearing my daughter tell me I am her best friend and she cherishes our relationship was everything I hoped for and way more than I ever expected. That is priceless. Let the good people (you raised) be who they were meant to be. Being a mother of adult children is only a title. Having great connections and honoring our adult relationships is a gift. It is a different joy than when they were babies and depended on me. Now I get to be there as they walk their sacred path and serve as their advisor. IF and ONLY IF they call on me.

      I do not agree, with due respect. I am not a mother, I have a mother, so i am coming from a different point of view. A mother deserves companionship of her children. And from the moment the child becomes able, it is not a choice but an absolute moral obligation that s/he starts caring for the mother, in whichever way she needs. A mother should be a priority in life in any case, not an extra curricular activity. A mother doesn't have to be the best friend! Being a mother having taken care of her children through the period of infancy and childhood is enough for her to be deserving of that. I know western societies have a lot of leniency to that regard, but coming from an Islamic background I can tell you that this is the absolute foundation of a family for us, our mothers are our queens! Forever!

    • @blackfeet5810
      @blackfeet5810 2 года назад +5

      @@Afif.anNayem.asSalafi i think your comment doesn't do justice to kids from all backgrounds. Some are raised in harsh and toxic conditions from their parents, and therefore they seek to just get out as soon as they hit adulthood. Relationships are formed, not forced. If she was a good mother to her children, no doubt she will receive love and care from the kids in later years

    Honestly, kids should not have the excuse of stress. First of all, being a parent and raising you all those years moms especially have to juggle alot of stuff including raising the kids, taking care fo the house, having a romantic relationship, taking care of themselves, having freidnships, and studying/working ontop of that. So, when a parent hears this type of stuff, like Mom, I'm studying and I want some time to destress with my friends, it sounds very disappreciative of all of the years they had to take care of you as you grew into an adult and had to manage their own lives on top of that. She isn't asking for her daughter to spend every living moment with her, and she said she's like a ghost meaning she probably doesn't even talk to her mom for more than a few minutes or more than once a day even when she's in the house. If you are living with someone, even if that someone is your roommate you still try to keep some sort of casual chat going on to maintain a healthy relationship.
    Her mom only wants her to spend a little bit of time with her as her daughter, and she has 2 days for the weekend. She can spend time with her friends during the day, and then have dinner with her family. She doesn't even need to spend the weekend time with her mom; if she's living at the parents' house then she has to eat at some point during the day she can eat with her mom rather than eating while studying, etc. And if they want to do some kind of activity she can talk to her mom and schedule the activity in just like if it was with her friends so she knows in advance and can do it at a time when she won't be so busy.
    When you have relationships you also have to maintain them, or else they can fall apart.
    Also, I'd like to mention how the daughter wants an independent lifestyle but isn't willing to give some sort of "item" in return for her parents letting her live in their house, even though she is a fully grown woman. She returns home because it's cheaper, but she doesn't want to spend a little bit of time with her mother. She can give time to her friends even though she has a busy schedule and stressful life, but can't sit down for a meal with her mom. Yeah, the mom seems like she talks alot but she also seems she genuinely wants to connect with her. I'm with the mom on this; I think the daughter needs to compromise because if she's going to treat the situation as an advantage to her life and career then she also needs to exchange something in return for the advantage.

      A son is a son until he meets a wife. A daughters a daughter all of her life. The mom has no friends and is treating her daughter like her bbf who is backstabbing her for not being in the house. Jeez that girl has a full deck of study and work and has to let off steam. She is trying to hang onto her friends. You need them. She's gonna have to get a hobby going or get a part time job. Volunteer or something so she has news to share herself and has something to offer if and when grandchildren show up. Her husband needs to sit down and genuinely talk with her about their future or lack thereof. Couples get sidetracked like this and by retirement age no longer know each other or have anything in common. Either seperation or divorce if she doesn't quit bugging everyone for attention. She's keeping it in the home at least and not running around being a bother outside. Poor woman is lonely and looks like she's retired and worked, so wasn't the homebody. Can't put that clock back unfortunately. The daughter is an amazing soul, but too much pressure for her young shoulders. Hope it works out for them.

    I can srsly relate with the daughter. I be studying and working so in my free time I like to spend it with my friends or reading in my room, but my mum don’t like it. I talk to her here and there, but whenever I do it always results in a lecture so I barely do it anymore cause I be too tired for it.
    Parents srsly be wanting so much from us and don’t even think to look at themselves as part of the reason why we don’t be doing what they want.
    And I like what Steve said. Parents had all them 18 yrs for it so if we ain’t as present now, it should be okay. And like what Steve also said, that mother at 23 wasn’t nearly as present with her parents as well so pls don’t make it a big deal parents, ur children gotta use them wings without you. Just let them and remember that they’ll always come back if they love you.

      Old comment but this kinda looks like wanting your cake and eating it too. If you wanna "fly", then fly. But do that on your own power. Being at home under your mom's roof, eating her food, under her protection from the elements, is not flying. That's what children do.

I would barely spend time with my family and that for almost 2 years. But now I am working, planing my wedding and I spend lots of times during the weekend with my family and my future in laws. This mom needs to be patient. It is not true that when her daughter leaves the house that she will not see her anymore!

    The mom should be happy that her daughter came back home. Now, as a parent, you know that your child has a home to come home to where there's people who love her. That she has food when she's hungry. That she has a safe, nice warm bed to sleep in at night. Does she pay a bit of rent? Yes. Well, ok. Stop nagging. No? Well, she's your wonderfull daughter who's going to law school isn't she?

    I don't care how busy she is,have dinner one night a week with her family is not impossible nor unreasonable to ask. Her mom raised her and took care of her for years now she has to beg her to spend some time with her. no one begged her mom to feed her or put a roof over her head and prepare her for that great future . I love you Steve, but I don't agree with you here

    • @penelopelane5753
      @penelopelane5753 9 лет назад +28

      Actually, her caring for her child is not a favor to her daughter, it was her responsibility when she decided to have a child. I'm not saying that I don't sympathize with a mother who is having trouble letting her baby live her life without her, but the idea that feeding and putting a roof over your child's head is optional is beyond ludicrous.

    • @2012loveyourself

      Penelope Lane what you said makes sense but it also make sense to show a little bit of gratitude and love as a daughter and a mother shouldn't feel guilty about this. I don't know if you have children but if you don't when you will have some, you will understand how hurtful it is to love a child so much and have to beg him to spend time with you nobody is saying that she should make her life revolve around her mom but at least show her gratitude, dinner one night a week when you live under my roof is not that impossible for giving you life , that life that she wants to enjoy away from her mom, she gave it to her.I am from Africa and in my culture parents are really important and we are greatful and loving towards them as we get older sometimes even when we live in different countries. IF your mom is around call her sometimes , take her out when you have a chance because one day you will wish you had enjoyed her and done all those things. thanks
