    I have a Paiste 20" Dark Energy Mark II, and I feel no need for any other ride, maybe the only "downside" is that it's so articulate that you can hear every little mistake :D Washier rides are more forgiving.

    I think the Dark energy mark 1 ride is the best all-around ride and the second is the coloursound 900, the crashes depends more for the genre you play cause you need a brighter cymbal if the genre is metal or extreme metal cause the volumes in these genres are very high so one low volume cymbal will be lost in the mix so some cymbals depended exactly from the genre you play and from your personal likes!!

  • @broeheemed32
    @broeheemed32 6 месяцев назад +1

    I don't favor using a crash as a ride, mostly because I don't want the overly-loud "wash". I want that "ping" and a really clear, separated bell. The one exception I've made is for the 2002 Big Beat "multi" 22"..... I made the compromise because I only use 3 cymbals.

    This is like choosing your favorite food from a giant menu. There is no single best type of cymbal for everyone. I even have a variety of cymbals (with matching sticks and brushes) for each type of venue I play, depending on style of music, large or small venue, acoustic or electric. This still makes for a nice conversation, though. Good video!

    Those Master's Darks sound great in this video. Some of these are awful though. The Colorsound made me throw up in my mouth, a little. PST7? Sounds like a little kids toy cymbal. That Extra Dry? Donk! Not a fan. But I would gladly take a set of those Master's Darks.

    the best type of cymbal: always the one´s that I am banging at the moment.. we can probably agree to the fact that I am poor and my current setup probably would be better at a shooting range for indicating hits but... K-coustom 20" zildijan ride. A Custom 17 "18" crashes , 14 "paiste 101 (blue lable) hats , 14" sabian AA mini china, 18" 2002 paiste china, a smackstack of some sort.. and a 80" paiste symphonic gong would be my ultimate kit.

    These are all excellent Cymbals regardless of budget. Even the PS-7's sound good. My favorite, the Dark Energy Mark 1 (I'm biased, I have the 20" & 22" in it). Think I need to get a Mark II now (Keep feeding my G.A.S 🤕)

  • @MarkArness
    @MarkArness 6 месяцев назад

    As someone who can only spend so much on gear, these comparisons can sure make lower range cymbals sound shitty. I have a set of PST7s (medium) and they do fine for the little I play, but $190 PST7 20" light ride is obviously going to sound even worse when compared to a $725 22" 602.
    Still appreciated the comparison.

    I used to love Paiste Cymbals back then when I had my old 502 kit. Now I think they sound "weird" just to say a word. PST7 doesn't have definition and the "note" it produces it's way to high for me, even like a 14" crash, close with the 900 which looks beautiful but it doesn't sound so musical as the others. I'd say overall Paiste has awesome brilliant cymbals, but for darker or dry sounds Meinl or Zildjians K win. (of course it's not a competition and my opinion is just that, my own taste). Great video!

    Dry is seldom my choice. I like dark rides based on what I hear while I'm playing but they don't carry well, so I tend toward brighter rides when playing rock and pop. 22" 2002 is frequently my choice, but I love the 22" Signature Traditional and I have a couple of Sabians I like; the David Garbaldi Soul Side Ride and a XRS that has 3 rivets. Nice video, thanks

    • @xIcarus227

      Honestly with today's mics and mixing techniques you can definitely get away with dark and even dry cymbals in loud settings. I encourage you to look at the setup of the drummer from Jinjer, it's pretty loud and fast music yet the cymbals the drummer uses are very dark. Ahab's latest album is also a good example of pretty dry cymbals in a loud and slow paced environment. It works beautifully.
      Basically choose what you like because it'll probably work anyway, and it might give the music more uniqueness.

    The best type, is the kind I have. I always had mid tier cymbals. Most I ever spent is 18 on a Sabina aa which i still have after 18 years. I did just get a pair of 15 sound edge tho. Love em. I used these zildjian zbt hats for twenty years, and I swear I beat those things into sounding good, cuz they do

    I've always been a "sounds good is good" kind of guy so I've never been a brand loyalist. I'll play any make or model that I like. So I've always used a mix. Right now it's Paiste 2002's for bright and Meinl Pure Alloy's for dark. But I do agree with some of the posters here about not being crazy for dry cymbals. Unless it's a china or some other kind of effect cymbal. Those can add a unique flavor to a set up. Meinl Byzance Extra Dry Thin crash comes to mind. Not the kind of thing you maybe want to use a main crash, but can make a hell of an impression with a good smack at the end of a song.
