    Drain cleaner here, so here's some tips. The pressure bags made from canvas instead of rubber are tougher and can seal better in scaly cast. If you are using this to deal with a blockage affecting multiple fixtures in your home it will never work, this needs to be sealing off the only opening between the bag and the clog, or you will flood out somewhere else.
    If you hear the water stop flowing into the bag, leave it for a few minutes and hopefully water pressure will be able to slide out the soft blockage. If it does NOT clear the blockage, be ready to catch some water, which will be a good amount in a horizontal line.
    My company uses these as a last resort if snaking or water jetting does not work, as the risks of damaging pipes or water coming back if it doesn't work is worse than trying other things first. Make sure you buy the correct size for your drain, they make 4" ones that can clear main lines as well, however these can only help with very specific types of blockages. Be certain what is blocked and what is connected between you and the blockage.

    Hey, plumber here, if the blockage is in the ptrap i dont recommend using water pressure to clear it, its easier to removed the ptrap and clear it with a screwdriver or something that can be pushed through like a rag. However if the blockage is past the ptrap and is somewhere between the sinks drain connection and where it ties into the main drain system you shouldnt connect the balloon to the sink drain but rather remove the entire ptrap and place the balloon into the threaded adaptor directly since after the threaded adaptor there will be no more threaded joints and you wont risk a blowout.
    I say this because on a traditional ptrap like the one you showed in the video there are typically 4 threaded plastic joints which could pop loose under high pressure typically anything over 10psi, you dont want to risk damaging the threads on the ptrap since you would then have to replace it because it would never make a good seal again
    But yes that balloon does work for most small issues but typically wont clear bad blockages because if it all doesnt breakaway at the same time then theres a chance youll only open a small hole which will let water drain but not solve the issue of lets say build up on the interior of the pipe

      @hardlyb Месяц назад +304

      I got a laugh when I saw him putting the balloon down the drain. First take the trap off, as you say.
      When I was in college my landlord had to send for a plumber to snake from my second floor apartment, and he ran out quite a bit of snake, and came back with what looked like about half of a sweatshirt! We could never figure out how someone could get that into the drain. But things worked a lot better after that.

Even if it can take 100psi and you hit it with 60 (100 is only in very new homes for the most part) all it takes is one weak pipe, one area not sealed enough to cause a burst that will then domino.

If the clog is very stubborn and you use it the way you did in the video, it could potentially fill up the vent pipe and drain onto your roof while not doing anything about the clog. If you can be sure it is a direct shot from the bladder to the clog then they typically work great.

    A lot of negative comments here, but as someone who once was a service plumber, these are great tools, but as with every tool, you have to use the right tool for the right job. You wouldn't use a hammer on a screw, it's the same idea here.
    These work a treat on a frozen sewer if you can get a hose from a hot water source to an outside cleanout.
    For everyone saying concerned about breaking sewer pipes, unless there is something structurally wrong already, sewer pipes should be able to withstand upwards of 100psi, and most houses have less than 75psi on the water.

      Obviously not all sewer pipes are made equal, but SCH40 is rated for over 100psi. A cast iron sewer that was made correctly, and is not on the brink of rusting out should be able to withstand that as well. Orangeburge, clay, or SDR pipe, maybe not, but again, that's when you have to know when to use the right tool for the job.

    Hi, plumber here. We definitely DO NOT use them in P-Traps, as it could blow out the joints on the trap. The ABS plastic used for P-Traps is much flimsier than the ABS plastic that is used for direct drain lines from fixtures out to the mainline. However, if you take the P-Trap off first, you can achieve the solution you're looking for without flooding out the area you're working in. Typically though, this type of drain clearing only works for soft clogs. As anything more serious will have to either be snaked, or even hydro jetted. (P.S. If the clog is in the P-Trap, just disconnect it and clean it out. Much more hassle free and you'll even learn the ins and outs of basic trap assemblys.)

      I was coming here to say the same thing.
      ABS is not suitable for these. Plus, there’s always a chance that you send the problem deeper down the pipe and make it worse.
      Personally I would always opt for a mechanical solution (most clogs tend to be within the first 6 to 12 feet) if it’s an interior pipe soft blockage issue and not an issue with the pipe itself (collapse from an old pipe or possible issue with galvanized pipe)
      I’ve used these in the past as well. To me these are more of a Hail Mary, when you don’t have something better to use

    Dude I am definitely putting that on the list of things I need around the house! Aside from indoor plumbing, I could also use it for my dogs swimming pool! I bought a 70 gallon watering trough for livestock animals at tractor supply, used some siding to create a deck around it, as well as a little three step staircase, and I made a whole in the trough and use some insulation and clamps to attach a section of water hose as a drainage hose, and then on the end of that hose I attached a valve with a knob that you can turn to release water for when it's time to drain the nasty water out of the pool.
    Anyway, sometimes things get stuck inside of the drainage hole on the inside of the pool / the water side of things, and what I started doing was getting my air hose and blowing air through that line...
    But now I can use this bladder adapter, and instead of waiting for the 30 gallon air tank to fill up, unrolling the air hose, having a roll it back up, etc. I'll just do this and perform the same task with less fiddle-fuck work lol

      @@harrydavey9884 it's a state level licensing of a skills trade. Each state has their own requirements of what qualifies for "Master" level. Usually the levels go Master, Journey, apprentice. A master plumber out here in Washington has a PL-01 plumbing card which can only be obtained by documented years of experience and state testing of plumbing principles and code. Same goes for electricians out here.
      In Florida Master level required a certain level of funds wrapped up in insurance bonding. In Florida Master level is usually needed to run a plumbing business.

