- De'Angela has a Birthday coming up, it's the day after Christmas. Everybody gives De'Angela one gift on Christmas day and says it's her Christmas/Birthday present. This has been happening all of De'Angela's life and she doesn't think it's fair.

As family-oriented as the Black culture is, I have yet to see one as severe as Hispanics or Asians.

I always thought it would make sense to celebrate on March 1st so a leap year baby would always have their birthday one day after Feb 28th, but then it wouldn't fall within the month of February. Awww, your family should get you a nice gift, come on fam... 🎂 Happy belated birthday 😊.

I use the term black loosely because not all people of darker colour identify as black and have different terminology within their society/culture. Nevertheless, this is quite common in African, Carribbean, etc families who may have a regular income. Also other races may have a similar experience which I think is related to income or family ethics.

December 26 is my dad's birthday also. I'm 15 so I don't have a lot of money but I used almost everything I have to get him four gifts. 2 for Christmas and 2 for his Birthday.

However, 2 things: I was her only AND I still didn't get all the stuff I got for Christmas. I got a cake, dinner and a movie, or something more low key. On major bdays I would get a party. Bless my Mommy's heart - she made SURE it was special and she was a single mom; with help from Granny. God love them both - they are both with the Savior now, but I thank God EVERYDAY for them and their sacrifices and teaching me to know and love Jesus! Nothing better!

If her family treats her one way differently than her other siblings, then it's not a matter of a holiday-birthday, it's a matter of preferential treatment (her mother favors the others). She can easily counter with giving them one gift to open on one holiday or occasion (anniversary, birthday, etc.), but will receive none the rest of the year. It would be a gift to herself to celebrate Christmas by herself somewhere she will be happy, as a gift to herself, and celebrate her birthday with her friends. It maybe hurt her to not be around family, but since her mother is quite narcissistic, it wouldn't be a loss to slowly have none of them in her life. If she lives close to them, she should move to distance herself.
I saw this and was almost in tears laughing so hard! I love Steve Harvey. My son was born on December 22nd so l went through the same thing so l separating the gifts.
