  • Did Colin break a leg? After weeks of pain, we end up on an emergency narrowboat trip to the hospital where he finds out why he's been in so much pain. We cruise from Cropredy to the nearest A&E department in Banbury. Ten minutes in a car, but over three hours by narrowboat.
While in Banbury, Colin uncovers the story behind the rhyme, 'Ride a Cock Horse to Banbury Cross', which starts Shaun off giggling! There are also beautiful views of the countryside surrounding the Oxford Canal.
Catch-up on every vlog, from the beginning, in order, as we explore Britain by Narrowboat:

After the battle of Edgehill (1642) the local castle at Broughton was laid siege by Royalists...The lady of the Manor, Lady Fiennes escaped and rode into the town of Banbury on a Cock Horse...(A Cock Horse is the name given to an extra horse that was fitted to a team of horses to assist going up hills.(extra horse power !))... she rode to the town ringing a bell warning the towns people that the Royalists were coming...
Love the video guys I used to live in Banbury in the 60's very different there now but the canal on the outskirts are the same..As kids we used to open the bridges for the boats to pass, and help out on the locks.
    all the best..

Having depression I don't normally have good dreams. Last night however I dreamed that I was lying in an inner tube being towed by Silver Fox, a beautiful sunny day, with ducks all around me. Hope I have it again. Just goes to show the two of you can lighten my mood. Thank you Colin and Shaun.😀😄👍👍🇬🇧

Spending time on one has now been added to the top of our bucket list. The scenery is so beautiful and peaceful. Hi, from WV. I'm up just at the end of The Erie Canal system. They ran down through Canal Winchester, Ohio where there is a nice museum and replicas along the tow path. There is some of the canal left at Hockkngsport Ohio just near me. But I've never seen these beautiful Narrow boats like Shaun & Colin's. But as they cruise you can see there are thousands of them in this narrowboat culture in England. I'm completely fascinated. Love these fellows and Dillon. ❤️

    Good Morning from Denmark.
Before moving here I lived in the West riding of Yorkshire, and my Gran used to make coffeebuns. I make them now. Here is the recipe.
8oz self-raising flour, 4oz butter, 1 egg, beaten, 4oz brown sugar, 1 tbsp baking powder, 6oz currants/sultanas/raisins, splash of milk.
Rub the butter into the flour . Add dry ingredients. Mix in egg and milk slowly to form a sticky dough. Spoon dollops of mixture onto a greased baking tray. Bake in oven for appox 25 mins at 180C.
    Cheers

The quality of your channel is outstanding and you two guys are so relaxed and friendly that I really feel like I’m part of your extended family. So thank you so much for that. So your walking cast reminded me of a funny (now) story. In 2005, we took my 78-year-old mum on a narrowboat trip for a week. It was wonderful! We stopped one day to take a look at a church in the country (someone famous was buried there). As we walked in there were some workers doing some paving work, with a small trench, maybe a foot deep.
As we walked out, my mother fell into the trench in the churchyard, injuring her foot and shoulder. I couldn't get the workers to just cover her up, instead, we had to take an ambulance to the local A&E and she ended up in a walking boot with a stress fracture to her foot, and a sling for her arm.
We continued with the trip for the next 4 days or so, and when we returned, apparently a legend had spread up and down the canal about the old lady who had nearly died in the churchyard...
    Hope it heals!

I know you asked us to not give advice about your leg, but this is something of which i've got some experience. I've had a whole heap of sporting injuries to my legs when I was younger, that now in my mid 30's are making things more difficult than they need to be. so i've learned quite a lot about pain management and how to allow yourself the space to heal.
The best thing for bone pain in the lower leg is to take one of seans empty whine bottles, wash it out thouroughly, dry it in the sun, then take it to where you spend time relaxing, fill the bottle with wiskey, and give it back to sean. It will do SFA for your pain, but you'll have more fun on those long days stuck in a boat.

Banbury think that were LTC Rolt's started from in 1939 who wrote the book 'Narrow Boat'. Same say it was that book that started people living on a narrow boat's not just people working on the canal's (note he would not been the first to live on the canal but the book open the idea to others). Which started the movement to keep the canal's.

I really do love all the historical comments and stories you pass along. I so want to come to the UK some day and just pend a few weeks on the canals.Take care of the leg and Sean, take care of Collin as we know he won't take care of himself! Your channel is rapidly becoming my fav! I absolutely just adore the two of you & your banter plus having a sweet dog is just a bonus! I learn so much history from your vids and the views are stunning! Admittedly, I am living vicariously thru your life on a narrowboat. I'm in Florida and we used to live about a 45' Columbia sailboat- Time just passes by so much gentler on a boat: no stress, fewer worries. Hope your leg is on the mend soon! Look forward to the next video!

Use the white milk inside the stem of the nettle, this will neutralize the sting of the nettle. I reached into stinging nettles once with both arms to get a football, once when younger. Both arms lit up. I used the milk of the larger stems. Rubbed it on. Stopped the sting near immediately. I did this having heard that many poisonous plants have the antidote in themselves. Wasn't sure it was going to work.