    I work as a drain cleaner. When my customers use these, they usually either blow the p-trap off, or they end up filling the vent in the wall with water. When that happens, the water will run off of the roof, and when you release pressure on the line, 10'+ of water comes back at you. You're best off with a 15' hand snake, or a small plunger that you can "jostle" the clog back and forth with. These flush bags are very useful for septic systems with outside cleanouts, or if you drop it from your roof vent past the T on your sink.

    90% of these sink clogs are in the p-trap. Get a container that fits under the trap. I use a Tupperware container that's 5in wide, 12in long and 4in deep. Fits under almost any trap. Losen the fitting on either end of the curved section of your trap. Don't fully loosen that nut if there's still water in your sink. To avoid making a big mess just let the water slowly dribble out of that connection. You can tighten it back up to stop the water if your container gets too full. Then remove it fully once it's drained, and do the same for where that pipe goes into the wall. Do any snaking you have to do through the pipe that's coming out of the back of the cabinet there.
    I wouldn't recommend using one of those bladder style jetting nozzles at all. You have a good chance of blowing up a pipe in your wall if you have coper or cast iron pipes and there happens to be a thin or corroded section. And that pressure will find a weak PVC joint real quick.
    If the clog is beyond using a small consumer rodding snake, let a professional handle it. Don't go out and rent a large machine from home Depot and run the risk of killing yourself because someone had a brain fart and flushed a hand towel.
    And to any home owners out there. Don't buy the snakes that are a flat ribbon. They're trash. Get one that has a spiral cable that you can turn by hand.
    A little tip for diagnosing a mainline clog vs a drain clog.
    If your toilet backs up but your sink and shower/tub drain fine, the clog is just in the toilet or just past the flange(the part of the main drain line that your toilet attached to) Just use a plunger or a tool called a toilet auger.
    If
    your sink or tub/shower are backed up but the toilet still works fine, the clog is between them and the toilet, use a snake and you'll be fine.
    If the sink or shower/tub are backing up and so is the toilet, you have a main line clog. This requires a main line rodding machine. Those are very dangerous (for you and your plumbing) to use if you don't know what you're doing. Even the small 1/4 inch powered rodding machines can be dangerous.
    Had a guy die at the last company I worked at because the 3/4in cable wrapped around his neck while he was using the auto feed in a tight crawlspace. The customer said she heard an "augh" and thumping. She thought he was working. He was a good guy.
    Let the professionals handle jobs that you can't do with your hand rodder. No reason to get killed covered in shit because you don't know what you're doing.

    My first time experimenting with one of these and i did not read the precautions or instructions first, I remember trying to cram it into the cleanout on the side of a commercial building that had mad water pressure. I wasn't able to insert more than a few iches if it into the pipe directly behind the threaded clean out cover cap before giving it one hell of a blast of water. The portion of the tool that would not fit into the clean out hole began expanding and vibrating like crazy! I was amazed that rubber could stretch so much....
    I shut down water pressure and let it deflate before pullink it out of the clean out pipe and inspected it, Amazed with its construction and convinced that if I applied just a bit more water pressure it would surely clear the blockage and I could pack up my tools and bill the customer for a successfull drain cleanout. This time after inserting it as far as it was going to go into the line, I really gave it a powerful blast of water and felt confident my thick commercial grade Rubbermaid 100 fot hose would withstand the 200 PSI water pressure this building had. And then out of nowhere Im hearing a "BBOOMM" and I am knocked back from the explosion of the drain tool! I had gotten carried away from reality and allowed the half of the tool that hadn't fit into the clean out pipe to dangerously expand literally to the size of an official NFL football! Apparently, as the tool expanded, the sharp edge of the threaded pipe became like a knife blade that sliced into the black rubber and violently exploded in my face! Besides my ego, the only harm i suffered was when the black rubber portion of the tool exploded, part of it flew back towards me and smacked into my forefinger hard enough to cause that hand to go numb instantly. There was a lot of pain going on but with my senses heightened from what just occured I couldnt really say i was in pain . The explosion was fucking unreal and probably sounded more like a bomb! That numbness finally went away a few days later.

