The guy singing and playing mandolin was my boss in the shipping and receiving department of a bookstore at the time. The employees were *dying* when Snoop recorded video of himself hearing it for the first time. And he was definitely a fan of Snoop. He has a new band called "Shinyribs" now, for the past several years, and they're fantastic. Check out "Who Built the Moon?" or "The Sacred and the Profane."
the Gin n juice cover blasted the Gourds into the next level of success, to do a bluegrass cover of a big hip hop hit and make it a crossover hit on many levels... still one of their most requested tracks!
@@bramh4149 and just about every other band out there that's even close to being some sort of jam band. I saw it as Blues Traveler a bunch, Dave Matthews, even Hootie and the Blowfish once or twice. I was lucky enough to see them at Bonnaroo 2005. They're definitely good musicians, and I felt a little bad for them, because it was clear that was what the entire crowd wanted to hear. I think they did it for the encore?
Still have the memory card in my phone from a collection of hard drives from the Napster, Bear share, Limewire days. Still play this for folks that ain't heard it.
I’m only 5 seconds in. *BUT* I just wanted to say I specifically searched for a reaction to this song and I’m so glad you did one 😂 the ONLY one. I’m excited!
Nice reaction and channel, dude. I love how people reacting to this vid have no idea what to think the first minute or so, but end up digging it by the end. It's one of my fave covers ever. Best of luck with your channel.
Hahaha. Your reaction to this one was priceless. The reaction of people as they recognize the lyrics is always hilarious. That was me the first time too. I was like" Wait a minute, this is Snoop's Gin & Juice". For extra enjoyment here's one minute of Snoop's actual reaction to hearing this for the first time. ruclips.net/video/asrfBGkGsbo/видео.html
So glad you reacted to this. What's hilarious to me is I don't listen to a lot of rap, but I'm a big fan of Snoop Dogg; then I am also not a big fan of country/blue grass music either. I first heard this song about 15 years ago and immediately put it on my playlist. So great -- it becomes an earworm song that you can't get out of your head 😊.
Been listening to The Gourds since like 2005. Best entertaining lyrics and some serious talent in the band! I've seen them live twice at the tractor tavern in Ballard, WA. They put on a good show and interact with their audience/fans 😁
This is the third reactor that I have watched for this song, and all of them had 22 likes 😂 23 now 😊 There's a cover of No Diggity by Chet Faker, that's another good one.
One of the greatest covers in the history of time.
Dynamite Hack does a cover of Boys in the Hood which is better, but you have to watch the official video to get the full effect

There’s is nothing strange about vibing with this… it’s straight fire 🤘🏼😊
Isn't it the best day in a long time when you first discover The Gourds?
It's always fun when a banjo or ukulele comes to the party...
It's a mandolin, not a ukulele.
taking me back to my NAPSTER days!
When it was labeled as Gin and Juice by Phish lol

Limewire for me, lol
Haha wow! Yes by "Phish"
Good music is good music no matter what genre it is interpreted into.
That's what acid bluegrass is all about.
Says something about Snoop’s version that it translates over so well to a totally different genre.
I love the original Snoop Dog version of course, but this one… you can’t listen to it with laughing & admiring their talents!!!
I’m only 5 seconds in.
