Arlindo Lúcio da Silva, Geraldo Baeta da Cruz and Geraldo Rodrigues were three soldiers of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force on the WWII (Brazil was the only south-american country to send infantry troops to fight in the Mediterranean Campaigns of the WWII). On 14th April, 1945, during the Battle of Montese, the three were involuntarily separated from their unit and had an encounter with aprox. 100 German soldiers. The three receieved surrender orders from the Germans, but they refused it and engaged in combat. They fought so hard and withstood so long that the Germans thought that some Brazilian backup had come for them and there was virtually no "numeric disadvantage". In the end, all the three were killed. Arlindo was mortally wounded by a sniper, Rodrigues faced death in form of a mortar shrapnel and Baeta got himself a quick death with a unfortunate headshot. After the Germans saw that only three soldiers created some heroic chaos, the German commander gave an order to bury them on site and, on their graves, they put three crosses with "Drei Brasilianische Helden" (Three Brazilian Heroes) written on them. Their corpses were found and now are in the mausoleum of WWII Memorial on Rio de Janeiro. Their feats were so amazing that the Swedish metal band Sabaton made a music about them
where did you read how they died? from what i could find they fired untill out of bullets then charged the germans with bayonetts. all honor to them no matter how it happened though.