    These things are awesome at cleaning clogs in the main line to the sewer. I used to have to call Roto-Rooter to snake the drain at a few hundred dollars a pop. Now I just attach one of these bladders to a semi-stiff garden hose and push it down the clean out port (the same place Roto-Rooter feeds the snake down) until it stops going any further. You may have to wiggle the hose around a little to get it past any bends as you cram it down your sewer line. Once it won't go any further, go to the faucet and slowly turn on the water. The bladder will inflate inside the sewer line and seal against the walls of the pipe so that the water coming out of the bladder will all be pushed against the blockage. I usually go over to the clean out port and tug on the hose to make sure it has sealed properly. You shouldn't be able to pull it out. If it comes out, the bladder is either broken or you don't have the right size bladder for your pipe. Get a larger one. Once you know it is sealed inside the pipe, let the water run for a while, like maybe a minute. Turn the faucet off and then start retracting the garden hose. You should immediately see the backed up water in the clogged line start to drain down the line. Pull the hose all the way out of the clean out port and you are done. It takes me about 2 or 3 minutes to do the whole process and I've done it many, many times over the past several years.

    As a plumber, we call that a blow out ball. I would never use that in the lavatory or kitchen sink as it can demolish the P-Trap under them since it’s usually made out of very thin plastic. I’ve Used it in the drain arm for the kitchen after clearing the blockage so it can clean around the pipe and flush out the drain. On Amazon I found someone selling these but without the open end, and a schrader valve instead of a hose fitting, plus a 3ft strap to pull it back out. It’s nice for blocking a drain if you need to. I needed to fix a leak on the plumbing for my pool, but there wasn’t a valve to stop the water from draining out of the pool, and there’s a second line from the bottom drain that connects about a foot down from the skimmer, so a standard drain plug wouldn’t work. I bought an air hose extension that I was able to screw on, so I was able to drop it down far enough.

    Plumbers don't use that trash for a reason. Several actually.
    First, it will only work on a clog that is literally right there. For which a simple needle nose can pull out. It will not work on a clog past the P-trap, where 90% of them are.
    Secondly, you are sending the hair & sludge further down the line instead of pulling out. And you're likely piling it on top of another section of pipe, usually an elbow or tee, that has a clog developing and this will simply accelerate a worse clog.
    Another reason is the condition of the pipe and compression nuts. If it breaks you're gonna spill not only the dirty water from the clog, but now you have an open hose running in the house. You're not going to stop it fast enough and you will get all sorts of things soaked.
    I could probably go on with scenarios but these are the likely results.
    What's tripping me out is people in the comments saying they used to be plumbers and that it's a good tool. But they all seem to be east coast because we don't even consider pvc for sewer drains in the west.
    You east coasters crack me up bro.

    My 2 cents from my expierence in my home. My clogs were caused by a poorly functioning garbage disposal. After it was replaced with a high end one, no more problems wirh plugged drains. My clogs were several feet from my drain too. No pressure would had cleared it. After installing a clean out, I was able to clean out the blockage. My snake could not reach my blockage. This job is not one of my favorites. A new high end garbage disposal solved my blockage issues.

  • @quinngallagher5359
    @quinngallagher5359 День назад

    *note* YOUR hose has 60psi.
    If you do not have a prv installed on your water main (honestly, even if you do), you should definitely check your water pressure at the hose bib BEFORE attempting this. I've roughed in brand new homes that had 175psi coming to them. If you use the device in this video as shown with 175psi you will blow your p-trap apart.
    At least in my area, we are only required to test our waste systems with 10ft of head pressure. That equals 4.33psi. Most air tests are done with 5psi. The pipe itself depending on material can withstand much higher psi. HOWEVER, the glue joints may not. Just because nothing leaks under test or normal use, does not mean all the joints are "good" (straight cuts, fully seated in the fitting, etc.). A poor joint + solid blockage + high pressure = big problems.

  • @angelvillagrana2187

    These will work on minor blockages. If you use these be sure to have a vacuum breaker or a check valve before the hose. Cross contamination is a possibility to your main water supply in the event of a vacuum creating backflow

    High pressure water is great when the shit clogging your pipes is or gets stuck, and the pressure forces the pipes apart somewhere inside your walls or floors. Good times, especially when the water does not appear right away giving you days, weeks, months or even years of leakage before you discover it. Or, when you have ppl living under you, damaging their home.
    I recommend cleaning your water lock from the outlet by pulling things out with a hard metal string, or by opening the water lock and emptying it. You could use special substances dissolving organic materials, like hair and shit, I do this from time to time/regularly on the bathrooms. This also helps if the pipes are clogged further down. And, if this does not help, you don't use pressure, but a special head on the tip of a hose that has a forward pointing turbo nozzle that "digs out" the shit clogging the pipe and three or four nozzles pointing backwards, pushing the hose into the pipe without creating high pressure. This is best done from the downward side as it filles the pipe with water, but it could still be used from the upward side if you manage to clear it fast.

  • @WVgrl59
    @WVgrl59 12 дней назад

    Those are wonderful and work really well. But if you just don't put anything down your drains and once a month for boiling water down each drain, then you won't have to ever use that bladder again.
    I always took my drain apart and put the bladder into the end of the drain that's clogged.... not into the sink from above because I have a double sink.
    😊

  • @bowl816
    @bowl816 5 дней назад

    See the p-trap start to separate? 60 psi does that. Under a sink is meant to drain, not stand up to pressure like that.
