Yes, indeed! I couldn't agree more with this message, because I had such a person in my life. That poisonous person was my brother. I went no contact with him in 2010. I ABSOLUTELY had to do that for my mental health, and also for my safety. This bastard is a cocaine addict, has had anger management issues for just about his whole life, is a control freak, talks in a VERY loud voice, threatens people, and got 3 times divorced. Even his 2 adult children went no contact with him. They now take the mother's maiden name as their last name. He fleeced me of over 10,000$, and a girlfriend of 5,000$. Reneging on loans. I can't even begin to tell you how good it feels to live alone, except to say that one cannot put a price on PEACE! 😊💜
It's gets really really difficult when the toxic one is your parent... We can't cut them off or go no contact unless we are financially independent and we can't easily become financially independent with all the damage their psychological abuse has caused😢
Having toxic parents? Do not cut off relationship with your loved ones, just do not stay long with them. While away, maintain contact. But then while around them, do everything you can to stay away. In a nutshell, remove yourself periodically.

Well, the people around you are a reflection of parts of yourself. If you want better people around you, you have to become better so you can attract better. Valuing yourself enough to cut out harmful people is a necessary first step, however, it will only be temporary so long as you do not heal the part of you that attracted those kinds of people in the first place.

You don’t have to displace your coworkers or anyone. But you have to make your choices and uphold your integrity. If it means that you have to stand alone in many cases then so be it. Of course in workplace you have to work with many toxic people 24*7, but don’t let them get to you, or influence your decisions. You don’t need to flatter them, agree to their toxic opinions and follow their example and become toxic to others. Sometimes in standing alone and holding your ideals you’ll become extremely unpopular, hardly have anyone to help during your times of need, experience unfair circumstances where you being the deserving person, still gets denied of opportunities just because you didn’t tag along with those toxic people. But its worth it. It’s worth it to stand alone and cling on to your good ideals in life than to compromise that in the name of blending in and pleasing others. Working in a toxic environment with no support is very stressful but if you are honest in your work and hold your ground, your confidence and morals, no one can stop you from achieving success. It’s better to stand alone than become toxic yourself. All you need is to be at peace with yourself and your decisions and choices.

@@ranithoi6567 you're welcome dear. I'm a recently graduated doctor and had a fair share of daunting toxic experiences during my internship. So I've learnt it the hard way. Stand up for yourself. In my case being the sincere kid and the class topper and an introvert, I faced quite a bit of toxicity during the internship. I was initially at a loss to do anything because I had never faced such toxicity or bullying in my life before ... I listened to those people, tried to adjust and take all the responsibility including that of others onto my shoulders and do all the work but the situation never got better. Due to work stress and mental stress that I was put through, I lost 5-6 kg in 1&1/2 months, along with dealing with other chronic medical issues at the same time... I finally stood up for myself, defied some of my seniors who were responsible for their behaviour, but always had the support of my professor who knew me as a hardworking and talented student since early on in med school. My prof realised that what I was facing was somewhat bullying. And when he came to know about the stuff it became a bit better, because obviously they didn't expect me to directly go to the office and hod and take action. Got to hear a lot of threats from them, like not getting completion certificate etc if I complain and what not... Later on I realised that they took advantage of my sincerity and humility. I became unpopular among these people but believe me it was 100% worth it. When I finally stood up, no one had even the audacity to fight back, seems like their completion certificates were at risk now and they would have a bad reputation in the eyes of our professor, which was already bad to begin with... I shared this experience with you coz I know that these situations though unwanted are very common. Remember the only person who'll protect you is yourself. So work hard, give your best and always try to analyze and rectify your mistakes and improve your shortcomings but don't let anyone trample on your sanity. They are not deserving of that. More power to you. 💪🏻 P.S. In all the other departments I had a really good experience, had amazing seniors to guide me through. So be assured that you'll have your fair share of thorns and roses. Cherish and celebrate the positive people around you. As for the negative people, avoid them and if they try to bring you down, rise so high with your honest efforts and hardwork in your life, that they can't even touch you.
The truth is. No one will be happy for. You. Other than your parents..so do it for them and it's better to have no people or friends around you because eventually they are gonna drag you behind..
Unfortunately she is very vague about what poisonous and toxic means. Some toxic people might reject anyone who is critical of them yet they are the healthy ones.
There is no one who is genuinely happy for you,literally no one,except mother and father. So better focus on making you strong so that toxcicity of others can't effect you.(not disagreeing the fact that stay away from toxic people but only as much as possible)
