    The old version of the video had "Evens" instead of "Evans" all over the place. I knew I'd be roasted in the comments for the next 5 years. So I fixed it, re-rendered it, and reuploaded the video.

    Thanks for bringing these to our attention. I was looking to quiet my drums down and my neighbors were wishing death upon to since I'm so loud(they're actually very nice people).
    That being said, it'd be interesting to get some db meter readings and comparison to other kinds of examples(rubber mutes vs standard mesh vs something as simple as filling the kick with pillows).

Haven't seen any of your videos in a while unfortunately . Sometimes it seems the world starts spinning faster LOL . Excellent video, the method of sound dampening is so cool to see, tablas use a similar style of sound dampening by using a small iron mix in a circle on the top of the drum head to help with the sustain on the note

    Justin. Have your tried to use the Evans dB one tom heads for e-drum heads?
    It looks as though the snare head would have difficulty with triggering, however the toms might work well with shell mounted triggers such as Helensson triggers.

  • @RorRiiZzLE

    You should try a Db One tom head on the snare. The extra padding could help add some extra weight.

  • @kt-nf2jx
    @kt-nf2jx 2 года назад +5

    They look and sound really nice for their purpose, however I am very hesitant to put them on a high end kit, as I am afraid that they might damage the bearing edges of the shells if used for a long period of time (they could possibly sand them down). If the toms and bass drum heads had the outer mylar ring underneath the mesh ply, similarly to the snare head (but without the stripes) I wouldn't hesitate at all. Also, they should offer an 8" version as well.

    Hi... It's very refreshing to see research and improvements on this low volume area. I am really sorry for my younger drummer self not having this products 10 years ago, that could had made my drumming life less miserable trying to find where to practice at the full drum volume. The tone difference in the Toms is very noticeable. The only thing that kind of worries me is the underneath foam pealing off over time. I wonder what kind of behavior the mesh will have or if it will be more fragile on hat area where the foam was.

    • @65Drums
      @65Drums  2 года назад +1

      Yeah that's the downside of a first year review. I don't know if the foam will stay on for 5 years of play. But I assume you can just glue it back on later if it becomes a problem

    • @ryangorman3061
      @ryangorman3061 2 года назад +1

      The underneath foam is extremely durable and held in place well. Peeling will not be an issue. The heads will wear from play before those materials fail.

  • @Drummer55

    I love the heads except for the snare head. I'm not a heavy player, yet after about a month of daily use, the snare head had strands of the mylar break-away and dangle inside the drum. Sweetwater replaced it. There's no way to turn off the snare if you want to. As an experiment, I put the 14" tom head (ordered separately) on my snare drum, and it sounds incredible! It's super loud coming through the EAD 10, but that can be adjusted. It's way better than the dB One snare head. The Remo 14" Silent Stroke is better on the snare than the Evans dB One snare head.

    I've had Aborea Mute Cymbals for practicing in my Condo. Not gonna work. Even I'm practicing light jazz swing pattern. The high frequency is killing. I guess my low volume cymbals are having similar properties to these from high-tier brands.
    Thing is the low freq and vibration from hardware stands and kick pedal is to much for a quiet shared-spaces like aprtment or condo. I'm not profesional drummer. So when I'm back from my work, everyone come home too. Now I'm renting cheapest possible practice room instead.

    Hey Justin, couple lazy guy questions. You think they make the kick head in a 16, and where can I get these? I'd love a 12 snare, 4 toms in 8, and a 16. So before I packed up my DW kit, I bought new heads all the way around. 4 racks, 2 floors, and a 20 gong drum. I play Ahead sticks, and wouldn't ya know it, within a couple days, the tip came off one, and I didn't notice for a whole song. I still had the gong drum head, as I didn't hit it. but yeah.... Fast forward 2 years, and my td17. I modified my pdx's, by cutting the worn mesh out, then using a dremel, to cut the rim in have, so I could put my own heads on them, and not have to pay freakin $60 for a dang 8" head smh.. suck Roland! Anyway, replace all my heads..... and I lost the 2nd stick tip, ever in 5 years using those sticks. Because of course I did! Got 1 of my brand new goedrum heads left smh..

    Oh you 'spoiled' modern learning drummers. lol I had to put Maxi-pads on my toms amd cymbals to dampen them in the 70s and 80s. (Still a good trick if you need it.) But this set-up rocks. I prefer the brighter 'cymbalesque' sounds while maintaining the low volume. And that snare head design is brilliant, though if I was using this strictly for triggering I think I would try using another tom and use the tom heads. Or possibly throw a dot under the head and over the slats to keep the aforementioned rubbing down (because it will most likely happen.) Another home run Justin. 🤘🥁

    I really like what they did with the kick and tom heads, but the snare head is not for me. I think I'd rather go with another tom head on the snare so I can have both a snares on and off type sound. I currently use a set of GoEdrum mesh heads on my little 20/10/14/ kit with a 13 snare. I'm curious how the rebound fill compares between the Evans and GoEdrums.
    For a low volume cymbal sound, I think Zildjian still has the best sounding for crashing and stick definition, but very weak bell sound. I might pick up an 18" so I can have two flavors of an 18" crash and ditch the 16" zildjian on my kit.

      @@Derfen81 It's a youtube wide problem with bot accounts. I've banned like 12 of these scammers, but they just make a new account and get back at it. It's happening to lots of channels at the moment

    Does the single-ply mesh head on the snare still have the trampoline effect?

      @RcKDrUmm3R 2 года назад

      I think sadly yes. You need to go 3 ply or drum tec pro 1 ply that is a harder material

      @@ScottMartinD yea the pro is def loud. The 3 ply isn’t too loud honestly. They’re good if you went to sacrifice a little rebound for low volume

      It’s not one account, it’s a dozen different accounts pretending to be me. And every time I report or ban one, they just create a new one. It’s a RUclips wide problem not just in regards to 65 drums. It’s affecting thousands of channels. It’s bots
